Evening all.
If anyone is interested in quitting alcohol for 30 days ( in the first instance), please join us.
I've had a busy month ; Wimbledon, Football, birthday, anniversary and have drank way too much.
I've given up before and felt great so am trying again.

@Soberanne, morning. It's nice here. Good for you planning a walk. I like walking in the rain. I know what you mean about rain and temptation. I've done that. It's a feeling of being all cosy in the house, cocooned - like.
I did Zumba last night and was feeling pleased with my self ( I had to push myself to get there). I thought fleetingly of buying a nice wine and relaxing in a hot bath, but then equated wine with a horrible thirst through the night, a headache and a waste of money. That is a result for me. I honestly think my days of getting hammered and smoking like a chimney are over. Hope so.
Have a good af day everyone!

@Soberanne well done to you. Its funny how our mind set has changed in the space of a few weeks. We are doing great.

CH79 · 04/08/2021 21:53

Evening everyone! Hope we're all good?! X

GodGrantMeTheSerenity · 05/08/2021 06:21

I'm nearly 2 weeks into what has turned out to be moderation rather than abstinence. I think I'm OK with that but don't like the fact that last week I felt very resolved and this week I can see old habits coming in. On saying that there is no way I'd have drank less than a bottle in one night before 2 weeks ago and when I have drank in this last week (5 out of 14 nights instead of usually 10 nights ) I've only had 2 glasses max. Small steps!

Soberanne · 05/08/2021 10:46

@GodGrantMeTheSerenity hi. I think you aredoing a,azing. You need to really look at the positives. Look at how much you have cut back and how many less units over all you have drank. You are also much more aware of what you are drinking. Well done

Soberanne · 05/08/2021 10:49

In an ideal world i would like to be able to drink the 14 units a week, but my problem was that my tolerance was so high i needed that and more to feel anything and feeling no effect seemed pointless. I am at the moment quitting altogether and some days i say it is forever and others i say i will drinkon such a day just to get through. My determination just now is to not drink on the days that i really feel need too Maybe in the future i can break the habit and be able only to drink when i pre plan it. We will see.

Soberanne · 05/08/2021 10:51

I am finding life very very boring and everywhere i read peolle say when the quit they are enlightened, free, energetic. I just feel bogged down with life with no release.
Sorry i am on one this morning

I think it can take a while to feel better @Soberanne certainly according to this link valahealth.com/posts/2020/10/01/what-to-expect-when-you-give-up-alcohol/

NB I can't comment on the veracity of that website/information

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 19:55

Evening all, only just saw the latest posts. Hope you're all ok.
I've had a lazy day today ; craved wine from about lunchtime I would say. Am still wanting it now. But I wouldn't go out for it. I never have wine in ( it would be drunk). I was wondering if people on here have alcohol at home ? What's weird for me is if I say had half a bottle in ( that's possible if from a drinking session), I would drink it at lunchtime and enjoy it but then I would go out for more. I would be on a mission. I suppose its not that weird really. If I don't get a taste for it, I can still crave it but the need is not as powerful as when I'd had a taste. Sorry for that ramble !
Anyway, I'm 25 days in and only had a few bottles ( no more than 1 in any session), not many cigarettes and....drum roll....no hangovers! So a success for me.
I think tomorrow will be hard. But I'll see. I may have 1 bottle of wine and do some cooking. But I'll need to pace myself.
Again though, I would be drinking through boredom (@Soberanne, I know where you're coming from).
Although it might not be through boredom. I might do it because I enjoy it Confused

Hi everyone! How are you all?!?!
Sorry I’ve been quiet! I had a migraine and just vegetal it had bits going on etc etc!
So today is day 12 for me,.. but I’m having wine tonight!!!! Our son is at a sleepover and I had wine in the fridge from the last big home deliv shop so thought why not! So far so good… one glass! Just clearing up after a nice dinner and thinking one more! Nice moderation evening! Fingers crossed!
Everyone sounds like they are doing great- really inspiring xxx

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 20:33

@Mj20, sorry you've been unwell. You're doing great. Enjoy the wine, that's the main thing.
I just dodged a bullet. Was looking at the dog who looked bored stiff and I thought, as it's stopped raining, I'll take him out. I had money in my coat and debated on whether to just get a bottle and have it in bed whilst watching TV. Honestly, the mental gymnastics - my head is hurting and that's without a drink.
I bought a pizza and fizzy vimto. Halo

@Amdone123 that’s an absolute win!!! Good for you! Your doing amazing xx

Buntyforgirls · 05/08/2021 21:25

That is such a win! And well done to everyone else too- it is not easy breaking habits and resisting triggers.
I haven’t had wine for a week, but had a couple of g and ts at home a few nights ago.
It’s big wine binges with friends that is my downfall.
And we are due to meet tomorrow. I have stocked up on nosecco as well as Prosecco and I am aiming for mindful and moderate.
What a great phrase- must remember to keep repeating...!

Amdone123 · 05/08/2021 21:44

@Buntyforgirls, yes ! That's the name of our next thread - Mindful and Moderate !
Yes, I'm starting to believe I can be ok not drinking at home, but going out is a challenge. My friend likes that Nosecco. I saw it in a local shop actually- I'll pick some up. Thanks for that. When I do meet my friends and its usually at someone's house, I could drink Nosecco in between glasses of prosecco.
You can do it ! Let us know how you get on.

Morning all. I'm up early today and raring to go. I love not having a hangover! Just looked in the mirror and my skin is glowing ( finally). I think it's the result of not drinking, more exercise and decent sleep ( apologies if I sound vain but I am !!).
Am excited for today as my new outfit is coming. It's very summery ( raining here !), but I don't care ! Am going to sort my wardrobe, colour my hair and chill out today.
There is a danger of me drinking today ( I can feel it), but I also know I don't want to get drunk, I want a nice meal and 2 glasses of wine, so I'm sure that will happen.
Have a great day everyone. If you're feeling any benefits of not drinking/ moderating, let us know !

Morning!
You all sound like you're doing great, each in your own way 😀
I wish I could do mindful & moderate but I'm a pig when I start so I've had no alcohol since last Friday night...thought I would waiver last night having all the family around but although I was a moody mare I didn't touch a drop...just hoping to get through this week too.
Sleeping loads better too!

Soberanne · 06/08/2021 08:46

Love waking up to the positive messages @Amdone123 and @EsmeraldasTambourine! I’m pleased to say I had my two glasses of wine and no more! Woke up feeling fresh and hangover free 💖 here’s to a mindful and moderated weekend for us all xxx

Amdone123 · 06/08/2021 18:04

Evening all, hope you're all ok. A good but rainy day here. I did, however, have cabin fever so walked to a local pub to have tea with dh. I'd been really fancying a glass of wine but by the time I'd walked to the pub (45 mins walk but one I do regularly), I felt so tired. I think it's this lingering cold. Anyway, my dh had ordered my usual bottle of wine. Had 1 glass. Brought the rest home. Dh has had 1 glass and I'm having another. That will be it for tonight ( I wouldn't go out in this weather even if desperate. Its blowing a gale and torrential rain). So, a good day for me. I've eaten a bit more rubbish than usual ( I'd rather that than a binge), but that's OK. At least no hangover tomorrow. My previous Friday evenings consisted of 2 bottles of wine, 6 or 7 cigarettes and standing in the kitchen texting crap to people!

I'll join please. Day 2 here. Hoping to sleep tonight as it was hard to come by last night yawn.....

Soberanne · 06/08/2021 18:27

@Starling12 welcome aboard. Day 2 is amazing

Mj20 · 06/08/2021 18:29

@Amdone123 omg the standing in the kitchen texting crap… that’s me ha ha!!!

Friend over tonight and we are having a couple of drinks… I’ve promised myself I’ll go steady and drink lots of water in between xx

Soberanne · 06/08/2021 18:29

Well a sober friday night is here. Hope those who abstaining are treating yourselves and those who are choosing to have a drink find the strength to stay within their limits. Well done everyone as lets be honest its not easy

Soberanne · 06/08/2021 18:31

@Amdone123 your doing amazing. I cant believe the willpower you have. To actually go out and have wine, then stick to a glass when you get home really is progress. Well done.

Soberanne · 06/08/2021 18:33

@Mj20 well done to you sticking to your 2 glasses. I am notthereyet. I cant even have alcohol in the house but its Keeping going in hope that one day i may be able to moderate.
