Has anyone posted this monstrosity yet? too pretty to do Maths

There's a post about it on the feminism thread but I can't see one here.

It's 2011. They do know that over at Littlewoods right?

Wow! I'm speechless!!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 01/04/2011 13:39

I am astonished that anyone would think that that is acceptable. dreadful.

Fucking norah.

I would post this in feminism as well tbh.

That is CRAP.

Portofino · 01/04/2011 13:40

That is atrocious!

Mumwithadragontattoo · 01/04/2011 13:40

Yuck!

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2011 13:40

Sorry unruly missed you saying that it is already in feminism.

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 01/04/2011 13:42

It's mind numbingly stupid but if anyone wants to buy it so what.....it's just like the I'm too Sexy for My Shirt sort of thing.

I cant be bothered to get upset over crap like that - it's just teenage shite basically Hmm - nothing more, nothing less!

everthebeliver · 01/04/2011 13:42

I dont get it, why is it so unacceptable and disgusting? Its a bit of fun thats all surely

NinkyNonker · 01/04/2011 13:46

What a piece of tosh.

Can people genuinely not see what is wrong with it, or am I just not 'cool'?

Jins · 01/04/2011 13:48

I'd like one but I'd be done under the trade descriptions act

controlpantsandgladrags · 01/04/2011 13:48

wow......I'd love to know who was responsible for that piece of crap.

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 01/04/2011 13:49

Ninky I seriously dont see what is wrong with it other than it is just crap!! I genuinely dont understand why people read so much into stuff and cant accept it just at face value......

Why is it offensive?? It's just a gimmick?? Remeber from the 80's - Girls Just Wanna have fun?? Maybe this is the "noughties" version.....a bit of harmless fun that's all!

Unrulysun · 01/04/2011 13:49

Ha ha yes! Sorry. It's not completely unacceptable that girls should aspire to be pretty and that Maths should be seen as something hard for ugly people and boys, it's funny on both those counts. Fuck me that's hilarious! Thanks for making me see the error of my ways.

Grin at JINS!
My thoughts to!

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2011 13:51

I think you're over reacting. It's nothing new.

I used to have a 'natural blonde, please speak slowly' tee shirt when I was around 13ish.

Those kinds of blonde joke slogan clothing items are tasteless and tacky but I don't think anyone takes them seriously.

GeneHuntsMistress · 01/04/2011 13:51

I'm not sure what I find most depressing.

The fucking socks or the fact that grown people can't see what is so offensive about them. Grown WOMEN at that. Sheesh.

steamedtreaclesponge · 01/04/2011 13:53

No, you're right, that's awful.

The whole range appears to be called 'Dumb Blonde' - FFS

Desperateforthinnerthighs · 01/04/2011 13:53

Unruly...and breathe!

Jin - you made me laugh too

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 01/04/2011 13:54

Indeed Gene.

Snuppeline · 01/04/2011 13:55

Its just as bad as all the playboy tat that was so fashionable a few years back. Little girls walked around in the bunny logo... disgusting!

Guildenstern · 01/04/2011 13:55

I've had a look at some other D & G slogans for kids and I can't say I like them.

For example, 'Sorry girls, I only date models' and 'I'm with the MILF'. These t-shirts are sized for under 6 year olds.

Unrulysun · 01/04/2011 13:56

No it is nothing new. It's depressingly old.

When should I start letting dd know that it's OK for her to be valued only for the way she looks and that she lives in a world where that's what happens to little girls? She's only 10 months old now. Should I start letting her get accustomed to the idea from one year old or should I wait until she starts school by which time other children and adults will be helping me with this kind of shit?

OP posts:
NinkyNonker · 01/04/2011 13:57

But the people buying from the Littlewoods catalogue will be adults, not teens or pre-teens. So what adult in their right mind would buy that piece of tat with that message for a young person? What kind of message would you be giving? And besides, the stereotype of maths being too hard or too dull for girls, or that if you're pretty you must also be thick is obviously still alive and well otherwise this never would have been made.

manicinsomniac · 01/04/2011 13:58

I have far more of a problem with the other two in the range:

www.littlewoods.com/david-and-goliath/e/b/5644.end?cmtag=mrf

Not a huge problem but I find it a bit icky that people want to parade something that says they're better than other people, tongue in cheek or not.

Ultimately - all 3 are silly but not worth bothering with in my opinion
