AIBU Books Game Part Eight

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/11/2010 12:49

Post an AIBU from the point of view of a fictional character (from novels/nursery rhymes/plays etc) and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please :)

AIBU to be protective of my DD?

Moomin I cheated so I can't :(

Thanks for the background: I am bound to post something you've had a dozen times soon so do let me know when that occurs.

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/12/2010 22:52

Ooh, cheating by Google is fine. We all resort to it and when we get desperate to be relieved of obscure AIBUs we drop very heavy hints indeed.Wink

And repeats are fine too. It's fun to see how differently we all do them but a tad shameful when we don't spot one we've already done ourselves!

Sometimes we even do the same book at the same time. But this is a rare and a bit Twilight Zone.

I don't know yours Moomin, but I want to go and buy it today if possible, so - more clues? Please?

And Pogle's too...

...Yes I'm a boy, and my friend seems to be stuck looking at the world like a little kid, whereas I see it all as it really is. Not all flowers and kindly grannies. I'm happy on my sled, alone...

PointlessTheLamb · 04/12/2010 10:50

Morning, collective Mummies!

Pogleswood · 04/12/2010 10:59

Pointless! Welcome back,sweetie!

(you do realise that deciding gender on the basis of quality of eyelashes is risky, don't you? In my vast experience, men have much longer, thicker and more beautiful eyelashes than women Grin)

...they did warn me,but surely a girl should be able to go where she wants without worrying about an unwanted pregnancy?...

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/12/2010 12:56

Pointless! Hooray! Welcome home!

What you say about eyelashes is very true, Pogle. I spent years grumbling DH's long curling lashes were wasted on him.Envy Then he passed them on to DD.Smile

...I do miss Pfaffenstein but working for the International Opera Company is such fun. And now it seems a nice Englishman wants to buy the palace for his bride-to-be so we'll actually have some money again...

And NIMCP!

Unrulysun · 05/12/2010 19:11

Pogleswood you're not going to drink bleach are you? Tell us more - is it you that's in the family way? Does he know?

Pogleswood · 05/12/2010 22:00

Bleach? What on earth is that? All I've been doing is picking roses!
Yes,I am expecting - he wants us to keep the baby....

(Now I'm wondering where the drinking bleach comes from!)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 09:01

Moomin - are you sure she's the right woman for him? He wouldn't prefer someone...closer to home and with much shorter hair, say?

NI on your pregnant rose-picker, Pogle...oh oh hang on, are you on the fairytale thread? Xmas Grin If you're Janet YA so NBU to want to take him away from her, but you might have to put up with him turning cold as ice and into all kinds of nasty things first.

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 06/12/2010 09:42

Bleach = Eva Smith in An Inspector Calls. Rather dramatic bless her but then it's hard being a living metaphor for the masses.

And Elephants if you are right I am lost despite having done an u/g dissertation on fairytales. :(

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 09:46

If I'm right then the "she" in question is not to be messed with as shes the queen of the fairies, and would rather like to drag our hero off with her...

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 09:46

(oooh a dissertation on fairy tales? wow. What did you write about?)

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 06/12/2010 10:47

Ahhhhhh - ill met by moonlight?

I did an analysis of feminist revisions of fairytales and concluded that fairytales were big enough and hard enough to take care of themselves thank-you very much.

As an aside to which has anyone read Eskimo fairytales? Filthy...

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 11:23

have you seen this thread? And if not, why the hell not? Xmas Grin

Not the moonlight one. Still waiting to be told I am wrong though.

OP posts:
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 11:24

(already mentioned the filthy inuit fairy tales on there - have you been reading Virago?)

OP posts:
Unrulysun · 06/12/2010 16:02

Oooooh thanks for that!

Virago indeed - not sure how you'd do those as an AIBU. 'AIBU to use my clitoris as a sled?' 'AIBU to construct a sexual partner from blubber?'

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 06/12/2010 16:26

I know! Was thinking about Virago earlier "AIBU to wish my mother wasn't a lion?" "AIBU to be thinking about murdering my brother on our wedding night?" Shock

...luck I'm not such a baby as my friend, or I might have been frightened when that person in the furs towed my sled out into the snowy wilderness...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 06/12/2010 22:50

Evening! Of course you are right,Elephants - you win your very own elfin knight complete with original grey eyes! Xmas Smile

I was enjoying the fairytale thread, but I don't think I am up to Inuit fairytales,if the examples above are typical!

MCP!

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/12/2010 10:17

oh lovely , always quite fancied a bit of Tam Lin. Janet is a great character too, rescuing her damsel dude in distress even whilst pregnant.

...I was wrong, the fur clad sledge driver wasn't a man, it was a woman. I felt quite differently after she kissed me, like I couldn't feel the cold any more...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 07/12/2010 17:19

Evening all!

Hmm, have you had a spot of bother with splinters from a mirror, Elephants? You might be grateful for your old pal, if so.

I've got that Virago anthology with the frisky Inuit fairytales too!Grin I don't the Victorians could have coped with sanitising them.

AIBU to watch over the boy?

CJCreggnog · 07/12/2010 17:23

I have no idea what anyone is talking about, but do you like my Christmas name? Xmas Grin

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/12/2010 17:27

Bee-yoo-ti-ful, CJ!

Now I might have to change mine after all.Xmas Grin

...He's going to need guidance so I've got to stick around...

CJCreggnog · 07/12/2010 17:29

Thanks, Moomin!

Are you a wise, ancient mentor-type?

MoominMymbleandMy · 07/12/2010 17:46

...I'm very wise and I mean him to learn everything I know. But I wouldn't say I was ancient...
