'I can well imagine the sort of people you were friends with at school. Not people any decent person would want to know.'

As I said earlier, this thread is out of hand.

lottiejenkins · 05/04/2011 17:26

My son has special needs and i get very Angry Angry Angry with people who use the "r" word! Well done OP you have just joined that group! Hmm

EldritchCleavage · 05/04/2011 17:27

Actually joni, I agree. No point piling in to make the same points already made higher up the thread.

grovel · 05/04/2011 17:29

Too right, joni.

southeastastra · 05/04/2011 17:30

another nitpicking mn thread. surprised people have so much time to be offended. agree with joni also.

stylenotfashion · 05/04/2011 17:31

Hate it when it gets like a witchhunt on MN.

Enough.

Indeed, joni.

MarianneM · 05/04/2011 17:32

I agree with the latest posters. Enough already!

The OP did not mean to offend - many of you do.

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2011 17:34

I think it's when the op disappears and people hang around waiting for a response, it keeps the thread bumped and people will contributed if they feel moved to by the content of the thread.

There is little else to say on the matter really. Hangman? It's a band...

Bugger, strike out won't let me write the dashes

3 words, 4 2 5

stylenotfashion · 05/04/2011 17:35

Why does MN so often descend into these slag-offs?? It's such a shame. It's like if someone makes a mistake everyone piles in to shoot them down. Everyone has to say how wrong it was. I don't like confrontation at the best of times but it always turns so verbally violent. I hate it :(

style...didnt you say on the other thread that you've only been here 3 months!!Grin

ShowOfHands · 05/04/2011 17:37

Nature of forums style.

Same happens when people are looking for sympathy/advice/help. People will say the same thing, agree with others and repeat things. Because it's about making a contribution largely and you want to do that if you have an opinion, regardless of whether it has already been said. Forums are a strange beast and not comparable to a rl conversation.

And I think nobody was attacking the op, but defending a salient point.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 17:39

'oh well. I have never been asked not to use that word before ever, in fact i have never met anyone before who has assumed i was talking about it in that context at all.'

Well, I think you will find a lot of people on this site who will be able to tell you when you are being offensive and ignorant. Let's hope you are a fast learner.

MarianneM · 05/04/2011 17:39

Come on, SOH, this is an attack:

Knitted Breast, I can well imagine the sort of people you were friends with at school. Not people any decent person would want to know.

boohoohoo · 05/04/2011 17:44

The point is if people don't make a noise about offensive terms (although in this case I find it hard to believe anyone needs educating in how offensive the word is, unless they are ten years old) how will we change it? Also I think the responses have shown how deeply upset people are, of course no need to witch hunt but think its natural for people to reply strongly.

heliumballoons · 05/04/2011 17:44

I hate the R word myself. But Tbh I have heard it used alot Shock.

I think for the OP she did apologise and explain why she used it to show she meant no offence. It then became an explanation when she had to justify, apologise and explain to the masses.

knittedbreast now you know how much offence can be caused please just don't use it again.

And with regards to your OP YANBU.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 17:45

Back to the OP.
I used to work in an area that was almost entirely first generation immigrant parents with young children. There was a children's playpark nearby, used mostly by the local community,
A group of ignorant young racists superglued broken glass to the slide, because they didn't feel that Pakis should have a playpark.
It was a tube slide, and the two children that went down it ended up with stitches.

stylenotfashion · 05/04/2011 17:50

ILoveTiffany I have been here 3 months, and in that time I've seen alot of innocent but stupid comments pounded by Mners. Each time it has shocked me and upset me, frankly. Its like they smell blood and all jump in for a bunfight.

You're right though, showofhands, a forum is a strange beast and I guess I'm still getting used to it all.

I just don't like people ganging up against one poster. I have thin skin I guess!!

I'll learn to get used to it, I guess. I just hope I never join in.

Goblinchild · 05/04/2011 17:54

Those that react strongly to abusive language used by the ignorant tend to be posters who are parents of children who have frequently been subject to that sort of abuse in RL.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 05/04/2011 17:55

Fuck me, Goblin.

That, the acid, burning stuff down...

There are somw twisted fuckers around.

southeastastra · 05/04/2011 17:56
