To wonder if anyone has bought anything worthwhile in Primark ever?

I used to find the odd gem in Primark; a new wool wastecoat that has lasted for 5 years; a red cocoon coat that I loved but sold on ebay as I needed the cash and some decent basic undies.

I went in there today and there was nothing but one ok fair isle jumper that was £20. I didn't buy as it was a bit tent-like. Is it me or is Primari getting more expensive and worse quality? I also have concerns about their ethics and iot is like shopping in a giant air craft hanger. I would rather spend more for a more pleasant retail experience even though I am skint and in need of decent knit wear.

The sizes seem very small or I'm fatter than I think Grin

but I've bought a few good bits over the years from there ,especially pjs and coats

girls' school tights, not as good as M&S but if you take the price into account then good value.

Otherwise no, not really.

wineoclocktimeyet · 26/10/2011 18:11

Towels - their homewear stuff is lovely quality and great value.

Clothes-wise, not me, although I'm amazed that when I go all I see is a load of tat and yet friends seem to find lovely things

SuckItAndSee · 26/10/2011 18:11

all my primark best buys are 3years + old
the last cardie I bought there went unwearably out of shape after ONE wash
I am now plighting my cheapo knitwear troth to Sainsbo's

chandellina · 26/10/2011 18:12

I have loads of great primark stuff. Cardigans, t shirts, skinny jeans, dresses. Yabu. Their ethics have come up ahead of a lot of the rest of the high street too

StellaAndFries · 26/10/2011 18:12

Undies for my dd's and summer wear as they don't get much of a chance to wear it!

fatlazymummy · 26/10/2011 18:13

Last time I went in there I bought my daughter 3 pairs of fleecy pyjamas, they are lovely. I have bought quite a lot of things from there before.
If you want a jumper for under £20, there are plenty of places you can try. Peacocks and the various Supermarkets come to mind.

toptramp · 26/10/2011 18:14

i saw the ethical part of the webite which might tempt me back in.

Apart from children's pjs and bedsocks, I have never found anything worth buying in the whole shop. I'm not good at sniffing out a bargain though.

purplewerepidj · 26/10/2011 18:17

Pants - they do pants-shaped pants alongside the thongs and shorts styles I hate!

Long-sleeved tshirts in plain colours. Probably not smart enough after a few washes for a top layer, but brilliant for layering and the ones I got in July are really really long Grin

That's about it!

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 26/10/2011 18:17

The control black vests are as good as ones twice the price.

BertieBotts · 26/10/2011 18:18

The children's/baby stuff seems okay. We don't have one in this town but a lot of stuff I got in second hand bundles for DS was Early Days and was really nice - and seemed to have lasted well, considering it was second hand.

practicallyimperfect · 26/10/2011 18:19

I love the long sleeved t shirts! They wash better than any others, have had them for years!

LadyEvilEyes · 26/10/2011 18:19

Their skinny jeans are good, well fitting and cheap.

Malificence · 26/10/2011 18:20

DH has had a few work shirts for £3 and they have washed brilliantly, I've had a few t-shirts and vest tops for £2 each and been pleasantly surprised too, and some very comfy sports socks .

thenightsky · 26/10/2011 18:20

Yes to the amazing control black vests.

Also, pjs for us with long legs.

And their thermal socks last 2 whole winters.

balia · 26/10/2011 18:20

I bought some lovely PJ's for my DS on ebay - turned out to be from Primark. I was very pleasantly surprised.

pigletmania · 26/10/2011 18:21

Yes their kids clothes are really good.

Meglet · 26/10/2011 18:21

Fleecy pj's for me and the kids.

Kids socks / pants and vests.

Non-underwired flesh coloured t-shirt bra's in the sale. I bought 6 of them for £2 each.

I have stopped buying clothes in Primark though, nothing was lasting at all.

HelloShitty · 26/10/2011 18:21

Lost my Primark virginity last week and bought a bathmat which seems pretty good. The clothes looked like minging tat.

StellaAndFries · 26/10/2011 18:22

Oh and my entire gym kit seems to come from primark at the moment, I love the yoga pants for £5 and long line vests for £2.50.

I bought some lovely skirts for work about six years ago and they're still going strong. They were black A-lines with big embroidered flowers in bright colours on them. Look great with knee-high boots and a black jumper.

Also bought a skirt there for a tenner that people always think is from Monsoon. I used to find lovely stuff in there all the time, in the last few years the stuff in my local store is rubbish though. Hardly go in anymore tbh.

squeakyfreakytoy · 26/10/2011 18:23

A mens tshirt, that I really liked.. (so much that I bought 3 of them) and 4 years later they still looks as good as new.... pj's are ok.. and one or two other knitwear items have lasted... but the majority of stuff shrinks or falls apart at the seams because it is so poorly made.
