New thread for those of us attempting Dry January.

OP posts:
MrsJamieFraser22 · 27/01/2022 19:26

Hi everyone still here & still dry. Had a social event last Sunday but I drove so that curbed any thoughts of drinking. I actually feel January has gone by pretty quick. Will definitely be staying dry until the first weekend of February as no more mid week drinking for me. Might stretch to the second weekend but off on holiday for half term after that so think there will be beer involved. I dobneed to adjust my thoughts from “it’s Friday night so I am having a few drinks” to only having a drink when I want to not because it’s a habit.

@H1Drangea love a bit of wordle - have some healthy couple competition going on with DH.

guineapigs · 27/01/2022 19:32

I have drunken several AF beers today. I have job interview tomorrow and I am nervous and restless.

IJustLovePirates · 27/01/2022 19:42

Hello everyone. I’d gone back to lurking as not managed to complete DJ. I had some drinks at a weekend but still AF during the week. Feel as if I’ve let the team down :(

Still… I’ve had 22 AF days out of 26 days which is more than I’ve had in 15 years. On a night when I had a couple of drinks with friends I was home by 8pm and didn’t carry on drinking which is unheard of for me on a Friday night. On a Saturday I bought the tiniest bottle of vodka available (it was designer and proportionally extortionate) so that I didn’t have a huge bottle in the house. I ignored the insidious little voice telling I should finish the little bottle (it had six standard drinks in it…I had three)

So, just wanted to say thank you for getting me this far…you’ve been inspirational, congratulations to everyone who’s made it and thank you to @MyGhastIsFlabbered for starting the thread.

pointythings · 27/01/2022 20:04

MrsJamieFraser22 I also don't drink during the week, so I'm going to have a nice glass of wine on the 4th and that will be me back to my normal routine. It's gone really fast this year.

Itsnotover · 27/01/2022 20:11

Still dry, here. I'd recommend alcohol free Freixenet for anyone who likes Prosecco.

Hohofortherobbers · 27/01/2022 21:12

Hi dry guys! Still here, still sober. I pulled my back and have been in tremendous pain for the last couple of days despite painkillers, but its improving now. I can't believe how close we are to achieving DJ, it's actually gone a lot more quickly than I expected. Still on the fence about whether or not to continue.

ChangeMustCome · 27/01/2022 21:40

Guinea pigs good luck tomorrow! I am sure you're well prepared and being AF is bound to help!
And we'll done everyone whether you've managed most days or every day!

NorthernChinchilla · 27/01/2022 22:23

All the best for tomorrow guineapigs is the job a big step up, sideways, career change?

Day as as stressful as expected, and then to top it off we've been told DD is unlikely to be assessed till July. AND we thought we might he moving v soon, but a few hours later were told the vendors haven't confirmed the split of the proceeds Sad

We've all done really well, whether it be a 95% reduction in drinking or full AF... no one's letting the team down! Be fascinating to see how we all get on in 2022, and who'll be on the 2023 DJ thread Smile

JaquiRussell · 27/01/2022 23:12

Checking in on day 27 and still dry. I feel like this month has gone really quickly. Will be carrying on into February but have brought some Alcohol Free stuff from the Dry Drinker website for next weekend. They have hosted famous events like Ant McPartlins dry wedding etc due to their quality AF products. I asked on the live chat for the closest thing they had to a pinot grigio 😂 will see how it goes next week 😉

H1Drangea · 28/01/2022 07:41

First things first … good luck @guineapigs with today’s interview

And
Hallo day 28 or 4 weeks done

Tip to the trip planned for today , nowhere near as many glass bottles as we normally have

pointythings · 28/01/2022 08:32

H1Drangea I can't really say the same - but they're posh Fever Tree tonic bottles. Their Clementine tonic is amazing with ginger cordial.

spellingtest · 28/01/2022 09:00

Hi all
I've been flirting between this thread and the other dry January one.
Still going strong with no blips.
Not planning on drinking until next weekend but might give that a miss too as rather liking seeing my dry streak add up on the try dry app.
I think moderating might be harder than just giving up completely.

Floydthebarber · 28/01/2022 11:38

Sigh. Covid again. With this and dh's concussion I am now glad I wasn't organised enough to book dd1s birthday party close to her birthday!

NorthernChinchilla · 28/01/2022 19:26

Evening all. Another stressful day, another Becks Blue.

Have really enjoyed the feeling of being in control over DJ, and it's been so much better for me AND the family.

Decorating and the garden centre beckon this weekend...

CrumpetswithMarmite · 28/01/2022 19:41

Hey all and hello to day 28.

Today has been full-on and also stressful for me too. I've got past the Friday witching hour at least and attempting to wind down. Unfortunately managed to annoy OH this eve so not expecting much from tonight. Leaves me feeling bad/sad!

But I am grateful for being sober and in general being more controlled/calm/resilient. In the past I can see I would've gone down a bit of a downward spiral from today so luckily that hasn't happened!

Sorry to hear of difficult times / covid for those who have shared. Sending hugs and good vibes.

pointythings · 28/01/2022 19:56

Survived a completely bonkers week, last minute enormous project dropped on us Monday and the last bits of required information only turned up 2 pm today - but we're on target to make the deadline and I feel weirdly energised. Put lovely fresh linens on my bed and am having a lie in tomorrow!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 28/01/2022 20:42

Evening all. I feel like crap but still not hot COVID. feel a bit overwhelmed and under appreciated and DH is behaving as though he's the only person to ever have COVID. But not tempted to drink at all. Remembering the mantra 'there is no problem that can't be made worse by alcohol'

Hi everyone- day 32 AF / day 28DJ. Posted a long post but then lost it when I switched away to check something aaarrrggg! Wish MN would automatically keep a draft like FB does.

Anyhoo - reading through posts it seems peeps are generally doing well and some have not been completely AF but have moderated - well done as that is probably harder than being AF!!!

I’d lost about 6 pounds but put it all back on as have been out for brunch/lunch/dinner loads now that we are easing back to normal. Also cakes galore at work now we’re back in the office some days. And last of the. Christmas chocs!! So back on the healthy eating after the weekend and then continue with dry February. Feel sooooo much better when not drinking- but I know I’m still not “safe” from cravings and caving but 🤞.

Hope everyone has a great weekend ❤️💪

Shortkiwi · 28/01/2022 21:45

Day 21 as started late. Managing the cravings/nightly ritual with AF drinks, Becks Blue etc. I would like to carry on indefinitely but don’t know if I will. My husband stopped his dry streak this week but haven’t felt too tempted.

H1Drangea · 29/01/2022 08:29

Saturday again , possibly having a glass of wine tonight as we’re going away for the weekend ( well , one night !the joy of being self employed ) and having dinner out tonight in a restaurant . Such a treat 👍
Looking at the stormy weather I’m not sure how much of a long walk we’ll be doing today though !
Back on the wagon tomorrow

@Mybestyear , I weighed in this morning , half a stone less than January
2nd , very pleased with myself

@MyGhastIsFlabbered hope you’re feeling better today , and that DH makes a speedy recovery from Man Covid

@CrumpetswithMarmite hopefully your evening wasn’t as bad as expected

Have a lovely weekend everyone

SantaMonicaPier · 29/01/2022 08:41

Nearly there! Yesterday was day 29 for me. Not really hard but I haven't socialised much which is when it's more tricky. I agree harder for me to moderate than abstain. I have a couple of nights out on Feb so might see how I get on capping myself to two drinks - and am not adverse to abstaining again if that doesn't work.

NorthernChinchilla · 29/01/2022 09:03

My clothes feel a bit looser as well, though that'll be as much the not eating cheese for breakfast and biscuits for lunch element of Xmas, and getting my walks in Grin

About to start with the clearing and then masking tape prep... thought we'd agreed competition this week but then vendors threw a spanner in the works. At least we'll get the benefit of nicely painted rooms though, looking on the bright side!

Mybestyear · 29/01/2022 12:43

@H1Drangea @NorthernChinchilla 👍👍👍. I’m really trying to set myself sensible targets rather than go on a crazy-bound-to-fail diet. I’m also only weighing myself once a week as daily fluctuations/increases are very demoralising. My alcohol problem has had all my social group feeling sorry for me (in the nicest possible way) which makes me feel shit although I do appreciate why they are and their support. But once spring comes and we are back out of hibernation, I want to wow them and get some pride back, if that makes sense??

KOKO everyone- only 3 more AF days left for the DJers and only 3 more days til the next part of the journey for the DFers (that’s Dry February not Dirty Fekkers 🤣🤣🤣). ❤️💪❤️💪

NorthernChinchilla · 29/01/2022 18:18

Having a hot soak after decorating for 6 hours then doing 3 miles into, round and back from town. And if that sounds too Halo we're getting a takeaway curry feast tonight to last for two days!

Feels weird to think this time next Sat I may be having a drink, not sure how I feel about it...

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 29/01/2022 18:53

Well I've got the dreaded lurgy - 2 positive lateral flow tests. Buggeration.
