Do you want to spend a day at Dyson HQ learning about allergies (and get a free Dyson Allergy vacuum cleaner?)

Hi there

Dyson want to invite five Mumsnetters who have children who suffer from asthma and/or dust allergies to visit their HQ in Wiltshire on Tuesday 9th September. During the course of the day the Dyson microbiologists will examine a sample of your dust to let you know what's lurking in your carpets and offer advice and tips on how to keep allergens at bay. Dyson will cover any transport costs and give you a Dyson Allergy vacuum cleaner for your troubles

All Dyson ask in return is that you come back and tell everyone else on Mumsnet all about your new-found dust busting tips later in September.

If your family fit the allergy bill, you know you're free on the 9th and fancy a day out and a new Dyson - you can sign up here

Best

I've entered. Hopefully will get a chance to ask the experts if their product really will help. There is so much conflicting evidence, not enough exposure to dust and allergens, too much exposure. Also strangly interested to know what dust contains other than skin and mites.

salsmum · 03/08/2008 00:16

My God some of you mumsnetters are really being SUCKED IN by this offer
MITE I suggest that you stop SNIVELLING n SNEEZING you DUST yourselves off, stop scraping samples off your bedroom carpets and stand UPRIGHT next to the ironing board.
of course I will let you all know in due time if I am, in fact, the WINNER!!
P.S. does the 'said chosen few' have lady fingers buffet lunch provided on the day or do we/they have packed lunch of marmite sarnies?? .

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/08/2008 00:19

oooh me me me!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 03/08/2008 00:31

Am I to put qualifying reasons/begging on here too or is that not an actual requirement?

Ah well...75% of my family have dust/pollen allergies and asthma. DD has eczma, severe asthma, and varying allergies ranging from foods, to animals, to pollen, to...goodness knows what!

Please please please can I come and learn about Super Dysons please and have one of your magical fantastic amazing vacuum cleaners that I couldnt afford otherwise?

I love you so very much.....

MeMySonAndI · 03/08/2008 13:24

Another here begging for some advcice...

Are there any places still available? With a DS with a an allergy to house dust that "scores" >100 on RAST tests (which manifests itself in asthma and eczema), and a couple of dogs sadly living confined to textile-free areas of the house,I would be very happy to participate in this test.

I have tried most "allergy" vacuum cleaner models and although I´m a Miele Solution convert I would be interested to see if Dyson can convert me back to their ranks. (and could provide me with some advice on how to optimise the use of the vacuum cleaner as I´m one of those sad persons for which vacuum cleaning includes vacuuming the walls regularly...

VanillaPumpkin · 03/08/2008 19:50

I am up for the Pet special too. I have the hairiest house ever thanks to my ddog.

CamillaDyson · 04/08/2008 14:28

Lunch will of course be included. And if anyone has any foodie allergies then please let me know in advance...!!

youcannotbeserious · 04/08/2008 14:46

Oooh... I'm allergic to cheese / dairy... but otherwise OK... when do we find out if we've been invited????

I'd love to find 'middle ground' between the very hairy dog and the non hairy DH!

fifibb · 06/08/2008 15:50

I challenge anyone - ANYONE - to invent a gadget that will put an end to my snivelling, sneezing, itching and - worst of all - wheezing caused by those little buggers that invisibly infest my house, despite my exhaustive attempts at cleaning (complete with gas mask). Assorted doctors have been no bloody help whatsoever and I'm seriously considering moving to the north pole where it is too cold for mites. So come on Dyson, show me what you're made of!

desperatehousewifetoo · 07/08/2008 12:10

Have just signed up.

Where is Dyson HQ? Hoping it's in the Bahamas

Don't think my dh will mind me learning about hoovering on our wedding anniversary, do you? Does the dyson come gift wrapped?

Bit about taking sample of dust. Would be very difficult to find in my house, actually!!

AnnMumsnet · 07/08/2008 18:53

Hi everyone, I have just emailed those who were selected for this day - but wanted to say to everyone who volunteered thank you very much for this - we were impressed with the response - and it was very hard to choose the 6 (Dyson increased the numbers to 6).

Please do keep an eye out on MN for Dyson info because after the visit those who attend will be giving their feedback for you to discuss.

Thanks again

PS Dyson HQ sadly not in the Bahamas but Wiltshire.....

desperatehousewifetoo · 07/08/2008 20:59

Oh and had my suitcase all packed for the bahamas

Just as well I wasn't picked then
