Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

Blue Jeans. PMSL. Is your DS my Dad, Frouby?

Just flying by as DC are making demands. But have had wine. FML. FML. FML. DD is being unspeakably vile. Beyond description. There is no alternative. DP is also being a shit.

But Flossie is the one who needs very big hugs.

Hugs for you too, Longest.

Welcome, Scattered. I'd be v pleased if my units were 20 per week. I daren't count them.

Frouby · 17/04/2019 21:08

dion her love for Neil Diamond goes back to a horrific holiday with FIL to Benidorm when dd was 4 I think, so 10 years ago. MiL had recently died so we agreed to a week away with fil.

You know it's been a fucking shit holiday when a neil Diamond tribute in a shitty fucking cabaret bar is the most memorable thing about it. We told dd he made the song up for her as she was wearing blue jeans (it was fucking freezing and pissed it down so much the manmade beach washed away).

It was only last year when she heard it somewhere and went 'ooooo it's my song'that we realised she genuinely thought he had written it for her and still believed at 13.

She also thought the barmaid was called Caroline 😂😂😂😂😂

Frouby I’m howling 🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely love stories like that. DS1 thought for years that my mate Johnsty learned to pull pencils out of his ears at Magic School. And since he was my mate from school, I must have gone there too.
Cracks me up on these forums when people say ‘I don’t tell my children about Father Christmas. They need to know I will ALWAYS tell them the truth.’
Where’s the fun in that??

Frouby · 17/04/2019 22:16

Fuck telling kids the truth, the best thing about being a parent is being able to fill them full of shit.

Dh at a funeral today. To save the billionty questions from ds, I told him daddy was going to church to remember Jesus. Ds thinks he still there thinking about Jesus and celebrating Him being risen again. Ds at a C of E school and they have done lots last week on Easter so he hasn't asked any questions.

I love little ones waffling on about God and Jesus and religion. They are so earnest and sincere and unquestioning. I am not religious but went to a c of e and sunday school and church with my stepfather. Dds primary wasn't religious at all so I had forgotten just how godly religious schools are.

They fill kids with as much shit as parents do, but in a more organised way 😁.

Frouby, I’m absolutely pissing myself out loud here!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. That’s one for a wedding speech when dd gets married!! As for the barmaid Caroline 😂😂

Hey Dion, how you doing lovely??

As for me..following telling dh he was the biggest knob in knob land, he’s still in denial and telling me it was partly my fault. He’s trying to be affectionate but I’ve told him it’s only tantric sex now until he can show me he respects me 😂😂 He thinks I’ve gone mad!! I think I have control. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Deffo not AF tonight....as per usual!! Going away tomorrow in our camper for few days. Dreading it if I’m honest. Dd1 will be a nightmare and moaning she’s not got her ‘personal space’ (wtf is that?! I can’t remember!!) dd2 will just be more difficult to manage..and dh will be a knobber. He will drink too much and get gobby!! I just want a nice spa weekend on my own with a group of gal friends!! Anyone up for it?!!! 😁😎

longestlurkerever · 17/04/2019 22:56

I am there Flossie! Good on you for taking charge. That's great to hear. I am concocting my fantasy weekend away with old friends who all turn 40 next year. Have been googling lighthouses and castles and things to hire and buttering up dsis to take dds. Rather suspect irlss get scaled back to a night in a youth hostel with kids in tow but one can but dream.

Dd1 home safely thank god. She was full of how much she loves and missed me. Think she was overtired. I drank wine in the end - one and a bit bottles between 3. Could be better, could be worse. It is my late df's 75th birthday so feeling a bit sad, but he was a good'un and I feel lucky for that.

Loving the DC stories, though my DD goes to a churchy school and we are not religious so I have always said to her that some people believe in Godvand we respect that but I don't. Age 4 she came home saying "some people believe Jesus rose from the dead but I don't. I think he's lying on the floor, dead". Cracked me up.

NC4Now · 18/04/2019 00:15

My best attempts at Catholic indoctrination have also failed, despite me sending them to Catholic school. In fact, it’s probably a good time for me to pull the ‘Right boys, early night tonight, I want you up bright and early for Mass’ gag. I do it several times a year and it’s totally futile.
I wish I could find the picture DS1 drew of God, when he was 4. I found it last week and I was in bits 😂

You’re all going to hate me but I have a spa day booked with my two best-friends-from-sixth-form on Saturday. Can’t bloody wait.
Tomorrow night a legendary nightclub in our city is holding a reunion. I have a sense of trepidation but I’m going. At least I don’t have to worry about getting served.

A few beers with DS watching Gogglebox and First Dates tonight. It would have been day 3, so I’m ignoring tomorrow’s plans and passing it off as acceptable. I’ve turned a huge corner with work this week and a massive weight of anxiety has lifted as a result, so I’m letting my hair down within reason.

Flossie44 · 18/04/2019 07:27

Longest - glad dd home safely. I always feel happier when my chicks are back in their basket (excuse the seasonal pun!)

NC4 - well done on the work thing..a lovely feeling when a weight is lifted

Dionysa · 18/04/2019 14:26

Loving these stories...

Glad your DD returned safely, Longest.

NC4 I am never speaking to you again following the spa day news Grin.

Incredibly stressed and busy, and my head is killing me (might be wine-related, might be a migraine. Not sure yet). Will be able to relax a bit tomorrow.

Flossie, I hope you have managed to get DH under control, and that the camper trip is bearable.

Just thinking that Anglaise is getting married the day after tomorrow!! I hope everything is going to plan.

Frouby · 18/04/2019 17:24

Afternoon all

DH is absolutely hanging. He's been a right PITA. And dd is poorly so flopping around all over the place making snotty sounds.

Worked this morning for a couple of hours, then did housework, went to the garden centre, did some sowing on the allotment then took dog out for an hour. Am shattered now.

DH whining about how poorly he feels. Ds whining because he hasn't been riding (dd was too poorly and I need someone with me to watch ds while I get his pony in at minute as have to get friends arsey cob in as well).

So am having a beer, then going to have a nice bath, a chinese for tea (not my favourite but it will stop dh whining) and an early night.

As it's officially the start of the bank holiday weekend all rules on food and alcohol are off.

Also bought ds a venus flytrap from the garden centre. He was insisting on touching it. Showed him the 'Feed Me' clip from Little Shop Of Horrors and now he's a bit reluctant to poke it 😁.

Anglaise - I hope you have a wonderful wedding day.

Flossie - go girl. Love the tantric sex only threat 😅

Frouby - your DS is probably terrified by his Venus flytrap now 😂

NC4 - jealous of your spa weekend. Enjoy.

Dionysa - hope you have a relaxing weekend.

It’s my birthday weekend and the sun is going to shine 😊

Happy Easter everyone.

longestlurkerever · 18/04/2019 21:36

Hurrah, I love Easter, it is like Christmas ought to be. No work for 4 days. Excuse to eat chocolate. But better weather, more daylight, no travelling miles to stay with rellies if you don't want to and the only shopping you have to do is pick up a few eggs from Sainsbury's. And this one looks set to be sunny, bonus. Happy birthday Canshop and Happy wedding weekend Anglaise - you have picked a great day for it.

Is anyone else doing anything fun? We are staying in London but I might do some egg-hunting at Hampton Court and a sciencey thing at Royal Gunpowder Mills. Meeting friends on Monday for annual egg hunting tradition in the park too. Would like to tidy up garden tomorrow, get hair cut and go for an outdoor swim. Will see.

AF. Easy day at work since Brexit has been canned. Despatched DM to station, changed sheets, put away a Mount Everest of washing (who knew we had so many clothes?!), had bath and am now in bed.

Canshopwillshop · 18/04/2019 22:11

Thanks Longest. It’s my birthday on Sunday and we are going to a bbq at friend’s house. Monday we are meeting another group of friends for a dog walk and drinks. Tomorrow we are taking DS and his friend to a classic/super car show tomorrow - he’s very excited.
Enjoy your weekend in London.

NC4Now · 19/04/2019 02:38

Happy wedding day Anglaise!!
It’s 2.30am and I’m just in from a nightclub reunion. Danced my socks off. My feet are burning, my ears are ringing, and I’m sat having a brew and toast before bed. I won’t sleep for hours.
Daft times... I feel like I’m just home from 1998.

longestlurkerever · 19/04/2019 08:28

Hahaha! I didn't realise that was last night! Glad it was fun. Is it spa today to recover?

Dionysa · 19/04/2019 18:26

NC4, that sounds brilliant. I was not doing anything like that exciting in 1998, never mind now. I was teetotal, for starters. 😂

I'm not going to worry too much about this weekend, as the stress has finally decreased slightly (had a nice afternoon with the DC), and it's nice weather, and loads of other people are in holiday mode.

Canshop, I hope your DS enjoyed the car show.

How is the Frouby household? Your tales cheer me up no end.

I have bought one pre-mixed can of G&T, so we will see where that leads.

longestlurkerever · 19/04/2019 19:09

Attempting barbecue but it's not doing very well!

Dionysa · 19/04/2019 22:04

Both DC wanted to play a board game this evening. Both have shouted and called each other every name under the sun, and have now flounced off. Nobody is on speaking terms now. FML, FML, FML.

It is just as well I have written this weekend off.

Dionysa · 19/04/2019 22:05

Longest, I'll do your BBQ if you do my board game. Grin

Frouby · 19/04/2019 22:24

Dion am here, quite pissed though. Ndn came round, we had beer and curry, and me and dh just sat chuntering at the news coa they have a feature about ASMR or whatever it is.

Had a good day. Tamed my feral ponies this week, and ds had a little sit on. He's a hooligan (like his pony) and was kicking off that much to get on, I chucked him on bareback thinking he would shut up.

Little twat wanted to trot round super fast.

Will have a hangover in the morning but don't care. 😜

OP posts:
Dionysa · 19/04/2019 22:36

Frouby, I am waving at you. I don't care about tomorrow morning, either. FML.

Frouby · 19/04/2019 22:56

I'm winning Dion. Dh just passed out on sofa so ak going to sneak tk bed super quietly and be a pissed starfish all by myself 😁😁😁.

He was chuntering about my friend and yard owner where the ponies are, and how he thinks she is in a relationship with a bloke who lives at the back of the yard, because bloke kept saying we, refering to him and mate.

Am not sure if she is, if she is she's keeping it quiet because it's her business but dh was chirruping on like a scandalised 14 year old girl, then pfffft, he's snoring 😁😁😁😁

OP posts:
NC4Now · 20/04/2019 00:36

Hasn't it been gorgeous today??
I stayed in bed till lunchtime with sore feet and ringing ears, then dropped DS off at my mums because there were no buses and she had jobs for him.
I've cleaned the downstairs of my house and then had tea at my mum's (Good friday = no meat = lush cheese and onion pie) then spent the evening at my friend's drinking beer in her lovely garden.
Sorry to hear your kids fell out Dion. That is very wearing. Remind me how old they are?
Longest how did the BBQ go? My friends are real fire starters. We love a fire pit of any kind :D

Dionysa · 20/04/2019 07:24

NC4, 15 and 17. Sigh.

Anglaise ... Big day!!! 💍 Sending you lots of love.

Frouby, I love the idea of DH being a scandalised 14 yo girl.

longestlurkerever · 20/04/2019 09:17

Wedding bells! So exciting! Have an amazing day Anglaise!

Had to finish the kids' kebabs on the griddle pan but leg of lamb did pretty well once I closed the lid. Not very meat free I admit but better than a board game probably. We sometimes let dd1 stay up late to play one but dd2 is a horror with anything competitive.

Off to Hampton Court today. Bit of a hike but civil servants get in free and it's a good day out, especially when they have the Easter egg hunt on.
