to think Kate Middleton looks ok?

Am genuinely mystified about the mauling she gets from the fashion press.

I quite like her style... and I also quite like the fact she isn't ostentatiously splashing cash on one-off outfits whilst most other people are counting every penny.

Can't decide if this means I am now officially old and past it or whether the media is misjudging the mood of the country.

Come on guys- what do you look like?

She is a very good looking girl- like a thoroughbred race horse.
People are so critical. Just because she is rich and upper class doesn't mean you should be mean about her.

It reflects the apparent bullying she received at school. I really think some people are bitchey and bullying. It must be so sad to be like this about people all the time- how can you like yourself when you are so unkind- I am talking about some of the acidic comments on here. She is so far from average not that looks are the be all but really i would love to see what some of the posters on here look like-I wonder how Ms middleton would assess your looks? But she is probably far too well brought up to stoop to such bitchery.

It is just so common to be so critical- like a group of fishwives down the 18th century market.

Let's get one thing clear, she's doing William a favour by marrying him, not the other way round. She must really love him to even contemplate to daunting life she has ahead of her.

BugsnBites · 19/04/2011 01:15

If she has an ounce of sense, then after the wedding she'll gain twenty pounds, wear nothing but jeans and t-shirts, wear glasses whether she needs them or not, and immerse herself so thoroughly in terribly serious charity work that she never has time for haircuts or manicures. Because it's the only way the press will ever leave her alone... she needs to bore them to death, and look dully average while doing it.

iscream · 19/04/2011 02:59

A persons looks do not really mean much to me. It is the inner person that counts.

she has a touch of 'Diana' about her... I think she is lovely if a tad toooooo thin

She is coping really well with all the silly scrutiny she is under - people should look in the mirror before seeing fit to judge her

"Let's get one thing clear, she's doing William a favour by marrying him, not the other way round. She must really love him to even contemplate to daunting life she has ahead of her."

Yes, I think that too - I wouldn't swap with her for anything.

flamingtoaster · 19/04/2011 10:08

I think she looks very stylish - and very appropriate given what she is getting in to! If she is actually as nice and balanced as she seems to be then William has made a great choice.

Hammy02 · 19/04/2011 10:16

William seems like a nice enough fella but looks-wise, she is massively out of his league.

breathing · 19/04/2011 10:17

I think she looks awful if im honest. She looks so old.

stillstanding · 19/04/2011 10:22

I think that in the past she wore clothes that were very dowdy and safe but then I guess she had too ... But things do seem to be picking up since the engagement and I think she is looking gorgeous of late! Can't hurt that she gets her pick of clothes to wear ;-)

I love the fact that she wears high-street. I also think it would be amazing if her wedding dress was McQueen as that is a very brave choice indeed. I also read somewhere recently that she is going to do her own make-up on the wedding day .... gotta love that!

BooJonesMummy · 19/04/2011 10:25

Nope you're not. I like her, she's pretty normal looking and she's nice. I don't like the fact that since the engagement she has become incredibly thin. I havn't really read much about her... All I know is I STILL want that blue dress she announced the engagement in.

emsyj I agree. I didn't think Diana was THAT pretty. She was quite plain like Kate.

Would prefer someone plain looking as our queen than someone who resembled Katie Price though. Plain can be good I s'pose.

ssd · 19/04/2011 10:27

I think she's very pretty and always looks nice and normal(ish, for a young good looking girl!, not my normal unfortunatley!!)

Shineynewthings · 19/04/2011 10:59

I think she looks lovely. Her clothes are classic and understated, not old fashioned. She wears fascinators with real panache. I think it's refreshing to see a younger woman dressing elegantly as opposed to the usual 'whats in now' fashion sported by so many celebs etc. I wouldn't like to see her wearing the same clothes as Posh say, as I think royalty should be a cut above.

She's not a great beauty like diana was, but she has a fresh prettiness, is very atrractive and doesn't seem snobby. Shame about her weight though. But frankly she would get an absolute bollocking from the media if she allowed herself to be anything over a size 10. The media are merciless and they might be taking the false concern 'she's so skinny' line now, but I'd bet any money that if she became a size 12 - 14 they'd slaughter her. They did that to Fergie.

turdass · 19/04/2011 11:01

I think she looks thin/groomed/posh - not neccessarily beautiful. Her outfits are appropriate for a future queen however I do remember Diana setting trends eg pedal-pushers/new romantic style which were copied by lots of teeny boppers (I was 10 at the time of the Charles/Di wedding). I cannot see Kate being a style leader in the same way. She has definitely been chosen for her ability to fit in rather than to lead the way or stand out. The Royals obviously had enough of that with Diana and Fergie.

nijinsky · 19/04/2011 11:01

I think she is an attractive young woman and the fashion pack are dying to get their hands on her. I don't think she is too thin - many of the women I run with are much thinner and there is such a trend in Britain now to say people are too thin if they aren't a size 12 or more. At the moment she is still nice and natural and not obsessed with fashion, as Diana became. I rented a flat to her best friend who introduced the happy couple to be, and have never heard anyone say anything bad about her. Its nice to think that an ordinary person is marrying into the Royal Family, in many ways.

Admittedly not a great role model of late but no different in practice to many women, and at least she went to university and got a degree, which is something.

OrangeBernard · 19/04/2011 11:16

There is no way she is doing her own make up on the wedding day.

Mumwithadragontattoo · 19/04/2011 11:18

I think she is is good looking and has a simple, understated, elegant style. Her clothes are on the conservative side but I think that is appropriate for the role she is taking on. In the same way I wear a suit to work as it is appropriate for the job not because it's the most cutting edge thing I can think of.

TandB · 19/04/2011 11:21

What do people want her to do? Have cosmetic surgery to look different? She is what she is - a perfectly attractive-side-of-normal young woman who dresses appropriately for the role she is about to take on.

There is nothing wrong with the choice they have made in loving/marrying each other. Their personal appearances are just part of who they are. It is to be hoped she really is in love with him and they are very happy together, as anything less than that is not going to be worth the constant dissection of her weight/face/hair/clothes.

TandB · 19/04/2011 11:22

x-posted with Mumwithadragontattoo. Good job I deleted the ramblings about wearing a suit rather than cutting edge fashion or that would have been a bit spooky!

stillstanding · 19/04/2011 12:18

I would have thought that too, OrangeBernard.

I read it in Grazia - would post the link but work won't let me access it. I think if you google "Grazia Kate Middleton make up" it comes up.

Probably not true though. I mean why would you put that pressure on yourself?!
