Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Lol at water and lemon juice ds!

NC4Now · 06/05/2019 16:07

At 16 my DS asked me which part of a lettuce was the bit you eat.

MadameForest · 06/05/2019 17:22

Little children little problems big children big problems.
A French saying that is quite true!

Frouby · 06/05/2019 18:42

NC I can imagine dd doing similar. She is very clever academically but a bit gormless with common sense bless her.

Ds is as sharp as a tack. Doesn't miss a trick. Got an amazing memory for a 5 year old and sees connections between different things I wouldn't think possible. Bewitched (remember them from the 90s?) came on the radio the other day. He said 'mummy, it sounds like that music thats on when people wear green'. Meaning St Patricks day.

He made me laugh earlier. Went to the allotment and the people on the plot opposite us were there working away. He has in the past been invited onto their plot to 'help'them. He was mithering me to go across but they looked busy so I said no, he had to wait to be invited. The couple are in their 60s I would say. Anyhow he's wittering on at me saying he wanted to help. I said they don't need help. He said 'the girl one does mummy, I can tell' 😂.

3.5lbs off at fat club. Happy with that considering I have had a not very slimming world friendly weekend. Just had a massive chicken dinner though so will probably put it back on temporarily. But have another week to address tonight.

Just not drinking lager will make a massive difference I think. Wish it wasn't so fattening.

Canshop, it sounds as if you handled it really well. But please vent all you like!! I think you were right to step in, Frouby. Children shouldn't have to be made to feel responsible for other children, however much their friends have been through.

I'll chip in to add my bit to the '14 yos can be tricky' theme. Mine has thus far only slithered towards making friends with girls whom I wouldn't want her to be around, but I am sure it will be boys before long. There was one particular girl whom even the teachers warned me about (she was the 'cool kid' - and was later excluded for all kinds of horrendous deeds). DD was desperate to invite her for a sleepover, so I agreed after weeks of nagging. The girl was in fact perfectly ok and, funnily, DD was less keen on her after she'd seen her being really ordinary and polite at our house. She never bothered with her again after that. Confused

I've had the whole 'I can't find the platform' thing from DS, too, at long distance. I just said: 'Um, I suggest you look for it, then, as it's not likely to be going anywhere in a hurry. Or you could always ask a memeber of staff.'

Have in fact had a pleasant day with DD, for once. I had a very small can of fizzy wine at lunch time and am now weighing up what to do next.

Dionysa · 06/05/2019 18:51

Crossed with Frouby. 3.5lbs? That's brilliant. I love your DS!!

MadameForest · 06/05/2019 20:19

3.5lbs is fantastic Frouby. I hope DP can lose as much as that this week. Dion it's nice you had a good day with DD. My DS isn't speaking to me tonight because I've confiscated his telephone due to 2 'mots' (in English no idea what kids get for bad behavior?) but I'm sure it won't last.
AF tonight, herb omelette and salad for dinner. Will have some chocolate with a cup of tea later.

Canshopwillshop · 06/05/2019 21:15

Thanks Longest and Dionysa

Frouby - well done!

Madame Forest - starting to see the truth in that saying.

Waterandlemonjuice and NC4 - proof that our kids will always need us!

Canshopwillshop · 06/05/2019 21:21

And Dionysa - interesting about your DD and her friend. It shows how dispelling the myth does work.

Sorry for the repeat post 😳 can't blame the booze as I'm AF just my aptitude with apps, I prefer a real keyboard

Dionysa · 06/05/2019 21:46

MadameF, I'd be lost with apps!! I'm too old...

Had a couple of large gins, but feel pretty sober now. Not sure why I bothered, other than habit.

Canshop, it did work in this situation. That said, I've banned a couple of other potential "friends" completely. DD hates me for it!

Waterandlemonjuice · 06/05/2019 21:54

Sitting in bed reading, today is day 8 AF 🙂

NC4Now · 06/05/2019 22:29

You’re all making me feel terribly guilty. I’ve fallen off the wagon. It was Line of Duty’s fault, though I’m not sure that still counts tonight.
3.5lbs is awesome Frouby. Well done. Your DS sounds lovely. My DS2 is the sharpest too and funnily enough, fell in love with Bwitched when we went to the Christmas lights switch on. Bless him, it was the night of his life. He got a press wristband because he was with me and access to the bit in front of the barrier by the stage, and the VIP lounge. He also got to meet the guy who plays David Platt in Corrie (Corrie is one of his special interests, and DP is his favourite character). DS spent most of the night sat on a speaker at the side of the stage, feeling like a rock star or something.
In the queue in the chippy on the way home, he went ‘not gonna lie Mum, you have the coolest job in the world’ 😂
It really warmed my heart actually. I do work a lot and they often have to just put up with it, so the job gave him a bit back that night.
And a love of B
witched. ☘️

Waterandlemonjuice · 07/05/2019 08:22

Nc4 that’s high praise indeed! Frouby 3.5lb is great.

Just checking in, hope everyone is ok. Day 9 AF and of the BSD for ne today. Lovely bank holiday weekend, I feel cheerful!

Waterandlemonjuice · 07/05/2019 08:32

Ooh and my eyes were really piggy and red and sore on Friday and Saturday and this morning suddenly the whites are really white, what I think Jilly Cooper would call “the white eyes of the non drinker and smoker” 😂 - I don’t smoke anyway and I’m obviously not a non drinker but I’m pleased (and relieved as they looked so awful last week)

CottonSock · 07/05/2019 08:51

@leavingAqaba. Are you doing Ramadan?

Well done on the 3.5lbs frouby. I did 1lb which is better than a gain over a bank holiday I guess would have been more normal.

I stuck to 1 drink per day. Awake so early and productive as a result. This feels better than I thought it would!

MadameForest · 07/05/2019 11:46

Day 8 AF is brilliant Water. It always takes a few consecutive days of AF to get the eyes white. It makes you look and feel so much better. I'm not there yet, maybe Friday as I don't want to drink this week.
Cotton 1 drink a day over the weekend is excellent moderation, no wonder you feel good today.
I didn't work this morning and treated myself to a 20km run, the longest I've done since I've had the thyroid issue. It took 2 hours which is a long time but the dog and I enjoyed it, even if it proves I'm not ready to do long races quite yet Sad. Have dropped a couple of pounds, cutting out wine and cheese is usually enough for me.

leavingAqaba · 07/05/2019 17:30

Well done all with the various teen terrors. I still have that to come given mine are primary still.
water you seem to have really settled into the AF BSD, good for you.
No Cotton I’m not but I’m overseas and most people around me are. It’s a significant change to life for a month even when you are not fasting. I normally commit to something, so this year it’s as many AF days as I can manage alongside more-or-less BSD. As you can see I kept the commitment a little vague Grin

Frouby · 07/05/2019 18:04

Evening all

Busy day today blitzing my house and a Tesco big shop. Hate tescos, it's so expensive but needed a few bits I can't get from Aldi and couldn't be arsed to go to both. Just had a shower and sat down, have the old internal debate going on as to whether to drink or not. There is a cannof diet coke in the fridge so might have that and if I still fancy a gin afterwards have one then. Would be 3 days AF and I can't remember the last time I was 3 days AF!

Nothing else to report.

Apart from the fact that I started watching Line Of Duty last night, thanks to NC4 I think it was. Watched the first 2 episodes of the first series and am hooked. Need to see if I can download them all as they are only available for a couple of weeks on the iplayer.

Well done cotton, that’s good moderating. Leaving, that is vague 🙂

Waterandlemonjuice · 07/05/2019 19:21

Well done on 3 or 2 days frouby, you seem to be good at moderating. LOD is great, enjoy!

Frouby · 07/05/2019 19:51

Whoop whoop 3 days AF 😁. Had my can of diet coke, then started making tea so didn't bother with a gin.

Made a Thai prawn red curry was absolutely lush, much nicer than the takeaway we paid £30 for last week. Coconut milk was a lot higher in syns than I remembered so next time will buy the half fat version. Didn't actually have much of the sauce though, maybe 60ml so not too horrendous on the syn count.

Dd just been down crying. Sigh. She can't do her science homework, doesn't have a clue. It's recovering what they did in year 9 but she says she didn't do it and has no idea. She has moved into the top set of science this year so suspect it's something the top set covered but lower set didn't and her science teacher wasn't the best. So made her a hot chocolate and sent her to do her history homework instead.

Frouby, 3 days AF would be brilliant.

I did a 13 hour work day today, so am having a very large G&T now, and sod it. I may then have another one. I am currently wondering whether I would do better if I drank every night, but not very much, as it would take away the craving. Though the defective off-switch might be a problem.

Really glad to hear about the running, MadameF. Also interested to hear about the eye-whites.

Water, I am in awe.

Cotton, excellent moderating.

Leaving, enjoy the primary years...

NC4Now · 07/05/2019 20:24

Frouby Line of Duty is immense. You’ll love it. I need series 6 to start next week really.
Some impressive stuff going on here. Excellent moderating and AFing.
I’ve just done a HIIT step class. Nearly bloody killed me but I made it to the end without puking or fainting, so I’m calling that a win. Tomorrow I get back on the WW Wagon. Bank holidays don’t half throw me off track.
MmeForest I’m going to try for Friday too. We’ll have white eyes together.
