She came home from first day in Y1 at (Greater London) school yesterday and said "Teacher arksed me"...

ShockShock

My inner pedant is appalled.

DH's reaction is to want us to move "back" to his neck of the woods so she grows up speaking proper, like. Is he over-reacting? Wink

mumbar that is why we moved.

I might lobby mn for the disputed territories of Hampshire local page as I think we are all too special to align ourselves with either Southampton or Portsmouth.

sharbie · 10/09/2010 20:58

yh why not Smile

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 20:58

MrsDinky lived in Alton 1995-2002ish. Used to work at Treloars... Still have lots of friends down there.

I always thought Alton people associated themselves with either Basingstoke or Farnham (if aspirations of poshness). Think the Pompy/Saints thing has it's origins in football doesn't it...

HeathcliffMoorland · 10/09/2010 20:58

YANBU. I live In cork, Ireland. The things they say after playschool would have my very proper grandmother turning in her grave!

mumbar · 10/09/2010 20:59

Ah Mrs you worked at Tealoars?? What did/ do you do are you still in Special Educational Needs??

HeathcliffMoorland · 10/09/2010 21:00

Sorry, meant hinbu....

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 21:15

I'm a speech and language therapist Mumbar. Are you involved in special ed then?

mumbar · 10/09/2010 21:17

yeah!!! What PCT you work for?? Could we know each other? Wierd!!

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 21:21

Ooh, maybe we do? I don't work for a PCT though. I was at Treloars for about 10 years, which is independent of the NHS. Now I do a bit of private work, and run groups for early years. Whereabouts are you?

mumbar · 10/09/2010 21:23

Special school so and our speech therapists are all NHS employed so you won't cover my school.

Maybe some early years groups that our pupils come from tho??

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 21:31

Probably not - what I do is parent/child activity group type thing now. Not therapy, apart from a little bit of private stuff here and there. We may have had links with your school though if in Hampshire too? Are you an SLT?

jetgirl · 10/09/2010 21:45

sharbie definitely should be a Shirley thread -lets start one. We can have meetups in sainsburys cafe and drink bad coffee [grin!]
I wouls say fareham is portsmuff but I have forgiven my good friend for moving there (well whiteley) from Southampton. To be fair, she was living in st marys so an improvement was in order!

GuntherMcKilocodie · 10/09/2010 21:53

I'm from Fareham too and cringe at the accent when I go back to see my parents. 'Loike', 'I doos', 'W'minit'(wait a minute!) all from my Mum...
Wonder If I know MrsMD as used to also commute from Fareham to Portsmouth Grammar.

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 21:57

Oooh really? I was there 1985-1992. Had lots of friends at the Grammar. Used to sneak into your 6th form common room when your very strict teachers weren't watching!
