How much do you drink a week?

In units? And do you space it out?

I drink about 20 -25 units a week but I do it in 2 doses really.

So you're suggesting that because your ex is a drunk, everyone else who had a glass of wine with their dinner is somehow equivalent to him? very sensible.

Actually, a drink a day is going to do you far less harm than occasional binges - just so you know.

FabbyChic · 18/04/2011 23:44

Sorry re the liver, im only getting my info by text! Im such an ass.

winnybella · 18/04/2011 23:46

Yes, agree with you re: drinking a bottle of wine every evening. Nevertheless lots of people have alcohol problems and therefore calling them saddos is not very considerate.

PenguinArmy · 18/04/2011 23:50

Fabby your experience has nothing to do with what I said in my post. I still stand by it entirely.

You were judgmental and made several assumptions about posters here. You said you don't drink and then said you only drink if you go out (hence the self consistent phrase)

I believe the OP was 'how much do you drink a week', not 'how much do you drink on your own' Nor was it 'if you drink does that mean you have a alcohol problem' because drinking is binary don't ya know.

Ach, am with penguin.

'They' have decided too much wine causes cancer in women.

Would that be the 'they' of the Daily Mail that decides any slightly aberrant behaviour in women causes death to the ovaries first, the morals second & the rest of the body will wither in response.

& God forbid she should ever consider contraception or abortion. She will be eaten up by cancer.

My two livers say, 'fuck you, we're dancing our dance'

& my tongue says, ' a lively white, thank you'

& my moral compass says, 'would be a lonely world where we were all the same'

Drinking kills, now they have decided that too much wine causes cancer in women.

And who are they...Confused

Why doesn't wine cause cancer in men?

Everything kills if you overdo it.

Grin spiderslegs

Have a Wine

spiderslegs · 19/04/2011 22:19

Reeling

It's sliding down nicely.

Thanks.

We tend to share a bottle of wine on a Saturday, and the occasional sloe gin pre dinner. I hardly ever get drunk like I did in my 30s, the hanger over and sleep disruption are worse as I get older.
The most I ever drank was when I worked in liver transplant which is properly ironic.

reelingintheyears · 19/04/2011 22:59

Share a bottle of Wine?

Are you mad?

Asinine · 19/04/2011 23:02

No, I meant share the contents, but that's pedant's cornerish

Yes, in all probability I am insane, not asinine [smlie]

I drink white wine, DH drinks red (for his heart). He usually has two glasses, which he finishes. I very rarely even finish 1- usually come down in the morning to find it has become a killing field for fruit flies. A bottle of white can last about 10 days to a fortnight in this house unless we have visitors.

My father is an alcoholic- he drinks about 30 units a day (1 bottle of gin or whiskey, or 6-7 cans of extra-strong lager which he claims is not really drinking as it's not spirits) and has done for 40+ years. I have no idea how he is still alive and in comparatively good health for a man of 71. Growing up with an alcoholic puts an entirely different slant on alcohol.

I often wonder whether the children of alcoholics have a different expression of their relationship with alcohol despite the alleged increased genetic potential for addiction- of the 5 of us, only my brother really drinks at all and he has now given up entirely.

spiderslegs · 19/04/2011 23:28

Duchesse - I come from a family of drinkers.

There are five of us.

It depends how the drinkers drink.

You may be right.

CareyFakes · 19/04/2011 23:30

Nuffink, well unless I'm going out, then I just drink the whole litre of whatever to ensure even numbers

lesley33 · 19/04/2011 23:39

3 pints of real ale a week on 2 visits to the pub. And 1 small drink at the weekend e.g. small glass of wine. Also have a full drinks cabinet.
