Morning all..hope you're all ok. Well I had busy weekend. I didn't quite stick to my plans : I drank Friday evening ( didn't eat), and drank last night, too. I don't feel great today but I am looking forward to having a break. I know I want to get back to being af and all its benefits.
I was thinking that I am able to stay in and not drink. My next step will be going out and not going mad !

Well done on Day 5 @TripleTipplePipple , you're doing really well. @Hohofortherobbers , yep, the minute you say you're not eating/ drinking/ doing something, thee urge becomes stronger. It's definitely a mental exercise.
Well, I'm hungover today ( quite bad) but I promised my dsis I would go to hers today to help with her ds ( another thread, but no way could I bail). We had a lovely day. It didn't really help her ds in the end, but the support was there and she's grateful.
Anyway, despite being hungover, I drank rather a lot - oops. Again.

Morning all. @TripleTipplePipple , yes, I can rest today thank god. After 2 days 'on it', I don't feel great, but I am feeling positive that I can have a good January. So, I'm doing some cleaning etc, some throwing out ( mainly foodstuff ), and I'm going to Spain in a month so I'm going to pack my case !
Then I'll have a rest.

@Buntyforgirls , you can do it. One day at a time is the best approach for me. I guess it's day 1 for me, too, so I'll join you.
I am out Wednesday for a bottomless brunch for a friend's special birthday, but I've just opted for the af version. It's best since I'm working Wednesday afternoon 🤣

Morning! So I slept 12 hours last night and only surfaced at 10am. I really needed that, I can never sleep well having had a drink so it's an instant reward for day 1. Looking forward to filling in my mood and sleep dyary on the app later and seeing the fast improvement. I'm taking the dc to a skate park now then booked in for a gym class later, haven't been to gum for provably 8 weeks, will check in this evening. Have a lovely day everyone.

Morning all. Hope you're all well.
Day 2 here and I'm happy to be on the wagon. I've nothing planned ( apart from the af bottomless brunch tomorrow) so that should make it easier.
It's awful weather here - I'd like to say I woke up to it, but I slept really badly. I'm in danger of becoming depressed so I've made some plans ( af and healthy eating), to keep me positive.

love to hear how everyone’s getting on! @Amdone123 well done on day 2, and good thinking with some plans! I think Jan can be so miserable if we don’t plan a little!
@Hohofortherobbers and @TripleTipplePipple you both sound in good spirits and like your enjoying a health kick!

all well here! Day…. 4!!!! And finding it fine! Am on my diet and moving mission so that’s keeping me busy! Weekend will be my tricky but but I just keep going for all the reasons we all already know!

Blimey @Hohofortherobbers that all sounds veryproductive! I've had a clear out today too amongst having the kids home playing around me but it's gone well, very satisfying.

@Amdone123 weather is awful here too but good to hear you're making plans, I think it really helps to have a focus.

@Mj20 good idea to keep busy, it definitely helps, both food and alcohol wise. I'm on Day 7. I've been thinking a lot about wine but so far have resisted. I think next weekend will be difficult but will cross that bridge when I get to it!

Hope everyone else is getting on ok and enjoying getting back to normal life

Well done for your positive starts everyone. Another productive day here and another gym session, my legs are killing me... In a good way. Slept well again last night and my wellness measures on the app reflect that. Still had the odd twang today, walking past m&s in the late afternoon.. Would often pop in for a bottle, driving past tesco on way back from the gym, would often pop in for a bottle. Watching the new James bond, he drinks constantly!! I notice every drink he has. Seeing alcohol or thinking alcohol seems to alight something in me, almost like a circuit being completed. Looking forward to that fading. I remember doing my 100 days off drink in 2021 I think it was and alcohol had really left my daily thoughts by then. I'm constipated too! Without the usual stimulant of a heap of booze my bowels are sluggish!

Hi all (previous sober Oct) just catching up with the thread still got some posts to go but wanted to say hi and sounds like most of you are doing fantastic! Surprisingly on Christmas day I drove everywhere so didn't actually drink until later on just wasn't up for it but then I did over do it I think until 11pm same as NYE fell asleep by 11 and left half bottle of prosecco and red wine unheard of! So I'm on my dry Jan stint but it's my birthday this weekend and lots.of friends in a pub....so when I've gone out before and watched my friends get tipsy and 'fun' I've been quite annoyed and tired and want to get home asap!!!!! Happy new year all xxx

@Soberjan , hi again. Sounds like you coped with the festivities well enough. We're all having a crack at dry Jan here so you're in the right place. Your birthday sounds like it'll be tricky. Do you have a plan ?
@Mj20 , @TripleTipplePipple you're both on a mission, keep going. It's not bothering me at the moment and I'm optimistic for the weekend. I love an af weekend. I'm walking Sunday and leaving my cards / purse at home as if I pop into a shop, I can end up purchasing, @Hohofortherobbers , I know what you mean - if I see someone drinking on TV, it can trigger me, even if I'd not even wanted a drink previously. And, I have always found that when I'm eating 'normally' and not abstaining, I'm as regular as clockwork but the minute I start eating healthily, I can go a few days.

Oh, strangely, I weighed myself yesterday and was 4lb lighter than just before Xmas ( 23rd I last weighed). I can't understand it. But I'll take it 🤣.
And the dreams - more like nightmares.
I'm blaming the menopause.
Bottomless brunch cancelled. Thank god. I wasn't going to drink anyway but still, I don't need any temptation.

@Soberjan hello!!!! January birthdays are so annoying (mines late Jan) and I feel it’s an added pressure! But @Amdone123 is right you defo need a plan for that one!!!!
@Amdone123 well done on the lower weight!!!! I can’t wait to see the numbers go down for me!!! And well done on how motivated you are to do this!!! All sounds fab!
annoyingly I’m feeling unwell…. I woke up with a temp in the night…. And feel achey and then couldn’t sleep!!!!! Helpful for AF, not so helpful for my step goals… but I’m going to prioritise resting today to get well soon!

Hi @Amdone123 wow well done on the weight loss ! That is something at back of my mind for for now its not drinking every day ! I had a really bad day at work today and was super stressed and my main thought as I was rushing around like a blue arsed fly here there and everywhere was like this is why I need wine in my life but then I ended up getting kids and getting late home and making dinner etc etc and by now its late so my witching hour is usually around 330-5pm so I think I dont need anything but food and chocolate! I don't know what to do about my birthday any suggestions? I was going to drink but don't feel like breaking my stint either...@Mj20 have you any plans for your birthday coming up? Are you hoping to do dry jan and then some more? Sorry to hear you are not well theres been a bugger of colds going around recently, I had it just before christmas and it was not pleasant so lots of hot lemon honey and resting and you can make up the steps later! How many are you aiming for a day once you are better? I go to the gym but realistically 2-3 times a week and I dont do much haha

@Soberjan , hi. Have you already arranged to meet friends in the pub for your birthday? If it's already arranged and something you want to do, then I would 1) make sure I eat before I go out 2) set a limit for wine, if that's what you're drinking ( I'm ok on 1 bottle - any more, it's all downhill ). I then drink beer as it doesn't affect me *3) dance and enjoy !
I know what you mean when you say you get stressed and it's something to look forward to. I wish I could drink and it not affect me ( mood and all the rest), but unfortunately it does.

  • I just read that you don't want to drink. If that's the case, I wouldn't. I have been out with friends and not drank, and was so proud of self. Apologies if this reply is haphazard. I'm laid up in bed ; my back went this morning. I've decided I officially hate January ( actual month nothing to do with my back but my being depressed is ! ).

@Amdone123im open to drinking it's just I think if I've done this good considering I was drinking every single day bar one or 2 since last June that's saying something ! DH also doing dry Jan with me thank fuck but he said oh just tell everyone you are doing dry Jan...but I feel like I don't know what the hell I want so you weren't wrong thank you so much for the tips I might use them! Yes already arranged to go to the pub area booked and all. I'm going with some friends but I'm not close to them all just a few...I went to one of their birthday not long ago and drove but had 2 but then the rest were drinking away so I made my excuses and left early but felt like that wasn't me if that makes sense! Argh I'm so sorry to hear about your back! Back pain is awful I've been laid up in the past and it's not fun and I agree about Jan even though it's birthday month !!!

I'm good here, serious aches from my gym sessions but in a good way. I'm guzzling drinks all evening, pints of sparkling water and cordial, milk, herbal teas. Hitting the quality pretty hard too, getting my sugar fix. Off to bed early now. Goodnight

Hi @Hohofortherobbers nice to hear from you! Good you are aching I never ache from the gym which says a lot!! I cycle for about 40 mins and burn off one slice of pizza lol bottomless brunch sounds fab when you are drinking ! I also ate but now am hungry again probably the sugar coming out from the drink so I am wanting it but for the first time I didn't want the booze tonight it's like good riddance I'm not sure what Saturday will bring I'm worried about it ..

Morning everyone!!! how are we all!!!?? Day 6 for me and luckily no temptations between work and being ill!
Lots of lovely positive msgs to catch up on!!!!
so I’m feeling lots better than I was- thank god! I had a really vile flu like virus before Xmas so was shocked to be unwell again, but there’s so much about! Least this seems to be short lived!
@Soberoct for my bday I’m just going out for a quiet family dinner! Debating drinking as I’d love 1 glass of fizz or 1 glass of red but I’m also enjoy being AF so I’ll see at the time! @Amdone123 has given you some really good advice re your birthday! I think ultimately you need to decide what you want to do, and if you are going to drink just make a conscious decision of limits. If you don’t drink I’d prob be honest and just say I’m doing dry January! Keep us posted!
I am aiming for 10,000 steps a day and 60 active mins. I use to gym and consistently achieve that but my schedules changed and it’s hard to fit it all in! But I’ll try my best! @Hohofortherobbers well done on your gym sesh and all your AF drinks! You sound super positive!

Morning all. @Mj20 , you're doing really well. Keep going. Glad you're feeling better. So much horrid stuff about. I didn't catch covid and I haven't caught any bugs yet so🤞. Regarding your birthday, I want to say see how you feel, but at the same time, I feel we need a plan !! Arghh, it's so conflicting. I've not been tempted either but I've been fed up and I drink when happy.
Though I'm feeling positive today. Back is lots better. I'm off now til Tuesday so I'm going to spend the next 5 days concentrating on me and what I want. @Buntyforgirls , how are you ?
