to think Kate Middleton looks ok?

Am genuinely mystified about the mauling she gets from the fashion press.

I quite like her style... and I also quite like the fact she isn't ostentatiously splashing cash on one-off outfits whilst most other people are counting every penny.

Can't decide if this means I am now officially old and past it or whether the media is misjudging the mood of the country.

Serious loss of perspective if you think she is "average" or "just ok"!

is that aimed at just me or the entire thread ??

stillstanding · 19/04/2011 16:48

Aimed at anyone who thinks she is average or ok ... ?

SueSylvesterforPM · 19/04/2011 16:55

were allowed opinions

just your allowed yours there are many icons e.g marilyn, helen mirren etc who I don't see the big deal about. its just as valid as someone who does.

noddyholder · 19/04/2011 16:56

I think she looks ok. Inoffensive but nothing special

stillstanding · 19/04/2011 16:58

Of course, sue. No one is suggesting otherwise.

My opinion (if one has to preface this always) is that anyone who thinks that she is average has lost perspective - or is lives somewhere pretty extraordinary.

CointreauVersial · 19/04/2011 17:01

I think she has a lovely figure and great hair, but she gets criticised for being too "safe" and classic for her age.

I agree with a few others who've mentioned Sam Cam - those dreadful round-neck sacks she wears all the time! So unflattering.

Insomnia11 · 19/04/2011 17:02

I think she's a very attractive girl "girl next door type" who dresses well and seems like a nice person. I've seen no mauling by the press, articles I've read have been complimentary. Have read daft things about her weight but more playing upon the "waity/weighty" Katie thing - the original was "waity Katie" in reference to her waiting for a marriage proposal not to do with her weight. I think she looks great slim as she was before or skinny as she is now.

What I have read more of is jealous, nasty comments on internet forums.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/04/2011 17:04

So... if anyone told you that you or your daughters or your sons were just 'ok' or 'average looking' or worse 'plain' or 'ugly', you'd be alright with that? Really? I've seen quite a few pictures proudly posted of DCs and quietly thought it to myself.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and actually, nobody and everybody knows what is 'beautiful' because it's entirely subjective.

I think Middleton is the perfect name really.

Megatron · 19/04/2011 17:24

I think she looks lovely. She can't win whatever she wears anyway, some will love it some will hate it.

Insomnia11 · 19/04/2011 17:33

I think SamCam looks very glamorous too, even though I think her husband's a div. And Michelle Obama. Give me classic, understated styles rather than "look at me" any time. Everyone is looking at these women anyway, it's hardly like they need to draw attention to themselves like some two bit Big Brother contestant. The fashion industry is full of male and female bitches anyway and they get pissed off if someone famous turns out not to be a clothes horse they can sell collections on the back of.

I got fed up with the stick Cherie Blair received for her appearance- jeez why does every famous woman have to be into clothes? Men don't get the same scrutiny. If I was a female politician I'd be tempted to get men's suits and ties cut for me so I could be as bland as them! But of course that would draw attention in itself.

OrangeBernard · 19/04/2011 17:45

My hands were shaking with nerves on my wedding there is no way I could have done my.own make up

MamaMary · 19/04/2011 19:18

I think she's very pretty. And her hair is lovely.

Jonnyfan · 19/04/2011 20:18

I think she is perfectly lovely; great hair, figure , teeth, skin! She probably dresses a bit more conservatively than her peers, but all quite appropriate and stylish, I think. Don't rate SamCam - too gangly, or Michlle Obama- what's with the frumpy cardies?

PunkPixie · 19/04/2011 20:20

DH and I both think she looks scraggy and unhealthy. Her figure is boyishly unattractive and her hair has lost life in it, probably because of the recent weight lost. Just my two cents but, no, I think she looks bloody awful. DH wants to feed her!

pointydog · 19/04/2011 20:22

Yeah, she looks fine.

I don't understand why some people go on about how beautiful she is and I don't understand why some people go on about how terrible she looks. I think those people just have a few screws loose.

TheOriginalFAB · 19/04/2011 20:23

She is okay but too thin imo.

forehead · 19/04/2011 21:09

I don't think she's beautiful, she's attractive enough but not stunning, which i suppose is fine for a princess.
I was looking at Princess Margaret's wedding photo. She was absolutely STUNNING

DuplicitousBitch · 19/04/2011 21:12

i don't give a shite

DuplicitousBitch · 19/04/2011 21:13

its only a matter of time until she starts looking like a horse and prince charles takes a shine to her
