Evening all.
If anyone is interested in quitting alcohol for 30 days ( in the first instance), please join us.
I've had a busy month ; Wimbledon, Football, birthday, anniversary and have drank way too much.
I've given up before and felt great so am trying again.

@Soberanne, I think that sometimes but then just before I was thinking how going af at weekends is not such a song n dance anymore. They've just been happening. I'm having the odd thought but I have odd thoughts about eating ice cream or sweets, and I don't always act on them. I know what you mean though, it would be nice to not think of it at all.

Riding out my “feeling-flat- I’ll- have - a - glass- of -wine- then “ moments.
Tend to be 5-8pm for me.
I ‘m knitting, reading, shopping on amazon thinking of having a walk/ bath to stay distracted...!

Amdone123 · 08/08/2021 19:04

Yeah, ride it out ! My witching hour is a lot earlier noon, 1pm ish.
A nice hit bath and a good book never fails!

You're doing really well !

@Buntyforgirls how are you getting on. I hope your hanging in there.

Buntyforgirls · 08/08/2021 21:11

Thank you, ladies. I managed to resist.
Hope you had good evenings, too.

Hohofortherobbers · 08/08/2021 21:13

Hello there, can I join? I've had my drinking firmly under control this year, managed 100 days sober from Jan to April, then weekend drinking crept back in, now I've just come home from holiday where I've had wine with dinner every night, and the daily half bottle of red has continued at home. I have slept so badly over the last few days, I feel sluggish and unmotivated, I can feel a little hangxiety beginning to rear its head and I know I'll feel so much better if I quit again. So day 1 nearly done, but I could do with your support, the threads I was on at the start of the year were so helpful to me and I hope I can help you too.

Morning girls!!! You all sound like your doing amazing!!! So… anniversary was great- drank 3 large wines with a 3 course dinner and have woken early mildly hungover and a little anxious… the anxiety is more that I drank more than I’d intended luckily not crippling omg what did I type anxiety 🤣 I had bought a bottle of Prosecco but went actually no the wines enough… I’m done!!! So glad of that now! I’m now going to have a sober week ahead (as I drank Friday and last night- which feels a lot)!!
Here’s to a happy Monday for all xx

Soberanne · 09/08/2021 09:27

Morning everyone. Heres to a sober monday. @Mj20 again well done for being so mindful, its amazing, you choose to drink, choose what to drink and choose when to stop. I cant believe in such a small space of time how are awareness of what we are drinking has changed. Its certainly a journey and I think that the difference. It not about suddenly just stopping its about walking a path and stopping to look around.

Amdone123 · 09/08/2021 10:14

Morning everyone! Such great messages. We'll done @Buntyforgirls and @Mj20, that was a great result for both of you. It's true @Soberanne, so well said. It really is about stopping and thinking. I've been close a few times but stopped n thought and decided no, it's not what I want.
@Hohofortherobbers, welcome and of course you can join. This thread is perhaps coming to an end in the next few days but we're going to start a new one with a view to moderating. You can abstain though if you'd prefer that. We'll, you've certainly shown that you can do it and get your drinking under control. So if you've done it once, you can do it again. I know what you mean about it creeping back in. I've had periods of abstention then just gone back to how I was before. This time feels different though. I'm not saying I'm not going to slip up ( if I do, it's ok !), but I'll just keep learning.

So, a great night's sleep for me. I'm glad I stayed in and didn't go out for the sake of it. I hate mindlessly drinking ; the type where you're just doing it and not even enjoying it.
I was going to start our new thread a week today ( I'm a sucker for starting on Mondays- anything !), but I really need to start it Friday. I'm going away for the weekend for my husband's birthday with my sister and her partner. The weekend will revolve around drinking ( not so much my husband and sister's partner), but my sister and I drink when together. It's a holiday resort ( think Working Men's Clubs, dominoes and bingo. Classy ).
I will drink but I need a plan ( and probably your help). I woke up this morning worrying about it ( ridiculous really).
Anyway, I'm probably just worrying about undoing all my hard work and feeling hungover. I can't be hungover again at home or away. I'll make a plan today.
Have a great day everyone. We can do it !

Hi all! Just catching up!
We're currently away with sod all signal & no WiFi.
You all sound like you're doing fab.
I've had 1 can of G&T in the past 10 days, so not bad here either!
Will catch up again when home & look out for the new thread!

Xx

Hows everyone doing today. I have had brain fog today so am just going easy on myself. Hope your all having a good day.

Amdone123 · 09/08/2021 17:40

@Soberanne, hi there. I'm having such a lazy day. Well, I say that. I've done the washing, walked the dog, tidied around and later I'm off to Zumba. I had to go shopping too. Weird that buying wine didn't occur to me !

Evening all, I had a work do tonight, but had 0% beer with dinner, heading to bed feeling pleased with myself, wasn't even driving. Day 2 done

Amdone123 · 09/08/2021 22:30

@Hohofortherobbers, well done. You'll be better for it tomorrow on Day 3.

Morning all ! I'm so happy today because I've just looked at my journal and evaluated so far. I will keep it as short as possible! Out of 30 days, I have 1) had 23 days completely af
2) only 1 day, I had 1.5 bottles of wine ( the most I had in a day)
3) only 6 or 7 cigarettes in 30 days
4) on the other days I had either 2 glasses of wine or a few beers
5)No Hangovers!

Mission accomplished !
The best thing though is I have changed my mindset. I honestly no longer want to drink for the sake of it or go out and fall about drunk. And I definitely no longer want to lie in bed with a banging head and a mouth like the bottom of an ashtray, anxious over what I said or did.
I've upped my exercise, too. No point in smoking if I'm trying to get healthier !! I feel lighter, more energetic, more productive and happier!
Sorry for the long ( and somewhat indulgent!) post, but I needed to tell you all.
Thanks again for your support and encouragement. It's helped massively doing this thread.
Have a great day everyone!

Morning @Amdone123 love this message this morning!
Congratulations! You have done so well!!! I think what’s essential here (and a great lesson for us all) is Evaluating what we are doing!!! And seeing our wins!!!!
They say it takes 30 days to create new habits so perhaps that’s where your new mindset has come in xxx

I’m really looking forward to some abstaining now!! Nothing in the diary for the next two weeks so a great chance to not drink at all. Not that I’ve minded celebrating and having a few drinks along the way (lol) but it is nice to go completely AF sometimes xxx

Mj20 · 10/08/2021 09:29

@Soberanne how are you feeling today??? Xx

Soberanne · 10/08/2021 10:52

Hohofortherobbers · 10/08/2021 18:24

Well done @amdone123 that's inspiring!!

youboozeyoulose · 10/08/2021 19:39

Hello! I have had a few events like birthdays etc lately. I haven't been drink free but have managed to stay sensible and avoid hangovers. Basically just drink like a normal person! Glad to hear everyone is doing so well.

Soberanne · 10/08/2021 21:00

Hi everyone, another day done. Well done to everyone.

Amdone123 · 10/08/2021 21:19

Evening everyone! Yes, another day done. I've been so busy today, work, zumba, walking. I took myself to a pub for tea because I had 45 minutes before Zumba. I had a chicken sandwich and a glass of wine. I really enjoyed it. Didn't feel an urge to carry on drinking and skip Zumba ( I would have done not so long ago !!). So yes @youboozeyoulose, drinking like a normal person is a good feeling.

Keep going y'all !
