to ask if you do this with spaghetti?

My dp insists on chopping up his spaghetti before he eats it because he can't twirl it. It really used to bug the hell out of me and i'd have to say something, (probably because when i was younger id've given anything to be allowed to twirl my spaghetti instead of my mum chopping it up). But now I just glare silently at his plate.

Does anyone else do this or know anyone that does it? Is it a really common thing to do? Excluding young children who haven't got the hang of twirling yet.

But the twirling is the best bit!!!

Your DP is weird!

milkshakejake · 26/08/2011 12:37

why can't he twirl it? Is it really that amazing a skill?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 26/08/2011 12:38

I chop it up, I'm a messy eater Blush

SecretNutellaFix · 26/08/2011 12:38

How can he not twirl spaghetti? you stick the fork in, turn it around a few times and then left to your mouth!

GirlWithALlamaTattoo · 26/08/2011 12:38

My ex used to cut it up. It made my blood boil!

Sn0wflake · 26/08/2011 12:38

I like it long....but I gently suggest that it is OK that your DP does it the other way. I have met others who can't do the twirling.

Meglet · 26/08/2011 12:38

I don't chop mine up.

sausagesandmarmelade · 26/08/2011 12:38

Get him to try twirling it against a spoon........

YusMilady · 26/08/2011 12:39

Give him hoops. Keep the good stuff for yourself.

Xiaoxiong · 26/08/2011 12:39

My friend does this. I always silently wonder why she bothers with spaghetti at all and didn't just go for penne, fusilli, rigatoni or any other pasta shape that ends up being the same length and size as her butchered spaghetti.

Maybe you should suggest he twirl against a spoon - that makes it neater.

Sn0wflake · 26/08/2011 12:39

Oh do excuse me I should have said 'dump him - the bastard'.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/08/2011 12:40

Whatever works best and is less messy for the person in question I think.

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 26/08/2011 12:40

I have no idea why he can't twirl. He probably just can't be bothered.
empusa i keep telling him twirling is the best bit but he just won't have it!

My DH chops up all the spaghetti, really noisily. It really grates on my nerves and I always say the same thing "must you make so much noise with that, why can't you just eat it like normal people ?"

sausagesandmarmelade · 26/08/2011 12:42

I have to LOL at this thread........

He sounds like a right baby! Grin

Ephiny · 26/08/2011 12:42

I've never seen anyone do this Confused. I would think gathering up all the little bits with your fork would be more difficult and fiddly than just twirling it anyway...

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 26/08/2011 12:44

I always chop because I find I get too big a mouthful if I twirl. DH also chops so no teeth on edge here!

Kowalski · 26/08/2011 12:45

Get him to try this!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 26/08/2011 12:45

My son - who is dyspraxic ffs - can twirl his spaghetti and has done so for years.

As has been suggested already, the only answer now is to leave him.

We're here to support you.

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 26/08/2011 12:46

He always scrapes the knife and fork across the plate aswell, it's as bad as fingernails down a blackboard!

sausages, sometimes I wonder. . . .

By the way, I can twirl it, I just dont... Grin

ZacharyQuack · 26/08/2011 12:47

Twirl n slurp

sausagesandmarmelade · 26/08/2011 12:49

Melly - Now here I am right with you!!!!

DH is also a bit heavy handed when cutting....and often stabs at his food downwards with his fork which makes an awful grating sound....

He blames the plates being microwaved...but no way is this the case, as it happens with cold plates too. It's excrutiating!!!!!!!!!

sausagesandmarmelade · 26/08/2011 12:51

He's got spiralli for lunch....so am hoping for no squeaking this lunchtime!!!!! Smile

AliGrylls · 26/08/2011 12:51

My mum used to do it when we were kids. As a result I then thought that this was what was meant to be done and carried on doing it until my mid-twenties. It took two people to teach me how to twirl.
