She came home from first day in Y1 at (Greater London) school yesterday and said "Teacher arksed me"...

ShockShock

My inner pedant is appalled.

DH's reaction is to want us to move "back" to his neck of the woods so she grows up speaking proper, like. Is he over-reacting? Wink

Yup had burgers from PH too!

solomanswife · 10/09/2010 20:17

As long as your DD doesn't utter every sentence with a question mark at the end she'll get on in life.

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/09/2010 20:19

ah I'm just jealous sharbie, apparently it was groovy, far out and really happening Grin

SlightlyJaded · 10/09/2010 20:20

I don't think it's the area so much as your immediate influences. We live in v.'naice' place near Richmond. I was brought up to speak 'proper like' but DH was brought up in central London (Marylebone) and has a London accent. DD goes to a local school where most of the children speak excellent English, including most of her friends. However she adores and emulates her daddy and consequently has taken to speaking with flat vowels and occasionally telling us to 'jog on'... She's 5 Hmm

mumbar · 10/09/2010 20:22

Oh Micks burgers - yep still there.

LOL at S'ton local v's Pompey. Still wonder which one I belong to as in Fareham. Depends on which way up the M27 I go Grin

Yes Tesco's is officially under construction !!

sharbie · 10/09/2010 20:24

he he twas something like that chute - i saw new order play there once.god only knows what they were doing there.

loolop · 10/09/2010 20:24

Mrs dinky-yes it's been started-booo! Still no sign of the debenhams nr bhs but apparently next coming soon by m&s. Better than the hideous family bargains that dominates now!

And micks-mmmmmm!

emmyloulou · 10/09/2010 20:24

Fareham = Portsmouth as your postcode is PO Wink

SlackSally · 10/09/2010 20:25

Mumbar: Fareham is definitely Southampton, and Gosport is definitely Portsmouth.

No question.

myredcardigan · 10/09/2010 20:26

I think Hampshire is one of those counties where the North and South are very different.

People living in the villages near the Surrey border such as Rotherwick, Hook, Odiham and Hartley Wintney would not align themselves with Portsmouth at all.

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/09/2010 20:26

we could have a fight to decide which local page Mumbar belongs too.

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 20:26

Noooooooo. Fareham = Portsmouth.

For definite.

sleepingsowell · 10/09/2010 20:28

Gosport is definitely portsmouth!

cor, you may have started a war with that remark! No love lost between the two places, each thinks the other is the scuzziest place on earth (along with Southampton of course) Wink

Having lived in Portsmouth for about 35 years and (near) Gosport for the last 5, I can report that........

Portsmouth is deffo scuzzier!

MrsDinky · 10/09/2010 20:28

One of my friends has got a job in Next, says it's opening this month. I always used to park in those car parks on the derelict bit of land where I suppose Tesco is going now, cheaper than the one behind the cinema. The traffic must be horrednous round there with construction?

To my shame my DCs were born into an SO postcode.......

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/09/2010 20:28

Actually I'm in Hedge End now and don't want to associate myself with oiks from Southampton anymore. Perhaps there should be a disputed Hampshire territories local page?

MrsMellowdrummer · 10/09/2010 20:28

Tis true myredcardigan. We used to live in Alton, so very much in that area, and now being up here on the Hants/Berks border, I think that's different again.

loolop · 10/09/2010 20:30

Fareham is PO but so is whiteley and that comes under winchester borough council. Think I'd have to concede that fareham=Portsmouth tho!

mumbar · 10/09/2010 20:31

I'm on Pompey one but wondering if I could join S'ton as well. Could be a MN5 member!!!! and spy Wink

Fight Fight Fight Grin

Grin Family bargins!! Like we need another cheapy shop in town, next and primark are coming but I think Debenhams has been scrapped for now?

Red cardigan swings and roundabouts really as the southern part of hants had plenty of quaint villages.

As does the North, but Hook, Odiham etc are closer to Basingstoke, which can be just as interesting as Portsmouth........

myredcardigan · 10/09/2010 20:32

Mrs MD, I always thought the Hants/Berks border was The Meadows! Wink Grin

dustycups · 10/09/2010 20:32

mumbar dont you dare go to the dark side, you r a pompey mum!!!!!!

ChutesTooNarrow · 10/09/2010 20:36

I'm really bloody jealous Pompians (I think I just made that up) have the Krispy Kreme cafe in the Cosham Tesco. Make trips to see the Pompey in-laws something to look forward to.

Speaking of Alton I was a member of Alton Trampoline Club. Anyone else?

sharbie · 10/09/2010 20:36

chutes - you're about 5 miles from meeeeeee

mumbar · 10/09/2010 20:37

LOL at the Dark Side!!! I work with lots of people from Titchfield, Locks Heath etc all SO post codes so I'm a bit of a trator already Wink

SO postcode starts about 1-2 ish mile up the road from me!!!
