AIBU?

to ask if you do this with spaghetti?

My dp insists on chopping up his spaghetti before he eats it because he can't twirl it. It really used to bug the hell out of me and i'd have to say something, (probably because when i was younger id've given anything to be allowed to twirl my spaghetti instead of my mum chopping it up). But now I just glare silently at his plate.

Does anyone else do this or know anyone that does it? Is it a really common thing to do? Excluding young children who haven't got the hang of twirling yet.

My DH uses scissors to cut his up Hmm

It doesn't bug me though, I think it's kinda cute Blush

I chop up spaghetti, when we have it (usually buy other pasta) because DP looks like he's trying to eat the whole bowlful at once if I don't Grin

Its not a very attractive sight Wink

My Dad taught me to twirl. I had to teach DH - his father cuts it up - drives me batty!

oh, hello, I wasn't aware that h (separated) had started seeing someone else..

no? well there must be 2 cutters and squeakers out there at least... grrrrrrr

when he visits, he is given the plastic forks from the picnic set. it is better for the children to eat in peace.

He would be hounded out of Italy for treating his spaghetti this way!

Can't you buy him Alphabetti Spaghetti? He can spell out rude words during dinner.

I chop it up too. Wasn't aware that this was a sin of the highest order Hmm

I did it in Italy too, and with my XP who was Italian and in front of his mother. No-one ever seemed to mind (and by God they found plenty of other stuff to criticise me for!)

My dp cuts his spaghetti up too, I thought he was a lone oddity but obviously not, lol!

If that is all he can't do, you are a lucky woman.

I twirl spaghetti with bolognaise and when it's packet noodles, but chop up tinned spaghetti. This is because I am a lunatic eat tinned spaghetti with specific quantities of other things, like three waffles and five vegetable fingers, or two veggie burgers, or so on, and I have to have exactly the right quantities of each in each mouthful otherwise...well, it bothers me really far too much.

Seriously, I never eat waffles in quantities other than three. But I think this method is marginally better than when I was a kid when I would only ever combine potatoes and meat (when I ate meat) and would eat everything else separately, like all the peas in one go.

He can't use the washing machine either even though I've explained a thousand times, he can't shove his clothes through the slit in the laundry bin, he can't take things upstairs which are sat in the middle of the step blatantly waiting to go up, he just steps over them Hmm, he can't do a poo in less than 30 minutes. There's quite a lot he can't do really.

See, I saw the title and thought you were going to talk about throwing it at the wall to see if it was cooked. Dunno why really.
Anyway. I twirl.

I snap it in half before I cook it, so you still get some of the twirl but it's a bit more manageable, problem solved.

My mum used to cut my spaghetti up too as she couldn't stand the mess made by twirling. Oh the thrill when I grew up and was able to twirl away in peace Grin.

Crisp sandwiches are another guilty pleasure mum would have disapproved of.

When I got my own flat I lived on them and twirly spaghetti and drank noisily through a straw.

I chop. I make enough mess eating dinner while reclining and MNing as it is. I do use a knife though. It's quite easy really and takes seconds.

My DH is getting better at taking things which are on the stairs because they need to go upstairs, upstairs and has thoroughly mastered checking the lavatory bowl for skids

Twirling the spaghetti is all part of the fun. DS aged 2 loves to suck his spaghetti up like a drink through a straw, with sauce flying all over the place (it has to wiped off the walls afterwards!).

DH couldn't twirl his spaghetti when we first got together. He used to insist on eating it with a knife and fork, cutting the spaghetti into little pieces. It was quite funny watching him trying to load it onto the back of the fork, and seeing it all slide off again, but he's got the hang of it now (only took 8 years :o).

My FIL snaps it before cooking so it is too short to twirl. Drives me crackers.

I chop it up too, I don't have the patience for twirling and I inevitably end up flicking myself with sauce!

Perhaps he feels the length of the spaghetti is mocking him.

I quite possibly have my priorities wrong, but spaghetti twirling would be on my list of pass/fail for continuation of relationship :o
