To think my mil has blatantly lied to me?

Got a parcel today from my mil. Inside were two camisole tops. I looked at the labels which said, F+F and Cherokee.

I phoned her to thank her and asked her where she got them from. She said Debenhams.

I googled F+F and Cherokee and they are Tesco brands.

I sniffed them and they smelt distinctly like charity shop clothes. I buy a lot of clothes from charity shops so i know the smell iyswim.

Why did she lie? Aibu to be a bit pissed off that she lied? She knows I buy things from charity shops and would never have a problem with it.

Hmph.

Why would you phone her up and ask where she got them? Why not just say thanks.

hocuspontas · 25/08/2011 17:35

She was getting confused with you and her other dil. The one who she gives the Debenhams stuff to. Wink

Loonytoonie · 25/08/2011 17:37

I think you're being a tiny bit U OP. I'd be chuffed that someone thought enough of me to buy me something (wherever it was from) and then take the effort to package them up and get to the Post Office, then pay for them to be sent. Let it go, give the tops a wash and be pleased you have had a present!

AnotherJaffaCake · 25/08/2011 17:37

Does it matter where she got them from? If you like the clothes, keep them. If you don't, give them to a charity shop.

PotatoesOfTheCarribean · 25/08/2011 17:37

Why does it even matter ?

Piggyleroux · 25/08/2011 17:37

I make you right hocuspontas Grin

YANBU to think she has lied.

YABU to care.

Tee2072 · 25/08/2011 17:38

She lied because she knew you would google and come on MN to complain about the nice gift she gave you.

kelly2000 · 25/08/2011 17:38

Does it matter? maybe she was a bit embarressed. If you have an otherwise good relationship with her I would not worry, unless she goes on about how expensive they were or something.

Piggyleroux · 25/08/2011 17:38

But it's the fact that she lied to me. She obviously thinks I'm totally thick.

OP posts:
Piggyleroux · 25/08/2011 17:39

Actually i do care about being lied to.

hocuspontas :o

pictish · 25/08/2011 17:41

Why Piggy?

magicmelons · 25/08/2011 17:41

I doubt she thinks your thick at all i'd say she was just a bit embarrassed about where she got them from. My MIL once gave me a dead ladies clothes and lied but caved to dh at a later date.

GalaxyGuzzler · 25/08/2011 17:44

gosh, how ungrateful! who cares where they came from?
People do lie i'm afraidthats life, buts its hardly the sort of lie that causes harm is it?

smelli · 25/08/2011 18:01

You embarrassed her, so she lied. A little hiccup in what should have been a nice exchange. Let it go, it doesn't matter.

MissMap · 25/08/2011 18:03

My MiL confuses shop names could she have done this?

BrandyAlexander · 25/08/2011 18:22

Doesn't really matter does it? Never heard anyone complaining about the smell of Tesco clothes. Don't shop there but assume they smell the same as Asdas and Sainsburys. But really, doesn't matter. You may be the dil who gets the cheap stuff but she's still being generous.

HappyMummyOfOne · 25/08/2011 18:30

Perhaps she didnt tell you the truth as knew you would be snobby about where they came from.

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 18:34

Good Lord. How horrid is this OP.

Blueberties · 25/08/2011 18:34

Does it not occur to you that she wanted to buy you a present and would be covered by embarrassment and shame and not being able to buy you something new?

Jeez. You are disgusting.

scrambedeggs · 25/08/2011 18:36

jesus H christ

now MIL is getting slagged off for buying a nice present

LOL you couldnt make it up

If my sons bring home anyone like you OP, i will kick their arses so hard :)

seeker · 25/08/2011 18:37

Why did you ask her where she got them? A very odd question!

Katisha · 25/08/2011 18:37

Gosh you had to google F&F to find it was Tesco?

You must live on a different clothing planet...
