Do you want to spend a day at Dyson HQ learning about allergies (and get a free Dyson Allergy vacuum cleaner?)

Hi there

Dyson want to invite five Mumsnetters who have children who suffer from asthma and/or dust allergies to visit their HQ in Wiltshire on Tuesday 9th September. During the course of the day the Dyson microbiologists will examine a sample of your dust to let you know what's lurking in your carpets and offer advice and tips on how to keep allergens at bay. Dyson will cover any transport costs and give you a Dyson Allergy vacuum cleaner for your troubles

All Dyson ask in return is that you come back and tell everyone else on Mumsnet all about your new-found dust busting tips later in September.

If your family fit the allergy bill, you know you're free on the 9th and fancy a day out and a new Dyson - you can sign up here

Best

Have just sent my NBF, Camilla (from Dyson), an email to ask if we get our shiny hoovers Dysons on the day or not.

Don't think I fancy lugging it on the tube. Also got a teachers meeting that night and would be a bit emarassing taking it with me straight from the tube!

desperatehousewifetoo · 08/08/2008 22:00

Oh ToughDaddy, come and give mine a test drive. In fact, if I could get a mumsnetter to come each week it would be fab

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/08/2008 22:04

That is a jolly good idea Dhwt

desperatehousewifetoo · 08/08/2008 22:09

I am just a generous soul!

Off to bed though as my parents computer is soooo slow that getting veeery annoyed. What do you expect in the sticks though!

Night...

MrsBadger · 08/08/2008 22:20

Littleduck, I've posted the pattern for the pram bag on the other thread - it's so simple it was quicker to type it than faddle around CATting, emailing etc

only downside is you can't really use it with a carseat / buggy harness as there's nowhere for the buckle. Great in a pram though.

callmeovercautious · 08/08/2008 22:21

I will meet at Paddington. Have to come into Kings Cross then Tube.

Must register for CAT so I can contact you all

I am ridiculously excited about this

I could invite all my local MNetters around for a testing day (great excuse to get others to hoover this hovel house

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/08/2008 22:32

Marvellous cmc! Will sort arrangements closer to the date then, yes? Gives you time to set up CAT etc.

callmeovercautious · 08/08/2008 22:33

Yep VVVQV - will sort it over the weekend and CAT all the winners on here to organise meeting if poss.

ToughDaddy · 08/08/2008 23:10

DHT- thanks, just think of me when the Dyson man is describing the microscopic creatures in the dust

ToughDaddy · 08/08/2008 23:12

Beware, it's a "stepford" conspiracy to give us all the same appliances.

MrsBadger · 08/08/2008 23:20

If the Dyson man is the one I think he is, I remember when he dropped a pint of horse blood on the floor of our lab

it looked like a Tarantino movie

they were the days

callmeovercautious · 08/08/2008 23:28

I sense a bit of jealousy creeping in from toughdaddy and MrsBadger

Tell me more about the blood!

MrsBadger · 08/08/2008 23:35

I am a bit jealous but am not allergic to anythign except one type of eye drop.

er
it was a pint of horse blood
in a glass bottle
it went everywhere - up the walls, the cupboards, our white coats...

ToughDaddy · 08/08/2008 23:40

enter the dyson machine to mop it all up right? so predictable. I just hope it isn't a sunny day and that you don't get stuck in traffic on the M4

MrsBadger · 08/08/2008 23:50

nope

paper towels and our own fair hands (this was in pre-Dyson days)

ToughDaddy · 08/08/2008 23:52

show was he then inspred to go off and invent the Dyson?

TheOldestCat · 09/08/2008 17:35

Hallo again!

I can meet y'all at Paddington too - I'll be coming from lovely Lewisham.

I'm ridiculously excited too!

Looking forward to meeting you.

elesbells · 10/08/2008 07:13

Meeting at paddington sounds good for me.

Has anyone thought of how we are all going to look coming home on the train with our dysons?

callmeovercautious · 10/08/2008 23:14

Still not sorted the CAT out but I will promise.

I suspect the Dysons will be couriered after we attend.

I have emailed telling them where I am coming from so when I get tickets I will let you all know what time I will be at Paddington. I would think they will put us all on the same train if they are picking us up the other end.

misdee · 10/08/2008 23:19

can you lovely people who are going do me a big big favour?

can you ask how long it takes to clear dog skin, fur etc after a dog has been living soemwhere? we are moving soon, as previous people have a dog, and am worried about dd1 and her allergies?

am planning of clearing the upstiras of all carpets the day we move in and replacing the flooring to ease wheeziness.

TheOldestCat · 11/08/2008 11:49

Of course we will, misdee.

desperatehousewifetoo · 11/08/2008 17:32

I haven't had a reply from Camilla yet regarding when we get our shiny dysons but, if they can deliver them afterwards, I'll def come by train with you all too.

They may even book our tickets for us so we can all sit together and that might make re-imbursement easier. One message I had from them implied they would do so.

My mil is coming to look after the school run and dd for the day so I should be able to leave early.

Is it sad that we are all so excited?

TheOldestCat · 11/08/2008 18:03

Oh no, not sad at all. Definitely not sad. Nope.

callmeovercautious · 11/08/2008 19:13

Misdee - TBH I would get the downstairs ones cleaned. You can hire cleaners but they are not as good as a professional clean. Alternatively lots of going over with a Vax if you have one (or can borrow one?) May take quite a few goes though.

I will add it to my list of things to ask as well so we don't forget.

Camilla seemed to imply that they would book the train for us.
