Am I being unreasonable not to want DD to.watch rastamouse (a cartoon mouse who speaks in a Jamaican accent) as I find the concept mildly offensive?

OP posts:
UrsulaBuffay · 14/06/2011 22:20

offensive to what? mice?

Shoesytwoesy · 14/06/2011 22:21

yabu why is a jamacian accent offensive, I don't like it cos it is crap

worraliberty · 14/06/2011 22:21

Why?

And what does 'mildly offensive' mean?

You're either offended or you're not.

PotPourri · 14/06/2011 22:21

Me too. I think it is a bit mickey taking for my liking - although I really love listening to the accent. Am assuming it is proper actors doing it bigging up their own accent, rather than joanna from taunton talking funny...

WowOoo · 14/06/2011 22:22

Yes you are. Just turn it off if you don't like it.

TheCountessOlenska · 14/06/2011 22:22

Offensive to Jamaican people because they are being depicted as mice?

Pennies · 14/06/2011 22:23
  1. I don't get the point of it at all.

  2. What PotPourri said.

  3. It's box ticking by the Beeb for the sake of it IMO.

piprabbit · 14/06/2011 22:23

Offensive to Jamaican people because none of the boy mice wear trousers?

Why is it offensive to you? Do you realise that there are other people who watch Cbeebies who are Jamaican? And live in this country? And pay their Tv licence? Shame on you.

TheCountessOlenska · 14/06/2011 22:25

Lol @ pip rabbit!

worraliberty · 14/06/2011 22:26

Perhaps the OP is a mouse? Or a Rastafarian?

Or both Shock

CatPower · 14/06/2011 22:26

I love it, the twins Rub and Dub especially.

Just don't get me started on bloody Pwincess Twippy Twoes Sarah Jane from Tickabilla/Mighty Mites.

scottishmummy · 14/06/2011 22:27

not at all.its as offensive as balamory is to scots eg not
go sweat something that really matters

malinois · 14/06/2011 22:28

YABU. The characters talk in patois. So what? Did you find Balamory offensive because the characters talk in Scots accents?

I am very new to cbeebies - I don't like those simpering show me show me idiots or the creepy mr tumble man.

RitaMorgan · 14/06/2011 22:29

I believe some Rastafarians have objected on religious grounds to a mouse being depicted as a Rastafarian - maybe the OP is a Rasta too?

malinois · 14/06/2011 22:29

Eek x-post!

emmanumber3 · 14/06/2011 22:29

In what way do you find it offensive? I don't like it because it's rubbish. Not offended by it though.

maypole1 · 14/06/2011 22:29

Oh. Is jakers the irish pig family box ticking I feel sorry that the op feels that way
Or no one seems to mind handy spanish many

I know why people find rasta mouse offensive in the way they don't find jakers I sure we don't need nick griffen to explain the mind set of those people

Very sad people have Jamaican accents people have Irish accents people have Spanish accents

Get over it

babylann · 14/06/2011 22:30

There have been a few shows I've thought "what?!" about when I've first seen them, and then either my daughter or my cousin's daughter have seemed to love it, and I've suddenly noticed a quality about them. Currently, I'm not sure what Rastamouse is really there for and find it very irritating (I don't mind the accent, I probably dislike the phrasing/slang and the fact that I can't really understand what they're saying unless I'm paying really close attention), but I'm sure my daughter will tell me when she's old enough to do so.

SarahBumBarer · 14/06/2011 22:31

God - isn't there a Jamaican guy at least partly behind this?

Where is the offense?

Some people look to be offended.

worraliberty · 14/06/2011 22:31

It would really help if the OP came back and said what part of it she's offended about.
