To emigrate here from Netmums?

I'm running over here after a great many disappointing years on Netmums.

It's an over-moderated, under-imaginative and purile site where threads are deleted left right and centre because the OP (Or some other busybody) goes crying to the mods to have it removed.

Debate is definately NOT encouraged.

You must tow the line and accept a very rigid general view of parenting to be a Netmum. If I felt any more restricted I'd be in a straight jacket!

And excuse the FUCK out of me for needing to swear every now and then.

Oh yeah, feeling much better now!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl Meet=ups sound very cool! It is definately my turn for a booze-a-thon. How do I find out about the meet-ups when they're on? Is there a board for it?

Too late with Dragon butter. My poor, poor morning brain. I must pay you all back with Blue Waffle. (NOT when the your tiny ones are around!)

mamadivazback · 19/08/2011 07:26

Blue Waffle - ah yes the blue died minge... lovely :o one man one jar is far FAR worse...

Asmodeus - the meet ups will generally be around on the board at some point but there is a bit in topics.

I should also add I am a hun... of the Gers variety :o

hairfullofsnakes · 19/08/2011 08:34

I like sci-fi geeks! I'm a Trekkie all the way!

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 19/08/2011 08:45

Asmodeus Welcome. Smile

We need more Scots on here to join in with:

"But our schools have been back for three weeks!"
(In a couple of weeks, when them down south are grumbling about the school run starting again.)
"Shut up about the heat! It's freezing here!"
(Any time they moan about it being too hot and sunny.)

I emigrated about 6 months ago, I still use the local boards on NM but haven't looked at the chat for months.

I like to think a nearly 25 30 year old is able to make her own decisions on whether I need to fucking swear or not, not some jumped up dicatator moderator.

Only just starting to dip my toe into posting and definately not brave enough to start my own posts yet but seeing as MN makes me laugh out loud and NM makes me bang my head on the table repeatedly I think Im in the right place!

purplepidjin · 19/08/2011 09:21

Asmodeus is a King of Demons...

Sounds like you'll fit right in to the nest of vipers Wink

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 19/08/2011 10:06

The meetups are great fun, Asmodeus. If you keep an eye out in the Mumsnet Stuff section of the talk board, you'll find the Glasgow meet ups posted there. Iirc, the suggestion was that we go to a tapas place, just of Byres Road - though I may be imagining that - my morning brain has not yet been blasted into action by sufficient caffeine.

Butyoucant - you definitely only look 25 to me!!

QuintessentialShadow · 19/08/2011 10:09

Dont listen to them.

Of course you can hug.

You just have to call them un-mumsnettly hugs.

I defected about 6 months ago. I just happened to find NMs first when I was pg with DS and (wrongly) assumed they were much the same thing (judean people's front / people's front of judea).
I lurked there, wondering when motherhood might start to affect my literacy and rational thought. I only posted once to correct some ill informed and bigoted drugs advice I saw posted there.
Then one day whilst pg with DD I chanced upon MN. What a fucking change! I bloody love it here. Sane advice, strong debate, witty banter and no fucking text speak (which just serves to confuse and make me feel out of the ark). No hunning and no sodding tickers. Joy!

Sorry, it seems that posting on my phone always results in double posts.

MigratingCoconuts · 19/08/2011 10:34

sci-fi ref....

in my humble opinion, The new Battlestar galactica was the best modern tv series made. I never made it through Babylon 5, much to my regret!

mumwithdice · 19/08/2011 10:36

Asmodeus, MN needs more she-geeks like us! Welcome!

Anniegetyourgun · 19/08/2011 10:40

But you referred to your DH as "Hubs".

I don't think we should let you in yet, you have more to learn.

MyRealName · 19/08/2011 10:41

I just looked over the fence... The grass was not greener. I'm staying here.

EricNorthmansMistressOfPotions · 19/08/2011 10:41

Welcome Asmodean (I know it's not your name but that's how I read it, any other fantasy geeks read it that way?)

Oh yes - don't call him 'the hubs'. Just no. DH, H, Twatface, all fine. Hubs, hubster, hubby, other half, all baaaaaaaad

PrettyCandles · 19/08/2011 10:53

With a name like Asmodeus you definitely belong over here!

And you can be as conventional as you like, clean mouthed, missionary style, and naice - as long as you are prepared to stand up for your right to be whatever you want to be, and respect other people's right to be what they want to be.

IQuiteLikeVodka · 19/08/2011 10:56

And drink! Wine Wine Wine

Asmodeus · 19/08/2011 11:26

hairfullofsnakes TNG was the first sci-fi I fell in love with. It's nice to see that there are a few sci-fi fans here! Battlestar Gallactica rocked the socks but Stargate is my ultimate. I like Farscape, Sliders etc too.

OK, so Hubs is bad. I knew DH was DEFINATELY bad though. Give me points for that ;)

There does seem to be a lot of wine floating around this thread. It's putting me in the mood for the bottle of Jack I've been eyeing up all week! I might have to lay into it tonight. Then come here for bum sex!

moogdroog agreed about the difference between here and there. I can feel my synapses startig to fire again!

MigratingCoconuts · 19/08/2011 11:35

you are right about stargate and farscape etc...awesome shows with huge imagination! and DrWho. I am looking forward to its return for part two of the series.

Asmodeus · 19/08/2011 11:52

migratingcocunuts have you been watching this season's Torchwood?! By far the most breath-taking TV I've seen in years. I will never forgive Jack for what he did to his Grandson but the sheer scope of the newstoryline has made me start to love him all over again. It's brutal!!

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 19/08/2011 12:22

Asmodeus, welcome. (Though I was thinking Asmodean, too.) I feel really lucky I found MN before NM, though after this week's anti-disablist censoring hell, I did join all the other MNers on our foray into NM tickerland. I have a lovely ticker now, counting up from the last time I shagged. Great way to circumvent the swear filter. There's even a 'since last time I said Twunty Bollocks' one. Grin

Butyoucant · 19/08/2011 12:35

Can I join the Sci Fi geek club too? I have got TNG on series link on CBS Action as they started from the beginning of series 1. Also spent my maternity leave pre birth working through the Battlestar Galactica box sets .

And Dr Who and Torchwood are the only things I go out of my way to watch.

Ahhh felt good to let the geek out for a minute!
