Well, I am typically drinking 2 bottles of wine a night. Am I an alcoholic? I can't seem to last beyond two days before having wine. I have an addictive personality have previously been a smoker). I am seriously thinking about taking up smoking again so as to ditch the alcohol. Advice desperately needed

What an informative and supportive thread may I join you all please

Todayisanewday75 · 10/07/2021 09:47

Can I join too? Currently on two bottles a night, planning to cut down to one first and then start having nights off. I know long term I need to stop altogether but as others have said that seems too scary right now.

Alfiemoon1 and Todayisanewday75 welcome. Hope you find some inspiration from this post. I know have. My progress has had a few slipups (given in to the occasional mid week and Friday drink), but my drinking seems to be more under control than before. I am still working towards complete sobriety, but atm I still feel I need that Saturday night blowout. I have a holiday coming up, so that will be a real test of my willpower. But I'm not going to give up on giving up. Good luck everyone. Please keep us posted xx

You may have a sugar problem with fluctuating sugar levels making you crave more. This can affect smoking and drinking.

Make sure you eat high protein meals frequently (and lots of (non high starch) vegetables and cut out sugars in general.
For example a two egg omelette with a pile of spinach. Never drink except a little as part of a meal.

Get counselling- is there something you are trying to anaesthetise?

You are drinking like an alcoholic. Join the AA or find out about ‘Rational recovery’ another approach. The GP reason is most probably an excuse your ‘addictive mind’ has found. It can be very clever.

How are you getting on @BabyBearRus

I stumbled across this thread and would love to know how it's going for you?

TheHumanSatsuma · 23/09/2021 20:24

@BabyBearRus

Has anyone had any success with hypnosis!
I bought an online “tape” online. I was sceptical to say the least but it really seems to have helped. I have cut down drastically.

It’s worth a try.

Lol I wouldn't dare admit how much I was drinking. Noone really knew tbh. I always kept it zipped. Unfortunately I was always a secret drinker. So, this is pretty much the reality of my peer group. And I have seen with my own eyes. Kids disco...all drinking copious amounts...while I supped on water. Yep I was never going to give the game away. Good to say that I was a big drinker in the past tense. Finally I am in control. Only weekends I will indulge in wine. A huge difference to two bottles a night. Feel so muy better. But still working towards becoming completely teetotal. Hope everyone else is doing okay on this thread. My best wishes to you all xx

P.s. it hasn't been easy. Sheer willpower, hypnosis downloads, and keeping very busy, plus early nights. But it has been worth it. Keep going everyone. This is a journey, and I know I have the propensity to get off the train at times to indulge myself. And, yes of course there have been a couple of times when I have. But onward and upward 🤞
