Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Don’t feel bad about not going out. Having family round for lunch totally counts as an activity.
We went to my mum’s for roast lamb and now I’m collapsed on the sofa.
DS1’s a bit glum because he broke up with his girlfriend and I think DS2 has fallen asleep.
My hangover’s lifted now too. I’m considering popping round to our local. They’ve got hip hop DJs on in the garden. That might cheer DS up.

Flossie44 · 21/04/2019 18:32

Hey happy Easter everyone. Hope the hangovers are easing all round.
Dion - ‘mention gin’ 😂😂
Frouby - your lamb sounds gorgeous!! Mind you I don’t envy you cooking on a day like today.
We got back from camping in motorhome this morn and I’ve starfished in the garden ever since. I managed to throw together a bacon Brie and cranberry ciabatta for dh this morn. (Mine without bacon as I’m veggie!). And threw together a pasta bake for the kids tonight.
I’m back on terrace with ice cold Pinot and packet of salt n vinegar McCoy’s!!
I wish I hated wine!! But I really bloody love it!! Ffs!!

longestlurkerever · 21/04/2019 18:56

Yum all the foodsounds amazing! We went to science thingy at abandoned mill. Was nice. Watched explosions and made rockets and painted t shirts. Car got a puncture but borrowed a pump thing from friend and managed to make it home. Will worry about it tomorrow. Or the next day, if garage closed tomorrow. DC were appreciative of their egg hunt. Managed to write a set of rhyming clues before crashing last night. Might attempt AF tonight but will have takeaway and cannabis tea.

NC4Now · 21/04/2019 19:03

Longest let us know how the tea goes. I’m quite curious.

Flossie44 · 21/04/2019 19:18

I’m Intrigued by tea too!! Could this be a wine substitute?? Does it give you a mellow feel??

Dionysa · 21/04/2019 20:07

Longest, I am awaiting the tea update with bated breath!

AF here, for the first time in too many days. Becks Blue has seen me through. I nearly cracked, but DS was starving at about 5 PM, so I made an early dinner. This takes the edge off the craving a bit...

Glad you got back safely, Flossie.

Frouby, the garden counts as going out.

Bewildered, I started one of the videos and fell asleep because I was tired and hungover. Grin

longestlurkerever · 21/04/2019 20:09

Going to have my curry first!

Flossie44 · 21/04/2019 20:12

Curry without beer is an achievement in itself!!

longestlurkerever · 21/04/2019 20:16

I don't have any beer in. DH opened wine but we both decided we didn't really fancy it that much and I have put the vacuvin thingy in it! [shocked]. Think I am actually just beyond tired tbh.

Frouby · 21/04/2019 20:16

I am just eating a mini Victoria sponge cream cake.

When I say mini its about the size of my head.

Was dry in the end, and off to bed shortly. Am sulking because I started watching the most recent series of Shetland on the iplayer last week. Was saving the last 2 episodes for tonight but they are no longer available. Fuck sake.

Can apparently watch them on Amazon for a couple of quid but need to watch via the firestick which is upstairs and dh is up there farting sunday dinner off, and probably watching some shite film. And ds isn't asleep yet so will mug me as soon as I go up.

And I now feel slightly sick from massive cream cake.

I drink too much so would like to join thread please.

I drink because I like the feeling of stress being lifted from me. It's my way of relaxing
and it's become habit.

I can't go more than 3 days without a glass 😔

longestlurkerever · 21/04/2019 21:03

Hello fillymglass and welcome. I am nodding along to your post.

I think cannabis tea is a bit relaxing actually. It's bloody expensive so I made one bag stretch between two and it could have done with being stronger, and it tastes like old weeds,, like rooibos but I enjoyed it.

Dionysa · 21/04/2019 22:05

Longest, PMSL at "tastes like old weeds". I might try downing my herbal pessaries with a cup of cannabis, and see where that gets me.

I'm nodding along too, @Fillmyglass.

Good night, Frouby.

Flossie44 · 21/04/2019 23:19

Fillmyglass - I too love the feeling of stress lifting.

Frouby - a cake the size of your head sounds amazing!! Cake

Dion - how are the pills going? Well done on the becks blue. I’ve tried it loads but just bloats me and makes me feels rubbish.

Longest - do old weeds taste good enough to stop drinking wine??

I had half a bottle of wine but hideous heart burn stopped me downing the rest and made me have health anxiety again!! Ffs

BewilderedOwl · 22/04/2019 07:09

Might be clutching at straws Dionysa but if you're asleep you're still not drinking! Is becks blue any good? I gots some 0.0 Heineken from the shop the other day its surprisingly ok for a AF drink. I also dabbled with another AF wine, be free chardonnay... massive improvement on the nosseco. Would say almost like the real thing but we both know I would be talking bs Haha.

Hello fillmyglassplease I'm new to the thread too, seem a nice lot so far Wink, also nodding along to your post.

longestlurkerever · 22/04/2019 08:38

Hmm old weeds as a substitute for wine.... Not every day certainly! I do feel a bit bleurgh though after exceeding my 1/2 bottle limit most days this holiday, and fat too. Need to do something. My mental health is in a better place though - it seems I can only keep on top of one thing at once.

Annoyed at friends who are flaking out off annual egg hunt in the park for the lamest of reasons. My kids have been looking forward to it for weeks and I hate disappointing them - probably why they act so entitled all the time but still. Going to see if I can take them to my beloved outdoor pool but I think it's adults only until May.

School goes back tomorrow. Nursery the day after. Has everyone else survived the holidays?

Frouby · 22/04/2019 09:10

fillmyglass welcome. I also drink when stressed. Also happy. Sad. Bored. To celebrate. To commiserate. Wednesday. Etc etc etc.

Feel much fresher this morning for no alcohol yesterday and slept much better. Fast on by about 10pm. Woke at 6ish.

Off to nature reserve this morning, then allotment this afternoon. Need to get spuds in and some seeds sown. So will no doubt work up a significant thirst.

Mine aren't back until next monday Longest. As much as they drive me daft I love them being off, no school runs or prising small boys into school uniform and the days seem longer without that 3pm finish kind of feeling. Now the weather seems to have finally improved I want to make the most of the evenings. Ponies and allotment and dog walks and just sitting in the garden chilling out a bit. I love spring and early summer, it seems so fresh anad hopeful. Come august everything seems a bit jaded and flat and blown and you start to want cosy dark nights again. I know British weather is a pita, but I do love the different seasons.

We are rapidly approaching lager weather 😂😂😂

Yes I have been enjoying the holidays since the weather improved and work calmed down. I totally adore this time of year before it gets sticky and parched and the nights start drawing in again. I am lying in the garden in my PJs and dressing gown. Have no idea what kids are up to and don't care. Have just ordered £40 of wildflower seeds to turn my stolen railway embankment into a pollinator-attracting meadow. I am terrible at gardening and our soil is rubbish so wish me luck!

selina19 · 22/04/2019 12:37

Afternoon all can I join please ? I come from a family of big drinkers 30 now and I have drunk probably at least once every week since I was 22. I had a year off due to having a baby. Maybe I should have more children to stop me hahaha 🙈😂
I want to cut down not stop! I also find any excuse to drink.
Recently got put on antibiotics and the first thing I did when I got out the docs was google can I drink on the type I'm on. I realised then I obv put my habit before my health! 😭 that's pretty shameful to me. I do AF days in the week but I have to do sumin as I use it as a crutch xx hope everyone is having a nice time enjoying their bank holiday xx

Frouby · 22/04/2019 16:40

selina welcome. Hope you find some support here.

Had a lovely day, and just kicking back with a naice cold bottle of Budweiser. Dh going to pick tea up later (he's not drinking today) so it feels like a proper day off.

Been to the nature reserve this morning with my lovely cousin and her wife, and her wifes sister and her 2 dcs. Was really nice, the kids loved it and ds was as happy as larry with 2 mates to pal around with. We did pond dipping which was smelly and messy and wet but they loved it. Came home and we went to the big horse tack shop about 20 mins away and treated the kids to new boots and gloves and a few bots for the ponies.

Kids never had new riding boots bless them, have always bought second hand mainly because they are softer to wear but my usual lady I buy from didn't have their sizes.

Dh is back to work tomorrow thank god lol. It's like having another child sometimes, that man makes more mess than any of us. And he just doesn't see it, probably because he doesn't want to. But hes working tomorrow so out from under my feet. I'm not working til Friday now I don't think so ponies and allotmenting and naice walks for the rest of the week, if the weather holds. Mind you, am not sure if dh has work after tomorrow so at least he can help plant a billionty spuds 😁🙈.

Hello everyone!
I hope you are having a fantastic dry weekend, weather I mean, not drink, it is Easter after all.
Well, I'm finally married at 53. Here are a few photos, married in black you'll wish yourself back, marry in haste repent at leisure, they both apply to me but who cares. We had a lovely day with the kids and my Dad who happened to be over, then went up to Dinard for the evening. Will catch up more tomorrow, enjoy the rest of the bank holiday Smile
