Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Frouby, 4 dry days???? I am seriously impressed.

longestlurkerever · 09/05/2019 21:28

Hi everyone. Sorry for silence. Have gone back to old job and everything suddenly feels busy again (in a good way so far but ask me again in a week) and I actually had two nights out in a row! Went for dinner and gig with dsis and one with DH. Neither were AF but reasonably moderate. AF today as DH is out.

Yet more arsing about with school costumes. For the love of God why can't they just say "butterfly costume required, 2 weeks' time" rather than sending cryptic messages with DD that you then have to corroborate with 29 other sets of parents, all of whom relayed slightly different messages. Collectively we convinced ourselves they were making wings at school and we just had to provide black clothes and pipe cleaner antennae. I trade leggings for pipe cleaners on the black market and consider it job done. Further confusion about whether bee stripes also being provided but I refuse to get involved in that debate. This afternoon this turned out to be wrong, wings needed by tomorrow. and I made the foolish comment to class email list that Tiger opposite my office had wings for £2 a pop. Cue a stampede that tiger's stock levels could not satisfy and a diplomatic minefield for me, working out whether child
and/or adult inhospital trumps prior claims....

Also volunteered to help school plant wildflower meadow tomorrow, pleased that there's a school thingy I can make as Dd always disappointed when I don't volunteer for trips etc. Inform dd, expecting appreciation, and instead she cringes and says "oh no, how embarrassing, Mummy" so it seems I missed that boat and am surplus to requirements now.

longestlurkerever · 09/05/2019 21:32

Lots of impressive moderation, starvation and exercise going on. I have no achievements to report on that score! Even forgot to check out work bike subsidy scheme.

Frouby · 09/05/2019 21:53

Its not 4 consecutive days tho, dry sun and mon cos fat club. Dry tues to see if I could. 2 gins last night. Dry tonight. Won't be dry tomorrow though because friday. But aiming for moderation.

Next weekend will be very wet though. Me and dh out out for our wedding anniversary. Going to book a hotel and everything!

3 consecutive days plus an extra still impressive though Frouby. Oooh re wedding anniversary night in a hotel! Fab!

Flossie44 · 09/05/2019 22:24

Omg frouby....firstly that’s bloody impressive!! 4 days!! And secondly....it’s never been a year since your wedding?!!!!!!

Flossie44 · 09/05/2019 22:28

Longest - your post made me laugh. I’m sure schools just get parents to make costumes as a way to piss them off!! You ever read mummy loves gin?? The story of the school craft project!!

Flossie44 · 09/05/2019 22:30

This is totally my life!!

NC4Now · 09/05/2019 22:32

I love making costumes. Unfortunately DS2 hates wearing costumes. The universe is evil.

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/05/2019 07:00

Well done Frouby. Ooh at anniversary hotel, how exciting.

Well done Dio too, that’s not much alcohol. And thanks for my medal 🙂

Longest, god I don’t miss demands for costumes but lol at your saga, ha ha. But aahhh at not being needed for the meadow, I can imagine that felt sad.

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/05/2019 07:05

So today is day 12 AF and of the BSD.

I quite like feeling confident that I won’t drink, I tick off the dry teacup on my app first thing as it helps motivate me but also because I’m fairly confident I won’t so I can legit claim the day AF iykwim. There is no wine in the house so that helps! (In garage)

Waterandlemonjuice · 10/05/2019 07:09

Flossie, that is hilarious 😂😂😂😂

Frouby · 10/05/2019 07:48

I thought school costumes were bad until my mate suggested fancy dress, at pony shows. Jesus fuck. We did it one at a Christmas show when dd was about 6.

Dd dressed as a Christmas fairy (she was into fairies at the time), pony dressed up as Rudolph with deeley boppers and a red nose, a rug covered in bells and fuckton of tinsel in her mane and tail. I refused to lead them so mate dressed up as another fairy. She was about 35, has always smoked and used sunbeds and been outside so without being awful was already a bit haggered looking. She wasn't as slim as she thought but managed to squeeze a pair of hotpants, a boobtube and we made some wings out of coat hangers and tinsel. She had a pair of lime green furry boots on, her arse cheeks hung out of the bottom of her shorts, fag in one hand and traumatised pony in the other. It was December, up in Lancashire somewhere and fucking baltic.

Once was enough. I bought a photo from photo tent, mate looked at it and asked why I let her do it 😂😂😂.

Off to hairdressers this morning, then shopping for a new outfit for next weekend. Am very excited about a child free night! It doesn't seem 2 minutes since we actually got married, am still getting used to my new name 😜

SNORT at fat, tarty, smoking (and not in a good way!) fairy 😂😂😂

NC4Now · 10/05/2019 09:47

I have a brilliant mental picture now!

CottonSock · 10/05/2019 15:10

Had one wine at the theatre last night and it was revolting. Not worth it. I am hopefully dry today which is a shocker for a Friday for me. None in house.

Frouby · 10/05/2019 17:48

I am not dry tonight and quite enjoying my gin, I must admit.

Needed it after clothes shopping post hairdressers. Tried on a billionty outfits, looked like a fat Eddie Izzard in some of them, like a fat, transvestite in others and like I was going for a job interview in the others. But didn't really want to get the job.

Ffs, ordered a top online, new jeans from next to pick up next week. Worse case scenario I have a top I can wear if I don't eat between now and next week so all good 🙈.

Anyway, tonight is my treat night. I don't count syns, or drinks. Am 1 gin in, enjoying number 2 and will definitely have a 3rd. But I didn't put the bottle of wine I have stashed in the fridge so that's better. And as much as I would love a few cans of lager I am not going to.

Happy Friday everyone.

Loving the pony story, Frouby. And PMSL, Longest. Sorry. Thank God we are long beyond dressing-up days. Poor old DS was terrified of dressing up, so always went in his uniform because that was "normal" for school. Even though he was the only child in full uniform. Still, it was an easy one for me. Grin

Not dry here, either. Very much not dry. Long day. I have decided that my tipping point is when I'm in the supermarket at 6PM. It's fatal.

Flossie44 · 10/05/2019 23:55

Not dry!! Went out with dh for first time in AGES. Had amazing dinner and heaps of wine!! And not feeling one bit guilty for enjoying it!! Maybe that’s my problem....

MadameForest · 11/05/2019 06:58

I'm so glad that here in France I've never had to find a dressing up outfit for school. Ever. And no World Book Day. Frouby I can't believe it's been a year, congratulations! I still can't decide whether or not to change my name as my maiden name is very nice. And I can believe you needed a gin after clothes shopping. After an hour of that I start hyperventilating, honestly! I hate it.
Flossie Glad you had a nice evening out with OH, it's so important to have grown up time.
Not dry last night, won't be dry tonight as friends over but I don't really care. Going out on a long hilly run now with friends so hopefully that will blow away the cobwebs. Have a good weekend everyone.

Frouby · 11/05/2019 08:40

madame my maiden name was a long, 3 syllable affair with Hs and As in funny places so I always had to spell it. Married name is short and snappy and easy to spell so it was nice to change it. But still use my maiden name on our business account, mainly because I can't be arsed to contact HMRC but I suppose I should.

It's definitely a faff changing it over. I still have the odd thing like appliance insurance in my maiden name as well. But just can't face changing them.

Had 4 x 35ml gins last night but feel ok this morning, didn't get up while 8am! Going to do a bit of housework this morning then spend the afternoon at the stables with the kids, moving our tack room over to the other side of the yard. Old tackrooms lights have blown and I can't see a thing in there, yard owner can't be arsed to fix it (has changed bulb and starter motor and now at a loss) so am moving into her one, which she didn't look pleased about but tough. So have bought a new shelving unit, going to fettle all our grooming stuff and just generally organize stuff.

Might let ds wash his pony while I am doing that, or at least wash his tail and legs. If I can cope with the bubbles everywhere 🙈. Hoping the weather picks up a bit now.

Then dh is cooking a steak tonight for us. Not sure what the dcs will have, freezer surprise or pasta probably.

Am planning on being dry but won't beat myself up if I have a couple.

longestlurkerever · 11/05/2019 08:43

I genuinely don't mind the dressing up, it's just the communications around it I object to! They seem to rely on s bunch of seven year olds to deliver the message, which either results in my Dd1 coming home with an implausibly specific request, or a vague but not terribly reassuring assertion that she "thinks her teacher has yellow tape or something for stripes".

Anyway, that stress has paled into insignificance because the thing I have always dreaded has happened and dd1's teddy has gone missing. I have everything crossed that it's at school and I have tracked down the long suffering caretaker to let us in to look this morning but she went to bed hysterical and is refusing to eat till they are reunited. It probably sounds ridiculous but I suspect sensory issues/adhd for Dd1 and her bear is how she regulates her emotions. It's totally my fault too as I had it in my bag because she wanted it to watch the assembly, and then it wasn't there when I got home. Saving grace is I haven't been many places as meadow planting turned out to be more like wholesale landscape excavation than the casual scattering of seeds I had envisaged, and I have already retraced my steps to where I had lunch to no avail, so it probably is at school but if it is not i genuinely don't know what to do. Was not very moderate as s result, and didn't sleep well. Again, really sorry for the drama, I must sound ridiculous!

So glad you had a good night Flossie! And happy anniversary weekend Frouby!

longestlurkerever · 11/05/2019 10:11

Found! Thank fuck for that!

Waterandlemonjuice · 11/05/2019 10:23

Flossie, that sounds like a lovely evening, you needed it 🙂

Dionysa, yes, triggers, mine is end of a working day, bit stressed, cold wine in fridge = at least a bottle down by 9pm, easily done, for me.

Longest, thank goodness for that! Lol at excavation versus casual scattering of seeds, like in an advert! Misrepresentation, that is!

MdmeForest, enjoy your run, I love the idea of running but not sure I could ever do it, I was knackered at the end of a 3 mile walk last weekend.

It’s day 13 AF and BSD for me and dh has weighed me. I’ve lost 16lbs in total in 12/13 days!! I’m very happy with that. He’s got a record of when he weighed me in August last year and I’m less than that apparently so that’s good too, as that was after food poisoning and half way through BSD last time. My mistake was that I did the 8 weeks then didn’t move to the 5:2 which WOULD HAVE WORKED , I just went back to carbs. And loads of wine, obviously. Although I did dry January so it’s not as bad as it could have been I mean, durrrrrr!

Having my hair done this morning then dd is off at a fayre so naybe we’ll have a siesta crapuleuse (? Not sure I have that right)

Have a nice weekend everyone 🙂

NC4Now · 11/05/2019 13:22

Oh my god, I have not been this hungover in years. "A few quiet drinks round mine", she said. I should know not to believe that particular friend. We ended up in a nightclub dancing to indie music. I have a vague recollection of getting home. Very vague.
Mouth is like the sahara, head feels like it's been hit with a shovel and my ears are ringing. And why do my eyes burn?
My only saving grace is I seem to have escaped the beer fear this time.

Flossie I'm really glad you had a nice night out with DH. I think you needed that. Can you make a regular date night?

MadameF I like my married name, but kind of wish I'd kept my maiden name as it is the boys' name. I can't be arsed changing it back though as I have this ridiculous fear I'll have to start again with building my professional reputation. Plus faff.

Water Siesta crapuleuse sounds like the perfect way to spend an afternoon.

Enjoy the stables Frouby
