icooksocks · 09/05/2011 16:12

I came from Bounty (debates) what does that say about me?
Anyway MN is definitely better, I only wish I'd found it sooner Grin

DramaInPyjamas · 09/05/2011 16:14

I'm only signed up on Netmums to enter the competitons.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/05/2011 16:16

I feel crap today, so the urge to go over the nm and entertain myself has been vast. I am refraining, though I am unsure as to whether or not I will last the day!

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/05/2011 16:17

Well I've just had a peek thanks to this thread.
The first poster I read couldn't spell for toffee and was quite ageist, but everybody seemed to agree with her.
I feel I may be way too old for netmums, there's lot's of nice oldies on Mumsnet, makes me feel at home.

confuddledDOTcom · 09/05/2011 16:26

The worst forum for not disagreeing with anyone is Kelly. Great for breastfeeding information pages, but the forums!!! I usually get banned within a day or two and I'm always careful to be nice, not give duff advice etc.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/05/2011 16:40

Were you not enough of a lentil-weaver for them?

confuddledDOTcom · 09/05/2011 17:11

No, too much Wink they don't like BLW.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/05/2011 17:19

I had always suspected they were lipstick lentil weavers! Proof Wink

melikalikimaka · 09/05/2011 17:24

Netmums is ok, don't know what the fuss is. Looks a little simple!

SilveryMoon · 09/05/2011 17:26

I can't even figure out how to get on the talk boards Blush

MarioandLuigi · 09/05/2011 18:09

I left NM after a big arguement about value sausages

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/05/2011 18:11

I remember the sausage thread. Menkle

MarioandLuigi · 09/05/2011 18:39

It ran and ran didnt it. I got called a snob and a benefit basher (of which I am neither) so I decided to leave.

LittleMissFlustered · 09/05/2011 18:45

Value sausages are evil.

Disclaimer: I am pregnant, all sausages are currently foul. This is putting a crimp in our Sunday breakfast, as we like a full English as a treat :o

thefirstMrsDeVere · 09/05/2011 18:48

Funniest thing about NMs is that you can see how many people are lurking. They list eveyones names at the bottom of the page. You can opt out of this but most people dont.

Its hilarious. There is a massive bundle to any thread with more than a few pages. You can just tell people are getting a massive thrill from watching the ruck.

It really is like a girl's school playground on there.

mamzellerougier · 09/05/2011 19:52

Just been over. I feel a bit dizzy. The txt spk, the Hunning, the grammar oh my eyes!

melikalikimaka · 10/05/2011 09:32

big sausage fan here!

muminthecity · 10/05/2011 12:24

I was a Netmum originally but I couldn't cope with all the racism, homophobia and opinions based on what was printed in the Sun that week. Luckily I soon discovered Mumsnet and have never looked back!

thefirstMrsDeVere - I was delighted to 'find' you over here, we share a lot of opinions and I was often in the minority with you arguing against the BNP lovers over there. In fact, one of the threads which put me off Netmums for good was started by you - it was to do with condolence cards for people whose pets had died. Some of the replies you got were awful and most upsetting. Made me realise how many selfish, insensitive people there were over there.

muminthecity · 10/05/2011 12:25

Oh and I was on the sausage thread too! Can't actually remember which side of the fence I was on, but it all got very heated indeed!

storminabuttercup · 10/05/2011 13:21

please please someone tell me the gist of the sausage thread - i'm sitting here wondering how a thread about sausages can get heated Grin

MarioandLuigi · 10/05/2011 14:03

Basically it was when ASDA brought out value sausages - they work out at 8p each. It started off by some of us saying that to be so cheap they would need to have very poor meat content. It then ran and ran and turned into some of us being accused of bashing those on benefits because they couldnt afford fancy sausages. Lots of name calling, lots of deleting.

I still hold the belief (and I said it on the thread) that if your budget is low, there are other alternatives than sausages which have less than 50% meat.

MarioandLuigi · 10/05/2011 14:05

I do like the NetMums nearly new boards, so I do still go over there to buy and sell, but I give the coffeehouse a miss!

thefirstMrsDeVere · 10/05/2011 17:09

muminthecity yeah that one Hmm

Lots of people refusing to actually read what I had written and choosing to go on about how lovely dogs and cats are. I stayed on to the bitter end though Smile

The really annoying ones were when people said 'FFS bereaved parents have more important things to think about you know!!!!!! [rolly eyes rolly eyes rolly eyes]. Like they knew better than me.

I have to say I did get a few apologies and some people took the time to relook at what I had said and come back to me.
The thing about NMs is that you also get lots and lots of supportive PMs from people who are too scared to post against the majority. I think that is really sad.

The main BNP culprit, who used to hide behind her religion and is the most passive agressive person I have ever come across, has now renounced her 'faith'. Still being a victim and posting bigoted bollocks mind you Hmm

Bizkit · 10/05/2011 17:36

Netmums is okay, but I dont post alot, Im more of a lurker. They do jump on everybodys opinion and recently alot of people have been complaining on the mods sections about how the site is going down hill. One thing that really annoys me though is the overuse of the 'rolling eyes emotion' and the 'wagging finger emotion'.

Also they do have health visitors and relate advisors and such stuff who pop on certain boards, which can be helpful for more serious stuff.

Very true that the local boards are alot better over there though, and I check the notice board on a daily basis which is very active. If you need a local plumber or wanna know why there was an ambulance down so and so road, you'll get the answer.

muminthecity · 10/05/2011 18:31

thefirstMrsDeVere - I am glad that you got some apologies from that thread, it is a shame they couldn't apologise publicly on the thread though, there may well have been others reading who felt upset and offended by some of the comments.

I am amazed to hear that someone who spent hours every day banging the drum for her 'religion' and the dubious racism and homophobia that apparently went with it has now renounced her faith! Though I always suspected that her views were borne of ignorance and bigotry rather than religion Hmm
