to not believe she has no face

Listening to the "travellers" who are being evicted at long last and one of them said her sister has been beaten so badly by the police that she " now has no face left".
Another said the police set fire to a caravan.
These sound rational trustworthy people not prone to exaggeration.

It might be a turn of phrase ie "she was beautiful, but now she has no face left" or she might just mean she's covered in bruises so you can't see her face.

"These sound rational trustworthy people" so they were all saying it or just one girl? You can't jusge them all on a couple of comments

cakeoclock · 19/10/2011 09:53

Oh and YABU

They are the 2 people who had taken it upon themselves to be spokespeople to the media so I assume they were speaking for all of them.

I don't understand
Are you saying the people quoted are rational and trustworthy and thus are speaking the truth or are you insinuating they are not and are lying ?

GypsyMoth · 19/10/2011 10:08

I don't believe the police did those things...... At all!!

Wordsonapage · 19/10/2011 10:08

To lose ones face sounds more like an acid attack rather than a mild drubbing from PC Plod.

I am glad that the travellers are being evicted. But I don't think you can judge a group of people based on 2 probably self appointed spokes people.

I like the riot polices neon tabards.

Does VG denote very good?

it's nice they have the best officers.

rhondajean · 19/10/2011 10:13

You all sound like lovely caring people, and of course the police have never been caught being heavy handed in recent times.

That was also sarcasm, just to make it clear to you.

I work with travellers and this is the phrase they use to say someone has been assaulted facially.

It's a cultural thing.

YABU.

FunnyHaHaPeculiar · 19/10/2011 10:24

ok, genuine question. One says she is english, was born here and lived here all her life (she sounds in her 40s). Why does she have such a strong Irish accent then? Surely if she has integrated into the community, gone to school, worked here (cough), then her accent would be Essex

FrightNight · 19/10/2011 10:24

I heard the quoute on the radion news and pmsl.

I also liked the tabards. V snazzy.

gallicgirl · 19/10/2011 10:31

@Funny - because they don't do all of those things. It's essentially a closed community. At the moment at the local primary school only 3 children aren't from Dale Farm. Irish is the only accent many of them hear.

Arachnophobic · 19/10/2011 10:31

It is a very funny thread title however. Full marks OP Grin

Arachnophobic · 19/10/2011 10:32

I have an image of a headless traveller walking around Dale Farm......[hgrin]

GypsyMoth · 19/10/2011 10:39

Ohhhhh and it was a PROTESTER ( essay dodging student) who threw a FIREWORK at the police!

That will be the travellers saying 'police set fire to them'..... Cos the police dodged it the traveller copped it!

VivaLeBeaver · 19/10/2011 10:40

Definitely a turn of phrase about ot having a face left.

We have travellers who live near us and they have the same Irish type accents. However a friend of mine who is Irish was horrified when I mentioned about them having Irish accents. She states that it is not an Irish accent and completely different. Sounds the same to me but I accept what she says.

I think they need to abide by the law. A traveller said this morning that they would have left quietly if the police had asked nicely..

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 19/10/2011 11:56

Are you lot enjoying what is going on at Dale farm?

moogster1a · 19/10/2011 11:58

I'm enjoying it!!

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 19/10/2011 11:58

It's been going on years. The police aren't the ones making them homeless so why should they say please? So they ask everyone to stop rioting nicely, with please first?

Police intelligence suggest a lot of stockpiled inflammables. Why would they start a fire with that knowledge?
