Okay, I know my name ruffles feathers. MNHQ sent me a (very nice) email back in February asking if I would consider changing it, I have only just seen the email Blush

I said to MNHQ that I might throw it open to a poll. They said probably not a good idea because people who would prefer me to change it might be reluctant to admit it for fear of being called a prude. So here's the deal; you can be honest. If you think I should revert to CupcakesandBunting say so and no-one will call you a prude here. If you'd like my present name to stay say so too. No-one will call you a potty-mouthed numpty. Also, if you couldn't give a crap, you can say so too Wink

Your name doesn't offend me. Unbothered either way to be honest although it is nice to "recognise" you when you post.

Hope the hangovers aren't too bad this morning :)

Motherofalllizards · 16/07/2011 08:32

Whats in a name ?

MigratingCoconuts · 16/07/2011 08:36

I think its funny Grin

youarekidding · 16/07/2011 08:40

Doesn't offend me. At first it was a big 'oh she has cunt in her name'. Now its just you and tbh I hardly notice it.

It seems most people now just see the Bup bit and know its you iyswim?

At least most people shorten it to Bup or buppy not cunt or cunting. Grin

FourThousandHoles · 16/07/2011 08:41

hmmm I am thinking perhaps I should change my name to fourthousandcunts

whaddayareckon?

proudfoot · 16/07/2011 08:42

My opinion as a casual poster is that I absolutely could not give one about it.

It neither offends me nor do I think oh wowww what a cool and subversive name with a swear word Hmm Loads of people have "rude" names don't they?

Do people actually care Confused

BupcakesandCunting · 16/07/2011 08:46

Well obviously people do care as they've reported me for it.

I post here a fair bit and well, you know, would rather not be offending the eyeballs of virtually everyone here. I just thought that if I was offending more people than not I'd get rid. I didn't realise I would cause offence by asking if I'm causing offence!

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 16/07/2011 08:55

I loves yer and yer name, Bupsie.

youarekidding · 16/07/2011 08:56

buppy You've probably offended more people with your honest quick wit than your name. Grin

Just saying.

Seriously do not worry about it - I'm actually really [hshock] people have that much angst over a name - enough to report it. I rarely look at who posted something unless I want to reply to them personally or quote them/ agree with them.

Take AF for example - one quick look and people may get offended. Read her advice though (esp on relationships) and you realise its what people write not what they're called that matters. After all isn't that why we're all here? Confused

FourThousandHoles · 16/07/2011 08:56

I think it's probably a bit like this

Two or three people dislike it enough to complain - MNHQ think they need to respond by sending an email so they can say they've done something - but don't care themselves enough to chase it up since Feb

A couple of hundred probably don't like it due to dislike of casual swearing/the word cunt in particular

A lot of people don't give a shit either way

Quite a few like it, it's clever/amusing/witty

I'm glad you started the thread, it has made me chuckle and I'm pleased you and SM shared a kebab.

I think you should keep your name as I've seen it around and I recognise it, despite being a namechanger myself I can't keep track of others' name changes. Casual swearing doesn't offend me but I don't think it's Big and Clever either. I also think that if MNHQ really cared they'd have contacted you again.

basingstoke · 16/07/2011 08:59

I think you're being a bit daft now. Some people are offended. That's obvious as you'be said yourself. You're never going to find out the full scale of it, certainly not with a thread like this which was only ever going to be a slap on the back fest, and you'be been around long enough to know that. If you want to be inoffensive, change. Clearly you don't, so don't. MN won't make you. Most people don't care is the real story I reckon

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/07/2011 09:04

I don't mind swear words. I use them myself.
However it is the context you use them is what is important to me. I am not offended by "oh bloody hell, I dropped a jar of jam all over the fucking carpet how do I get it out??".
But I cannot differentiate between someone calling me a "fucking bitch" or a "fornicating female dog". Both are equally aggressive and I would take the same amount of offence at either.

I am not all offended by Bupcakesandcunting name.

There will be swearing on this site. Someone who does not like swearing probably should find a different site as I think MNHQ have better things to do with their time than deal with complaints about random swears.

People can be nasty and abusive to other posters without using swears - and that is what needs to be stopped.

BupcakesandCunting · 16/07/2011 09:05

Cheers for the slaps on the back. Could have gone either way and I had no way of knowing which way when I started the thread (admittedly after a bottle of wine Blush)

I've got some kebab left if anyone wants it? Grin

Motherofalllizards · 16/07/2011 09:08

You can't really be surprised that some people will find the word cunt in a username offensive. It doesn't bother me one jot but I can see how it would bother some and quite honestly I can't really see the point in it.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 16/07/2011 09:08

sooooo knew this was going to be you bups!!

Have you explained that MNHQ have been on your back about it again since Feb? It's not a popularity contest, it's that MNHQ still have their knickers in a knot about it. Poll = good idea, gives general overview of name offensiveness to MN masses.

V. few actually offended - sod it, keep the name.

yoshilunk · 16/07/2011 09:09

I'm a bit late to this thread but.... Buppy

Don't go changing
I love you just way you are

I'll decline the kebab thanks, I only eat them when I'm drunk and I've just about sobered up now. Grin

FourThousandHoles · 16/07/2011 09:12

I shall decline the kebab offer

It's probably been stuck to your cheek all night you cunt

BupcakesandCunting · 16/07/2011 09:14

Thanks Thumb! That's what i was trying to do, certainly not trying to prove how "popular" I am or not! I was prepared for a barrage of "yeah you're an idiot."

Does anyone else agree that there is little more of a depressing sight than a discarded kebab on a town centre footpath, early in the morning? I don't know why but they make me really melancholy...

OP posts:
CQrrrneee · 16/07/2011 09:17

I have seen your name loads of times and only just clocked the cunting bit. Confused

spookshowangel · 16/07/2011 09:18

keep it or up date it but dont bow to the pressure of conformity.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 16/07/2011 09:23

I think more depressing is the pile of discarded vegetation outside the kebab shops, tbh! And then a little further down, the spatter of regurgitated kebab itself...

Grin
HeadfirstForHalos · 16/07/2011 09:27

Meh, doesn't bother me.

If MNHQ are going to get pissy about a name because a of afew complaints, how long before a general swear filter is introduced?

When I ditched netmums and joined here, one of the most refreshing things was being treated as adults and allowed to swear Grin

I don't dig the "what if the kids see it" argument, we all know there is a possibility of swearing on the threads so excercise some common sense!

Besides, if they are old enough to read it, I'm sure they've probably already heard it on the school playground.

Sossiges · 16/07/2011 09:29

Pavement pizza is worse.
KaraStarbuckThrace is absolutely completely totally right, end of story [bows]Wine.
Sorry but "no" to Pets Home Store, all the ickle furry hamsters and whatnot running around would distract the Yorkies & therefore give the lion an unfair advantage. How about one of those big floaty, rafty things in the middle of the ocean, no safety rail & the shark gets the loser(s)?

magicmummy1 · 16/07/2011 09:31

I'm quite a prude Blush and I never use that word. But your name doesn't bother me in the slightest. :)

BupcakesandCunting · 16/07/2011 09:37

Sossiges I kept meaning to say last night, your username is brilliant! It reminds me of tha creepy talking dog in the Wall's sausages advert who says "sossiges" Grin
