Benefit Bashing

Kendodd · 18/02/2011 16:40

A mum I know and her DP with two children live in a two bed (nice) HA house. Neither of them work and have not worked for as long as I've known them (two years) I don't know about before then. She has told me they are trying for another baby, not to get a bigger house or anything, just because they want four children eventally. I would love four children but can't have that many because for one we just can't afford four.

AIBU to feel a bit pissed off that they can have more children and I can't or am I just a jealous benefit basher.

ps They are both nice and don't have a flatscreen TV.

So be it Second.

StarlightPrincess · 18/02/2011 21:53

Why bring my physical appearence into it? It's completely irrelevant to the topic.

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 21:55

It is only a lifestyle choice for a small minorty Starlight; where you seem to be castigating everyone in the benefits system.

starlightprincess I would take offence, but I just had a peek at your profile pic. Sorry but I can't take you seriously.

LadyOfTheManor · 18/02/2011 21:57

I didn't see a pole?

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 22:00

i shall post no further because i am apparentley not entitled to an opinion. i commited the crime of having a partner who left me and as such has rendered me opinionless. what a filthy scummy waste of skin i am. i really should offer myself up for the stocks so that you all can throw rotten veg at me. although i doubt you would because the likelyhood would be that i might eat said veg and you certainly don't want to be responsible for supporting me in my scummy existence.

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 22:02

appearnace, not relevant, but age is......too young to remember just how shit it was in the 80s for British manufacturing and having to wathc as the govt sold off every single asset that it had to it's name, and young and gullible enough to believe the garbage that comes out of DC's big, rich fat cat gob. He doesn't care a toss about this country; only of lining his own pockets and that of his rather comfortably off tory peers.

StarlightPrincess · 18/02/2011 22:03

I'm really not bothered whether you take me seriously or not, I do object to being called a pole-dancer.

I'm NOT castigating everyone! There are plenty of people who have to live off benefits as they are unable to work. My uncle is a paranoid schizophrenic and it has ruined his life. He deserves every penny of his DLA as his meds leave him practically catatonic.

Parents who care for their disabled children, people who care for their disabled family members, single mothers who have been left with no support for their childrens father- they need this system and I am happy that they have this!
But the people who abuse the system anger me!

StarlightPrincess · 18/02/2011 22:04

FGS- I am talking about people described in the OP!

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 22:06

BFH, don't take it to heart.....

be gladdened that gullible, narrow minded DM readers are in the minority on here Wink

ShirleyKnot · 18/02/2011 22:08

Crispy - It's propaganda really isn't it? The whole "The unions were responsible for the fall of the industires" shit. Maybe the unions were trying to ensure a fair days wage for a fair days work.

Heaven forfend.

A fair days work only equals a fair days pay if you're talking about generating shitloads of "money" (which in itself is an ephemeral thing) by trading various currencies for various billionaires across various currencies, until the bubble finally pops, and then...well, we'll go running back to the governament who we begged to de-regualte our industry and beg them once again for a handout becaue "almost all of our economy is based on the financial sector"

Still, lets keep on blaming the unions from the 70's yeah? Fuck them and their desire for decent working conditions and decent pay.

FUCK THEM.

StarlightPrincess

I think it was this post that triggered BooyFuckingHoo,s post

NoSuchThingAsSociety Fri 18-Feb-11 21:28:55

Anyone who is a net recipient of benefits has nothing of value to add to this thread.

I know that should go without saying but, if any of you are taking more than you contribute, you should know that that alone makes your views irrelevant.

LadyOfTheManor · 18/02/2011 22:09

Didn't people agree to work for an agreed amount? Surely that means they should forfeit their right to demand more money after they were given the job.

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 22:11

My point is that you can not possibly make such a villified judgement of the people described in the OP

there is not enought information given, or even known by the OP to make such sweeping generalisations. the OP has no earthy idea what happened to them two years previously as she has only known them two years; he may have an unobvious disability that means he can't work; she may have crippling MH issues that means without her DH's home support she would be a fucking wreck.

for someone who has experienced unemployment and who claims to have family in the system, you sure are short on empathy.

and it still all blils down to...wtf has it got to do with you? a SAHM who isn't exactly contributing much to the public purse herself at the minute, and who is most probably claiming income support whether it's needed or not?

starlight i wasn't referring to anything you said it was that most insightful post by someone called society something or other. (cant be arsed to go back and look)

CrispyCakeHead · 18/02/2011 22:11

income support child benefit, sorry!

ShirleyKnot · 18/02/2011 22:11

"My uncle is a paranoid schizophrenic and it has ruined his life. He deserves every penny of his DLA as his meds leave him practically catatonic. "

Starlight - you better start crossing your fingers and praying to God that your uncle ain't net.

First they came... and all that.

StarlightPrincess · 18/02/2011 22:12

Well I hope it was because I have not said one bad thing about single mothers on this thread. I have been talking about the people described in the OP and those like them. People would see that if they bothered to read back my posts instead of just assuming that I am lumping everyone into the same box, because I am really not.

OnEdge · 18/02/2011 22:13

Lego Because some people just don't put any money in the pot, and take money from the pot - how are they contributing ?

I rent my house to a lady who has an 8 year old son. Housing Benefit pay all her rent. She receives other benefits. How does she contribute ? She takes takes takes !

Wook · 18/02/2011 22:13

Yes oh and starlight it was this post of yours

'therefore my views are irrelevant because I was feeding myself aged 10 at the expense of truly decent folk such as yourselves.

You said it, not me.'

That made me think you were NOT talking about the people in the OP but in fact being a total wanker generally

Wook · 18/02/2011 22:14

Oh yeah, starlight, I was on free school meals because my single mother became a benefit scrounger when she left my violent father

StarlightPrincess · 18/02/2011 22:15

I'm short on empathy with able bodied and minded people who don't want to work. They exist, regardless of what you say, they do.

BooyFuckingHoo · 18/02/2011 22:15

but as an aside. we dont even know what sort of people the ones in the OP are.

OP has known them 2 years and as far as she knows (so clearly she doesn't know) they are healthy. none of us here is naive enough to believe that al disabilities are visible, nor are they the first thing someone tells you about. so as far as the OP knows isn't really telling us anything is it?

all we know about tehse people is taht they live in a HA house and that the man is doing a course. we know nothing else about tehir situation, past, reasons why tehy dont work, whetehr tehy are looking for work etc. we know none of that yet some of you are more than happy to brand them as lazy, benefit scroungers, wastrels.

on what grounds? based on nothing but the fact that they live in HA housing.
