DH obv think I am AIBU but we live in a cottage built in 1856 and the incidents so far:

Hearing footsteps on stairs thinking it's our DCs only to find them fast asleep. Happens a lot!

DCs special 'taggies' (comfort blanket) disappearing for days, only to reappear in really obvious places we have looked at before.

DD's electric toothbrush turning itself on at 3 am in the morning. Bzzzzzz.

A friend convinced she saw a Childs face peering through our bannisters. DCs def in bed at the time.

DD 5yrs old saying 'who is the little boy that came to stay last night?' No little boy was staying!

I dont know. Possibly some could be explained but the toothbrush and footsteps freaks me out! Even DH has heard them, checked kids who are fast asleep and stated 'that's weird'.

Is it a terrace? We live in a similar age house and it often sounds like people are on our stairs but it is actually next doors stairs.

Kayano · 09/11/2011 22:24

Yes. Haunted. Def.

Some woman stopped me in the street awhile ago and told me she used to live in my house and that an old
Woman haunts the room that will be our soon to be DCs nursery!

Even though I have NEVER had a spooky experience here in 5 yeas but now I am totally HmmConfusedBlush

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 22:27

It's semi detached. My DH suggested the tooth brush had a loose connection??!! My feeling is NOT! If it is a ghost it's a cheeky one;)

TeddyRuxpin · 09/11/2011 22:29

I'd be freaked out too.
The house I grew up in was definitely haunted, my mum saw a man several times in her room, the dogs cowered in fear in one of the rooms, on a few occasions things moved of their own accord and there was always the feeling of being 'watched'.
I remember when I moved into my first flat and there was no feeling of being watched any more.

On the other hand, my logical mind tells me that ghosts can't possibly be real!

Purpleroses · 09/11/2011 22:29

Do ghosts have teeth? :)

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 09/11/2011 22:30

I have a ghost and DH SAW it! A man...in our bedroom.

You might have....are you afraid?

Kayano · 09/11/2011 22:31

Purple - young children ghosts must have teeth and have been obviously
Taught to look after them before peering through banisters and playing with OPs DCs Grin

Julesnobrain · 09/11/2011 22:32

Get a friend with a dog to come over. If dog not happy then..........you have u answer

Primafacie · 09/11/2011 22:33

YABU. Ghosts do not exist.

Trills · 09/11/2011 22:35

YABu - no such thing as ghosts.

needanewname · 09/11/2011 22:35

Try talking to it and asking it to not turn things on in the night.

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 22:36

Hee hee Kayano! Now we have 2 cats one of which sits and stares up at the stairs. Not freaked out just stares. He may just be an odd cat?

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 22:38

What need? Just randomly shout out to a 'ghost?' YABU!! :))) (notes down must shout out to ghost)

worraliberty · 09/11/2011 22:38

YABU

No doubt you'll be inundated with various 'ghostly goings on' now

But really, if you believe in all that twaddle, you'll end up convincing yourself.

CannibalBitsArrrgh · 09/11/2011 22:38

I'm not sure I believe in hauntings but when we were in our old house our eldest DC started wetting the bed at the age of about 5. I asked him why he was wetting at night because he had been dry at nights from the age of 3.

He said that 'the woman' wouldn't let him out of his room to use the toilet so he would get back into bed and pee while he was awake because she would scowl at him and point him back into bed

I'm thinking that it might have been lucid dreams but who knows!

HardCheese · 09/11/2011 22:40

YABU. Ghosts with a sense of humour turn on your vibrator at 3 am.

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 22:43

I wish, Hard Cheese!!!

Seriously. I used to nanny in a house ( I worked Mon 7am - Fri 7pm) and the girl would wake up approx 3 times a week screaming and talking to someone but she never remembered in the morning.

I can't remember how I got into a conversation with my mum about it (probably explaining my exhaustion!) and she suggested that I spoke it it (there were many other ghostly things going on) so I did.

I felt like a complete and utter idiot, but I went upstairs by myself in the day and talked to it. Said that I would come and chat whenever I was upstairs and that I would say good morning and good night but it had to sto[p waking the child up as it was distressing her.

So thats what I did. I never said anything to anyone else about this, and when I wished the child goodnight, I always said an extra good night to thin air.

The night time wakings stopped - seriously, apart from those times I forgot to say good night.

I promise you I a not making this up.

ghostlytale · 09/11/2011 22:49

Yabu, I'd have been able to provide rational, and comforting, explanations for all of that. Smile

Though I'm not sure I believe in ghosts/hauntings, I'm less skeptical than I would have been, having recently posted about a spooky incident I (and my dc) actually witnessed and could provide no logical explanation for, even with suggestions offered forward by mumsnetters.

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 22:49

Wow Need. Sounds scary but obviously effective! You have convinced me..

OP posts:
Neuromantic · 09/11/2011 22:52

you don't have a ghost. YABU.

SolidGoldVampireBat · 09/11/2011 22:54

There's no such thing. There are always natural, rational explanations. Nothing to worry about at all.

worraliberty · 09/11/2011 22:58

It always makes me laugh how new build houses are never haunted...they always have to be really old??

Also, where the fuck to ghosts buy their clothes?

They're never naked, despite leaving their clothes on earth Grin

MindyMacready · 09/11/2011 23:00

Another YABU, ghosts only exist in stories I'm afraid!

SimulationStation · 09/11/2011 23:00

Ghosts buy their clothes at a car spook sale...;)
