How much do you drink a week?

whatever17 · 16/04/2011 01:50

In units? And do you space it out?

I drink about 20 -25 units a week but I do it in 2 doses really.

Fuck knows.

A Fair Bit?

Are you asking because you feel you drink too much?

HansDatdoodishes · 16/04/2011 01:56

...

AgentZigzag · 16/04/2011 02:01

Look at you with your big fat superior 0 hans, you're making judgements about me aren't you?? Grin

Morloth · 16/04/2011 02:03

We split a bottle of wine a week or so. I have one margerita in Friday cause it Mexican night here on Friday (we like to live dangerously!).

Some weeks nothing at all, if at a party I will have a couple of beers or a couple of glasses of wine.

The advent of the screw top wine bottle is the best thing ever, I love just having a half glass and being able to just put the lid back on.

I don't know about units because I don't think about it that much. if I feel like I have been drinking a lot, then I scale it back.

whatever17 · 16/04/2011 02:04

Agent ZZ - yep I drink too much - but I have a suspicion that loads of other mums are quietly slurping away once the kids are in bed.

I am asking because I am curious!

OP posts:
whatever17 · 16/04/2011 02:05

OMG Morloth - that's not much! Hmm

OP posts:
spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:06

Mmmm, tons.

But in a couple of extra special doses that allow me to be a functioning human being whilst secretly being a giant booze hound.

So yes OP. I feel your (quite fuzzy) pain, or maybe joy - who the fuck knows.

I quite enjoy it. It's what keeps me human.

Shouldn't fret too much.

spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:09

Bugger Morloth 'half a glass then put the lid back on'..??

You are blessed indeed if you have such self control.

whatever17 · 16/04/2011 02:13

spiderslegs - yes, twice a week and I have a "hangover kit" (perfume, gum, dry shampoo, liquid milk thistle, and eye brightener).

I spoke to a mate/fellow boozehound and how we chortled at the folly of attempting to keep a "drinks cabinet".

The half a glass is for wine o'clock after a particularly irritating day with the kids.

I like a drink and enjoy getting tipsy every now and again. But I work out a lot and my body let's me know when the 'every now and again' has become too often.

So many people seem to be at either end of the spectrum. There is a happy middle ground to be had.

FourFingeredKitkat · 16/04/2011 02:16

This month, zip :)

whatever17 · 16/04/2011 02:20

Interesting, I assumed everyone drank loads behind closed doors when the kids were asleep. Me and all my mates do.

Sometimes I use it to self medicate after a particularly difficult day (which can be most days tbf), but I try to wait until at least 6 am and I can't stomach drinking after we've eaten at 9 so it's usually not that much.

But I don't really eat Fri/Sat, so that frees up the glass topping up a bit.

What would concern me is if I was getting room spinning/staggering/slurring (which I never do) regularly, ie if I was out of control.

That wouldn't be enjoying alcohol, it's designed to tell you if you're having too much.

spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:26

Ahh Whatever, I too groan through two days a week, as I suspect alot more people than will actually tell you do. I have always been quite honest about my drinking.

Look who posts late on FB, always a give away.

I favour paracetamol, a cheerful diposition, tea & 'smoking myself back to health'. Repeat as necessary.

Morloth · 16/04/2011 02:29

Nope, but then I will also smoke in certain social situations, but it is once every 6 months or so and only very expensive cigars.

It isn't a case of self control, just a case of wanting to enjoy stuff whilst acknowledging that these are things you don't want to be doing all the time.

spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:30

& yes Zigzag, if I was a'stumbling around the house.

Or unable to type.

Would be a trip to Promises Arizona for me.

SpringFollows · 16/04/2011 02:31

Alot really, I think going unit wise, but not a great deal compared to friends/family. Usually one gin and tonic before dinner when DH gets home and we 'unwind' and then we more often than not split a bottle of wine over dinner. I cannot remember the last time I was drunk though.

Not this month though. Need to lose weight. Quickest thing for me is to cut out drinking.

spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:34

Interesting that this is the only really active thread....

It may be a self-selecting group.....

saffronwblue · 16/04/2011 02:36

Probably only a glass or two a week. It used to be more but I realised that it makes me grumpy and depressed the next day.

iscream · 16/04/2011 02:38

None most of the year. Christmas, New years, Valentines Day, Anniversary, I will have a few glasses of champagne.

blinks · 16/04/2011 02:41

0 generally, only for spesh occassions/nights oot.

AgentZigzag · 16/04/2011 02:42

'Interesting that this is the only really active thread....

hehe, the other 35 million MN members made up of lightweights Grin

spiderslegs · 16/04/2011 02:45

Jeysus - are there 35 million of them now?

And 34,999,994 of them sober upholders of the nation's values.

Feeling quite scared.

AgentZigzag · 16/04/2011 02:48

No, don't feel fear spiders, feel judgement.

That's what we're all here for, right? Grin

SpringFollows · 16/04/2011 02:51

I am unhappily sober. Glass of wine at lunch then this month's booze free thingie-whatsits started. Have insomnia though due to professional stress. Alcohol though does not help with that either TBH.

Lying in bed feeling alone, and thought that I knew where to find people awake willing to chat.... [God Bless mumsnet and all who sail in her]
