Want a happy story?
Mate of mine working with a team building a playground in a tough area.
Local yoblets come up and said 'We'll just smash it up after you've gone'
6'2" of tattooed fury leapt out of the trench he was digging, went nose to nose with the ringleader and snarled 'I've just done 5 years for GBH and if you fuck with my stuff you'll be fucking sorry. I'll find you lot and sort you.'
Menacing nods and grunts from the rest of the team.
Ringleader and yoblets ran. The playground was left untouched for years.
My mate took his work gang back to prison, rather proud of them all.

chabbychic · 05/04/2011 18:12

Knittedbreast are you in Reading?

jonicomelately · 05/04/2011 18:15

I love that story Goblinchild Smile

Knittedbreast, if you have any sense, I wouldn't tell anybody where you are from. No offence chabbychic Smile

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 05/04/2011 18:15

I don't want to repeat what's already been said.

Really good post by Babylann

heliumballoons · 05/04/2011 18:15

Goblin I just snorted pepsi. Grin

I know it wasn't meant to be funny but its the way you wrote it.

iwantadogbutarabbitwoulddo · 05/04/2011 18:32

I get why some of you find the r word offensive.

But tbh, arent all offensive words 'supposed' to be offensive?

I agree that op didnt say the word in an offensive context.

Also the word cunt i find that offensive cos i actually have one, and people use it as an offensive word. Noone ever say this word cos ill derail your thread, okay!

You can apply the same logic to:
dickhead
idiot
fool
bastard (anyone here born out of wedlock?)

the point is, you can spend all day arguing that you find a word offensive, but in this case the op wasnt intending to offend you, so please get over it. Saying to the op that you are a tad offended and please be thoughtful is fine. Behaving as you did is not called for imo.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 18:38

Why should I?
To spare the tender feelings of knittedbreast?
I need a better reason.

heliumballoons · 05/04/2011 18:38

Iwant you have just put what I've beeen thinking for the past hour perfectly. Well said.

sweet1gilly · 05/04/2011 18:39

Goblinchild

Hehe. I like you.

stylenotfashion · 05/04/2011 18:40

you like one poster picking on another?

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 18:40

Do you think that the strong reactions she had might stop her being so specifically offensive in the future on MN?
If so that's a result.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 18:43

I like a racist, sexist or disablist poster getting a virtual swift kick up the arse, yes.

Glitterknickaz · 05/04/2011 18:47

Sorry, but if someone here was using a racially offensive term they'd be thoroughly castigated over several pages, and those doing the telling off would absolutely not be told to be quiet, shut up, that's enough.

Why can't mentally disabled people be afforded the same respect?

One thing I hate about this place, completely disablist comment and insult is not challenged sufficiently.

jonicomelately · 05/04/2011 18:48

Look. The OP has gone now. I think she's got the point.

alotofchocolate · 05/04/2011 18:49

oh here we go again pc police are out to play, get over yourselves folks, op has a point people like this are idiots!!!! ditto people who constantly get their knickers in a knot

chibi · 05/04/2011 18:50

ditto people who ejaculate exclamation marks all over their posts

SardineQueen · 05/04/2011 18:50

Cunt isn't an equal opportunities insult, though.

I don't know that it can be taken that the OP hates disabled people, surely? She used a word she shouldn't have, I don't think she meant directly and specifically to have a go at real people. She apologised.

I find this thread rather overwhelming TBH.

Glitterknickaz · 05/04/2011 18:53

Wanting my children to be afforded common courtesy and respect does not make me the PC police. I am sure most parents want the same for their children.

I am not saying the OP was deliberately disablist, but to continue trying to justify the use of an offensive term when it is explicitly stated to you just how offensive that term is isn't exactly the best way to go is it?
