to think Kate Middleton looks ok?

Am genuinely mystified about the mauling she gets from the fashion press.

I quite like her style... and I also quite like the fact she isn't ostentatiously splashing cash on one-off outfits whilst most other people are counting every penny.

Can't decide if this means I am now officially old and past it or whether the media is misjudging the mood of the country.

I agree. I think she looks great and very stylish. I also think the media are out of order in commenting on her weight. She has always been very slim (from the photos I've seen of her from the past 10 years) and most women lose weight in the run up to a wedding. Why would she be any different?

onlion · 12/03/2011 15:03

I think she looks awfully old for her age and tbh I dont think she is very attractive

but I dont have to and she is happily about to get married so who cares what I think

Underachieving · 12/03/2011 15:04

Its the press, her public profile's just gone interstellar, of course they're going to criticise her for something. If it's only her fashion sense then you can be sure she comes up pretty spotless under scrutiny. Remember Coleen Rooney as a young woman, they went for exactly the same angle there.

phooey · 12/03/2011 15:06

I do think she is pretty enough with a genuinely amazing figure, but she dresses beyond her years. She's probably under pressure to wear demure clothes though, couldn't wear minis and skyscraper heels even if she wanted to.

I think something in her face makes her look like a snobby cow but that's just me being randomly judgey.

Hammy02 · 12/03/2011 15:14

I must admit she has perfected the smug look. So Kate, what is it that attracted you to the first in line to the throne?!

celticlassie · 12/03/2011 15:14

I think she dresses too old for her age but what she wears is quite nice. I think a lot of her attractiveness comes from money though, without the perfect teeth, hair, etc she'd be quite an ordinary looking, albeit pretty, girl.

I also don't think she looks like the kind of girl you could go out and have a laugh with ...

belgo · 12/03/2011 15:17

She does look ok, I agree.

She could look fantastic, given her figure, face and money, but she usually manages to look ok.

MadameCastafiore · 12/03/2011 15:19

She seriously needs a good haircut - the long long hair really ages her - mind you so do the crows feet!

Am saying all this now before I can be beheaded for being mean about the queen!

phooey · 12/03/2011 15:22

I know what you mean celticlassie - I'd look amaaazing if I had her sort of money Grin

If i were her I'd smile with my teeth more, werar my hair all piled up sometimes, wear Burberry Prorsum trenches over funky tops with cropped tight trousers and killer Louboutins.

Maybe I'm more Colleen than Kate Hmm

hockeyforjockeys · 12/03/2011 15:26

I irrationally don't like her, I actually know people who went to school and they have said she was perfectly lovely, so I do feel mean about it. However I don't like the way she dresses, we are the same age and I am still rocking the student chic look with the odd bit of sophistication, while she is always immaculate but dull. I also don't like that she has never had a real job and is now giving up any pretence of having a career, and will be a dutiful wife to bring along to 'dos'. Wills is managing to hold down a sembalance of a regular job while carrying out royal duties, why isnt she. It seems ridiculous for a woman of my generation. The medias desire for her to be the next Diana is also a tad annoying.

P.S. She has a lovely figure and it is outrageous the press are criticising this!

RedFlagHag · 12/03/2011 15:28

She's averagely pretty and fairly well dressed. What else is there to say? I am bemused by the amount of attention she gets. I blame the DM.

Restrainedrabbit · 12/03/2011 15:28

I think she looks fine, I'm not a raving Royalist by any stretch but it such a shame she is scrutinised so much. She probably has to be conservatively dressed in that role and besides not everyone cares - or should care - about being highly fashionable.

thefirstMrsDeVere · 12/03/2011 15:33

I think she look great. Not my style but she dresses well and has lovely hair. She looks better than Diana used to and she was a fashion icon Confused

I am NOT a royalist btw. Nuh uh, not ever.

JemimaMop · 12/03/2011 15:33

I think she looks perfectly normal and just fine!

Restrainedrabbit · 12/03/2011 15:38

I think it is a sign of the times that we expect so much from female public figures in terms of looks, clothes etc. Lets face it Wills is no fashion icon and isn't overtly handsome either yet his appearance rarely gets commented on.

vinestein · 12/03/2011 15:48

I think she looks lovely, nice, approachable, pretty and elegant. She is very very tiny, has lovely features- I actually like what she wears which I think is fit for purpose, she has to look elegant and demure.

I'm sure once she is more accepted she will start to experiment more with new designers and edgier clothes, but as it is she is lovely appearance-wise and should be left alone.

I'm younger than her and have had more of a career though, so I wish she would now get on with having a job and doing something useful because it would provide a great role model

vinestein · 12/03/2011 15:51

by tiny I don't mean tiny is someting to aspire to, I mean she's almost too tiny- but she's fine as she is, she shouldn't be criticised

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 12/03/2011 15:53

hockeyforjockey

imho the lack of job thing would probably be the same if he wasn't a Royal but was still in the Forces. It's tricky for Forces wives to get a job when the employers know they might be moved a year down the line when the spouse gets re-posted.

FWIW...

BalloonSlayer · 12/03/2011 16:01

I think she looks lovely.

The one I think looks just ghastly is Samantha Cameron. I can't understand why she is supposed to be so fashionable. I liked that yellow dress she wore when 9 months' pregnant but that's about it. I am ten years older than her and if I wore what she does I'd look like a frump. She seemed to be channelling Maggie Thatcher recently with a blouse - I mean, for the love of God, a blouse - with a bow at the neck. Yet the media salivate over her as if she is some sort of fashion goddess. And she needs to get her bloody fringe cut.

WipsGlitter · 12/03/2011 16:08

I think Kate looks good but agree she needs to cut her hair a bit and go easy on the black eyeliner! I love SamCam's look apart from get hoop earrings.

hockeyforjockeys · 12/03/2011 16:10

It might be tricky, but she could at least have a go at trying to get a job! There are ways and means around it, it just gets my goat that she seems to be being groomed to some 50s throwback idea of a wife.

emsyj · 12/03/2011 16:29

I think she is very pretty and usually well-dressed. She is very very very slim Envy.

I never 'got' the whole 'Diana most beautiful woman in the world' thing and always thought she was quite ugly (on the outside) and with crap hair... Blush To me, Kate is much more attractive looking.

anonacfr · 12/03/2011 16:35

I'm with Wips. She seriously needs to ditch the Diana eyeliner- it's so ageing.

Hockey you're right. I love the way she was 'working' (2 days a week) for her parents' friends (with unlimited holiday time in case Wills wanted to go to Klosters or Mustique) and then quit because of stress.
And then proceeded to become a photographer- she started staging an exhibition which never materialised and then decided to 'work' for her parents. While living in Wales with Wills. Hmm

Not a great role model there.

noddyholder · 12/03/2011 16:38

I think she is average looking and far too thin. Her clothes and whole look are dated but she seems nice and amenable which I suspect is what they were after for him after Diana who was by all accounts pretty wild behind closed doors and a lot of fun

blueshoes · 12/03/2011 16:38

I think Kate is attractive, rather than pretty. Which is a good quality for a future queen. I think she has the right temperament too, not too ambitious career-wise, or fun-loving (unlike Chelsy).

She reminds me Diana in a lot of ways. But I think she will fit in better. I like the fact she is not blonde.

I wish both of them all the best.
