Surprise dairy & egg free finds - join me in making a list?

Hi -

I'm new to the whole allergy thing (DS is 15 months old & allergic to milk & eggs). As he's getting older I'm starting to appreciate how limiting it is and how lovely it is when he can have an off-the-shelf item that everyone else is having. So, I thought I would start a thread where we could list surprise finds we've came across (or in my case, that MN have pointed me towards!).

My (very short) list:

• shop bought puff pastry (read this in a thread the other day. A revelation! And just in time for my nephew's birthday party!)
• jammie dodgers (ditto!)
• Nairns Dark Choc Chip biscuits (made in factory handling milk)
• Sacla tomato & garlic stir in sauce
• Sacla Char-Grilled Aubergine Pesto
• Cauldron aduki bean kiev (salty though!)

Anyone like to share their finds?

Ooo thanks DD2 never tried that so might pick it up and see.

She loves Kara milk. My mum found a dairy free advent calendar in Asda yesterday so will be purchasing one of them today.

Aldi dark choc reindeer are milk free. They have twinings drinking choc for £1.99 and thats milk free too.

Just a warning about the jus rol pain au chocolat, DS reacted to it. I think it was probably the chocolate as he has been fine with the croissants and the garlic bread and the dough seems to be the same.

I found some kinnerton dairy-free chocolate lollies in Asda yesterday too.

Asda value garlic bread
Yorkshire tea marmalade loaf cake is DF, as are Tesco value fairy cakes.

Morrisons do flapjacks in a pack of 5 in the instore bakery section, 5 of them for a £1. Dairy free. And delicious.

tesco free value cake have eggs in and possibly the Yorkshire tea cake?

Just marking my place.

Both cakes have eggs in, DS is only milk allergic, I was just happy to find nice cake he could have.

thanks everyone for keeping this forum going it great to know there are a few things out there for me , I can't eat wheat/gluten, oats, and dairy, so not always easy for holidays goodies

Love hearts (i can't find any warning or in the ingredients for dairy, soya, egg, nuts, wheat or gluten) 1st on the list is sugar so maybe not an everyday treat. (am happy to be told other but i couldn't find an info online) when i looked the ingredience here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_Hearts are not the same that on my packet and no modified starch or E numbers on my packet

9bar pumpkin bar (tesco's & asda have them) (free from gluten,dairy,lactose,wheat,egg,yeast,preservative, artifical colours) no nuts but is in a factory that handles nuts including peanuts.

i also love kara coconut milk
Hazelnutmilk is also good as an alternative drink

just a note about Mrs' crimble products the one i looked at are made on a line that also uses milk, but not in the products, (I don't have a reaction with them and i can and sometimes do eat a whole packet of coconut rings in a sitting.

I noticed today that Morrisons free from cornflakes is cheaper that tesco's cornflake. (didn't get a chance to look at ingredient)

tesco sell trufree pretzels (no dairy, gluten, wheat,egg warning or ingredience mentioned)but it has a warning for soya and sesame seeds

asda smartprice lightly salted tortilla chips (maize flour , sunflower oil, salt), (no dairy, wheat, egg warning or ingredience but it has a may contain nuts and /or seeds )

M&S have boxes of orange cream chocolates which are dairy/egg free. After dinner dark chocolate and Florida orange creams I think.

Aldi (classy girl) have mint thins that are dairy free. Their normal stollen at £1.99 is dairy free too.

I tried the croissants from jus rol. I didnt like them

I ate two packs to make sure I didnt like them.

Am with you on the croissants unfortunately but the pain au chocolate makes up for it. Just back from Sainsburys and they have mince pie puffs which are dairy & egg free (but do have the "not suitable for.." warning which DS is fine with but I know others aren't)

The croissants aren't brilliant if you've had the real deal. Dairy free DS loves them though so I'm delighted.

I havent tried the pain au chocolat yet, I wasnt going to bother but morrisons sell them so I will try it.

trixy an fluffy, sorry havent had a chance to read back in the thread, but just wondering, when you talk about the croissants and pain au chocolate, do you mean you made them yourselves with the jus rol pastry or that you can actually buy ready made ones?

Either way I am desperat to give them a go! My DD absolutely loves pastry and I am keen for her to have more fatty foods so pastry is perfect! They are not perfect for my diet though but would be good for a christmas morning breakfast treat :)

Can I ask, has anyone tried the vegan pizzas from Holland and Barratt? We usually just make a cheese free pizza ourselves which is actually pretty tasty but would be handy to hav pizzas in the freezer, but only if they are decent! Our home made ones are lovely.

Sainsburys have their chocolate coins in again this year. They are milk, egg and nut free. They are not cheap but I bought a couple of bags to put in my DD's stocking.

Asda have a milk, egg and nut free chistmas pudding however it is tiny - just one serving so we havent bothered to get it this year. I dont think that my DD would be too fussed about it. I wish they would make a big one so that we can serve that to everyone. We dont just buy "safe" products" that my DD will eat, we like to buy them for everyone so that, even if my DD isnt eating it, we dont have to worry about crumbs and cross contamination.

harverina they come in a tube. The dough is perforated into triangles and you rip it apart and roll it up. The DC love making them.

I'm going to try and get a vegan pizza to try today, that would be amazing if it's any good.

We had Tesco basic mince pies last night, which are egg and dairy free. They did have a nut warning though.

Yeah I think I will give the pizza a go too...I would have bought them yesterday but I wasn't going home for a while and didnt want them to defrost. They had a couple of varieties too. If you do try them out before me, will you let me know how they are?

I am still searching for a mince pie that is milk, egg and nut free without a nut warning! I usually make my own, but would love to have some on standby that my DD could have too.

So glad I found this thread my LG has a milk intolorance and I'm always worried about.giving her stuff now I have a list of things she can have, and also pom bears we brought from our local Tesco are milk free xx
