How much do you drink a week?

In units? And do you space it out?

I drink about 20 -25 units a week but I do it in 2 doses really.

You should lookat what you drink per day not per week - its the binging which does the most damage as the liver can only process one unit an hour.

Abcinthia · 16/04/2011 10:24

I normally drink 0 units per week.

Occasionally I'll have a drink but only a couple of times a month.

Vicky2011 · 16/04/2011 10:31

probs not even a bottle of wine a week, which is WAY less than I used to drink when DS was at his demanding age. There are times, after a day with a toddler, when only wine-induced brain fuzz will do

TheGoddessBlossom · 16/04/2011 10:43

I drink 1 or 2 glasses of red most nights. Have 1, maybe 2 nights off a week.

If out at dinner party it is at least double this.

Yukana · 16/04/2011 11:15

No alcohol for me or DP. DP may have one bottle of beer in a blue moon if things are very stressful or it's a special occasion.

vmcd28 · 16/04/2011 11:19

half a bottle a night, then more on a saturday. Although, this week we managed to have ONE NIGHT without alcohol! Go, us!

LadyWithNoManors · 16/04/2011 11:21

Not sure of units but probably 2 bottles of wine a week over 2 nights - friday and saturday.
It is too much probably but I justify it by saying I only drink at the weekend.

Pagwatch · 16/04/2011 11:25

I drink on three nights a week..fri, sat and sun. We share a bottle of wine. I might have a kir or a gin or some fizz too. That's it really.

I used to drink loads. Then my dad died of liver cancer and I realised I need to give my liver a break regularly. Plus after years of assuming it helped me relax and helped my insomnia I stopped drinking for a month and my insomnia disappeared.

Snorbs · 16/04/2011 11:45

I'll have a couple of beers a couple of nights a week, plus a small glass or two of wine one afternoon a week with a friend. If I'm out with mates then I'll have more but that's fairly rare. Booze is the first thing crossed off the shopping list when money's tight.

"spiderslegs" -

you said "smoking your way back to health" - bleurgh! I can't smoke for a couple of days after I have had a "quiet sipping session".

However, I do smoke proper, posh fags - B&H Gold. And my lungs continue to smoke for a couple of days after.

Restrict myself to lovely cider because of it's health benefits. Only a gallon and I'm well over my 5 a day. makes typing a bit awkward though.

EricNorthmansMistress · 18/04/2011 22:43

Loads. About two to three units a day with one day a week when I will have a bit more. Maybe once a month a lot more.

shakey1500 · 18/04/2011 22:46

A typical week hardly anything, maybe two glasses of wine, if that. I can't handle my drink anymore. Waaay back in my hey day, pre ds I would probably sink about 20-30 bottles of beer a week, plus wine. Dh even more.

Since having ds though,dh will go out maybe once every two weeks and have 4/5 pints. He'll have a couple of cans each evening indoors. I go out about once a month (more if I'm rehearsing/perfoming) and will have one drink afterwards.

Once in a blue moon I get together with 2 others and will totally exceed my usual limits in one night so I guess it would be classed as a "binge" but it happens only about thrice a year.

Newgolddream · 18/04/2011 22:47

Yep loads here to. A couple of very large vodkas most nighst when Im cooking and realxing. And then loads more on a Friday, since DH works from a Sat-Sun Friday night is "our night".

On the rare occasions out I would have a bottle of wine with dinner.

Far far far too much.
Like you whatever17, I thought most would be like me but have discovered most don't have the same habit.

Olifin · 18/04/2011 23:27

On an average week, probably 12 units maybe but this takes conscious effort since I have been through phases where I was definitely a bit dependent and drank too much on a regular basis and have also been through periods of total abstinence. Summer is a bit of a trigger for me; spritzers in the garden of an evening. This last week has been poor: none at all on the weekdays last week but then perhaps 10 units on Fri night and even more on Sat night....I think I got through 2 or more bottles of champagne Blush Needless to say, I was legless and made a tit of myself, felt very unwell yesterday and still feeling quite sh*t today. That was the worst binge episode I've had in at least a year or so though so I will try to learn a lesson from the experience.

2 glasses on 3 or 4 nights of the week would seem an ok amount to me, personally.

FabbyChic · 18/04/2011 23:28

I don't drink.

Drinking at home is for sados, Im a social drinker, if I go out I drink, if I stay home I don't.

I never drink alone thats a recipe for disaster and is also a sad event.

PenguinArmy · 18/04/2011 23:32

Another well rounded, self consistent, non judgmental post from FabbyChic

winnybella · 18/04/2011 23:34

I'm not sure how having a glass of wine with your dinner is sad, Fabby Hmm

thumbbunny · 18/04/2011 23:37

"drinking at home is for sados [sic]" Ahahaha.
Or for grown ups who quite like a glass of wine with their evening meal.

FabbyChic · 18/04/2011 23:39

Drinking too much wine causes cancer.

Penguin considering my childs father is in hospital right now with a fucked liver, and a blood disorder caused by drinking too much on his own, and using drink as a crutch for the past 15 years, I feel I can speak from experience.

He has lost liver function on one liver and has developed diabetes, they sill don't know what the blood disorder is could be hepatitis, all through too much lager!

Drinking kills, now they have decided that too much wine causes cancer in women.

Drinking alone is sad, drinking for the sake of it is sad. Drink for a reason, not because it is there.

winnybella · 18/04/2011 23:43

'He has lost liver function on one liver'

Er...human have only one liver, afaik.

Causes cancer if overindulged in, maybe, but 1 or 2 small glasses of wine are very good for your heart, according to the latest research.

And there's nothing sad in having a glass of wine on your own. It's lovely, in fact.

FabbyChic · 18/04/2011 23:43

Ive done the drinking alone to get pissed 16 years ago, the leaving work and being desperate for a drink, realising that I craved it made me realise that I had a problem with it.

When I talk about drinking I talk from experience.

A glass of wine with dinner is not drinking it is a drink with your dinner.

Finishing the whole bottle though is drinking to excess.
