Morning all! Went out last night and started with AF beer, then had 3 small glasses of red wine, that, to be honest, I didn't really enjoy and didn't finish the last one. Nearly ordered another AF beer, but all of a sudden we were moving off. Spent a pleasant evening, got in late (don't do late anymore) but woke up not feeling tired.

I'm moving to my son's house for the weekend. They're away for 2 weeks so I'll be cat, fish and chicken sitting. Not having to sleep there all the time, but my closest neighbour asked me if I could babysit for her tonight. I must admit that I did it once and have promised myself not to do it again (the children are very young and unruly, my patience has its limits). I said that I was away for the weekend. So moving out is mandatory to stay on good terms with them. I don't mind helping out for an hour, 2 max, but a whole evening until 02:00, is over my limit.

@Bigbus quoted @Amdone123 about counting total AF days, that's a good idea. Cos going back to day 1 has a "punishment" aspect to me. So I'm going to start a monthly chart (another plan 😉).

@sixthvestibule that's really good! Weight loss is encouraging too. Can't drink whisky anymore. It's strange. Used to like one from time to time. Had a strange allergic reaction to it once and that put me off permanently. Wish wine would have the same effect, that would be so helpful.

@Amdone123 will be testing the AF wine tonight. Will keep you informed. ☝

Hopefully as I'm going to be busy all weekend I shouldn't be nibbling (my other downfall) and normally shall be AF. Must also pick up my sport routines.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend. Stay strong and sober. x

Amdone123 · 17/02/2024 08:49

Morning, all !
Wow, I've woken up to so many positive posts.
@Touty 6 weeks is brilliant, well done. I hope your mood is lifting a bit ?
@Teasie123 well done, too. 12 days is really good.
@Nowstrong I don't blame you having your boundaries, that's great. I wouldn't know how to look after chickens though 🤣

Amdone123 · 17/02/2024 08:52

Sorry @Teasie123 the 12 days was meant for @sixthvestibule but well done you, too for staying af.

I'm nice n fresh this morning, awaiting guests. Also weighed self, 3lb off. So, I'm happy too @sixthvestibule

Coppergate10 · 17/02/2024 09:23

Well done @Nowstrong - hope you enjoy a relaxed weekend pet sitting, good call to escape the babysitting by the sounds of it!

Wow - 3 lbs off is brilliant @Amdone123 ! Well done! Hope you have a lovely day today.

I had a couple of glasses of wine last night but, again, stopped easily and then had a cup of tea. Going to go with no drinking Sun-Thu and then, hopefully, keep up the moderating Fri/Sat. Never know, I may get on a roll with weight loss at some point and then there will be another motivation for avoiding the booze.

I'm feeling a bit more positive now. Making a start on the easy decluttering (out of date paperwork) helped I think...doing anything productive. Hopefully will build on it today.

Now realised I haven't read the previous page properly and can't see it to comment!

Coppergate10 · 17/02/2024 09:25

I see we're both trying to get the house clean and decluttered @MoodyBlues1 ! How is it going?

Bigbus · 17/02/2024 09:28

I had friends round for dinner last night and I did have a few drinks, which was planned, but not as many as I would have had before - these are friends with whom in the past I have got really drunk and embarrassed myself so to wake up in the morning without that sense of ‘what did I I do?’ doom is just such a relief after many years of it. I’m still tracking and still appalled by my units - and still appalled by how many I must have been drinking in the past.

I would really like to be AF today but this will be a struggle because it’s Saturday - no other reason really! I think I’ll take up the advice further up and buy some AF wine - I quite like Nosecco if it’s really cold.

Coppergate10 · 17/02/2024 10:04

Great that you had friends rounds and moderated @Bigbus - hope you enjoyed it. I might copy you and get some Nosecco for this evening too...

Amdone123 · 17/02/2024 10:32

I've never tried nosecco but it was a lifesaver for my friend who had to give up for 3 months.
@Bigbus that's good that you didn't have loads. It's a long time for me since I've woken up to those thoughts - thank god.
@Coppergate10 thanks. Dh is busy cleaning. I let guests accept me and my home for what it is, but dh has more pride than me 🤣

Teasie123 · 17/02/2024 15:40

@Bigbus do you mean that I should try and do 12 days no drinking?

Bigbus · 17/02/2024 15:59

@Teasie123 i think that was @Amdone123 accidentally tagging you when congratulating someone on else on doing 12 days AF. Everyone has different goals. What do you think would suit you at the moment?

Teasie123 · 17/02/2024 16:08

@Bigbus lmao, not a bother. I would normally have a drink on a Friday nite, sat night and on a Tuesday night. So am gonna try not taking a drink til next Friday at least. And hopefully I ll want to just extend it for another week. Maybe do it that way.🤗🤗🤗

Touty · 17/02/2024 23:12

@Amdone123 yes thank you my mental health is better. Thank you for your support and always being here, it is much appreciated xx

Amdone123 · 18/02/2024 05:30

@Touty that's great, keep going - one day at a time.

I ended up drinking, but I'm ok with it.
My guests came with presents galore, so basically 1 glass of champagne and I was off. It doesn't take much. I'd only had breakfast though so I'm up now, eating chocolate and drinking tea.
Supposed to be out today for a family gathering, but I can't face it 🥴

Nowstrong · 18/02/2024 07:50

Morning! Last night did not go as planned. Didn't do any babysitting, that's for sure. My daughter and her family dropped in on me where I was house sitting and we had a few glasses of wine. Not before serving them AF rosé, that they honestly liked. Couldn't help giggling and then owning up to serving them AF. They then asked for a "real" drink and I then joined them for at least 3 glasses of wine.
So I have discovered that this particular rosé AF wine is pretty decent. Will give the red a try too.
Diet wise, not doing too well. Potatoes seem to have overtaken my diet. Have got lots of fresh veggies so will really have to make a bit a of an effort to steer away from the stodge. I'm feeling very bloated.
Tomorrow I've decided that I'm walking up to feed the cats et al. That will at least get me active.
Weather here is miserable but dry. Hope you all have a great Sunday. SSS.

StitchRipper · 18/02/2024 08:03

Ended up drinking more than I intended to last night. Went out to dinner, asked for a small glass of wine, it was on the house due to a fuck up with our table. Asked for a second small glass of wine later on - the bill confirmed it definitely wasn't small. Being honest with myself the first one wasn't small either - so I think I ended up having nearly 500ml of wine, it's hard not to drink it when it's sitting in front of you. And who wants to make a fuss - it was a lovely evening and thankfully my sleep and anxiety weren't affected, need to remember to drink more water.

Touty · 16/02/2024 22:59

Just wrote a long post and lost it. Just to say I’m now six weeks sober xx

Bloody well done!

Amdone123 · 18/02/2024 10:14

@StitchRipper that wasn't too bad. At least your intentions were good.
I went to a restaurant a while back and had 2 large glasses - all I wanted, and they put the remainder of the bottle on the table as apparently it came free. They don't make it easy ! I remember just leaving it, though.

Swannyb · 18/02/2024 10:16

Hi lovelies! How is everyone? I’ve had a quick catch up, well done @Touty 👏🏻 and welcome @Teasie123

So, I’ve only drunk twice this week which is my goal but my food poisoning did slow me down.

I am looking forward to a better week with more energy and to get back into the swing of exercise, good meals etc. so I think I may try for one day of drinks this week. 🤞🏻

😁I did leave a "bit" in the glass.

We employ loads of tricks to slow our drinking down in an attempt to drink less - it's annoying when even with the best of intentions, events can work against you. I'll own it though - I could've sent it back, I could've drank less, I had options - I just took the path of least resistance.
My tally for the week was just 14.5 units despite going out 3 nights in a row, so a far cry from where it used to be.

Bigbus · 18/02/2024 13:36

Well done @StitchRipper that sounds like a reasonable unit total - I am definitely aiming for something like that.

I managed an AF Saturday night despite the fact that there were two open bottles of wine in the house! It was ok, just a bit boring! I do feel much better today though.

Amdone123 · 18/02/2024 18:11

Oh dear - 2 bottles yesterday and verging on 2 today.
I feel crap, yet I'm still doing it.
Family gathering was really lovely, but I needed to drink to get through it. Dh needed petrol on the way home, so I offered to pay, if he got me wine 🥴
£50 for a bottle of wine 🥴

Coppergate10 · 18/02/2024 18:35

Never mind @Amdone123 ! Clean slate tomorrow.

I've already had a glass of wine - four days in a row now, and on a school night!

I don't much care right now as I've finally had a breakthrough with the decluttering (and feet hurt now, medicinal) and feel like a mental load has lifted. Feel like I can go round the whole house now decluttering and cleaning - it is more than that though...really feels like putting a line under the past and making way for the future at long last.

Let's make a pledge to both stay off it tomorrow 😘

Touty · 18/02/2024 22:05

Thanks @Tilllly, how are you doing?

StitchRipper · 19/02/2024 07:58

@Amdone123 sounds like you had a difficult weekend. Monday's are good for new beginnings - how about a good soak in the bath this evening for distraction?

Amdone123 · 19/02/2024 08:09

@StitchRipper yes, it was challenging. I was tempted to hate myself today but I wouldn't hate anybody else ( for drinking too much ! I didn't kill anyone ), so best foot forward today.
The good thing is I don't want next weekend to look like this one, so I'll make a determined effort to have a healthy one.
@Coppergate10 thanks, and I'm glad you're onboard with the decluttering. I definitely will not drink today. I poured the wine down the sink earlier. I'm hoping to do the next 12 days af - it just means not drinking next weekend but I know I can do that, if I put my mind to it.
