Tryers to be dryers spring into spring, not as much wine, beer or gin. We sow our seeds of hope for a dryer season, but if we drink, it's for a reason.

Thread 5 for Tryers to be Dryers. A thread for those who want support for moderating or reducing alcohol. Whatever you hope to do, whether it's to have more dry days, or be less wet when you do drink, come and join us for support.

Absolutely no judgement here, just friendly support and chat, the odd swear (lots of swears to be honest). All welcome, new and old tryers to dryers.

They really aren't scary Flossie, pair of love sponges really.

Filthy white pony has a muzzle on because spring grass is very sweet, not because he bites. and it's a twat to get on and off as we have to strap it to his face with another headcollar and baler twine otherwise he gets it off.

Managed to 'forget' tack only to get to yard and realise my lunging gear in with tack. Fml. So they both had a good brush and will try again later in the week.

Am debating gin already. Ds has absolutely exhausted me today with his constant speaking at me.

We have had everything today. Including a whinge that me, dh, dd and the dog are older than him and that's not fair. He's not happy that he's only older than the guinea pigs and the pet pigeon. And a melt down because I wouldn't him lead my mates (big and stroppy) pony out to the field. A strop because I wouldn't let him buy some trellis i Aldi. And a strop because their is a parcel next door that's not for him and Amazon are meanies who never send him anything.

Fml. Over and over and over.

Aww frouby, actually those pics are very gorgeous indeed!!

Your ds sounds just like my dd. Talks about random crap constantly. And then asks mental questions and gets stroppy that I don’t know the answers!! I now tell her to ‘call grandad’. Which obviously he’s very happy to oblige!! 🤪

Dionysa · 15/04/2019 17:27

❤️❤️ pony pics ❤️❤️ Frouby. I want one (a pony, that is).

I have lost track of how long ago my DC broke up, and we still have acres to go. Big fight last night about something to do with the internet. DD's life is unfair and horrible and she hates me because I won't re-re-decorate her room until I've decorated mine for the first time. It's funny, though, as I used to wish she would stop talking even just for 30 seconds when she was little, and now she just glares wordlessly at me (if she's not telling me how rubbish I am).

NC4, your date with yourself sounds fab!!

Longest, I hope you are having a good time with DCousin.

Have taken my spliff, but will not be dry tonight as I am going out with DP.

Flossie44 · 15/04/2019 17:44

Ahhh Dion..where you going?? God I’d love to go on a date. Hope you have fab indulgent time lovely 😊

NC4Now · 15/04/2019 17:58

My date seemed hell bent on getting me pissed last night. Hope yours is marginally better behaved Dion.

Nice pony pics! I'd love to ride a horse regularly.

Dionysa · 15/04/2019 18:06

Thank you, both. It will be nice to have a change of scenery. I'd be grateful for Macdonalds ATM. Not sure my date will be encouraging me to be AF, NC4 Grin.

leavingAqaba · 15/04/2019 18:16

frouby is that a laminitis prevention trick? (muzzle)
dion how come your kids have already been off school for ages? I can’t keep track of these bloody schools. I have 2 in different places and it’s hell for that. Have fun tonight.

leavingAqaba · 15/04/2019 18:18

My oldest (9) gives me The Stink Eye regularly. I know that’s an American expression but it sums it up for me. God knows when he is a teen.

Canshopwillshop · 15/04/2019 18:22

Oh Frouby, I’m quite scared of horses but your ponies look really sweet. My DS drives me mad sometimes too. Constantly talks and asks me questions - mainly concerning what our dog and 2 cats think about life and the universe and what are they saying etc. How the fuck do I know!! Obv can’t say that but I have to make stuff up and then he says ‘really’? ‘Why do they think that ...?’.

Dionysa - have a lovely evening

NC4 - I think you are v cool!

One week down and another week of hols to go. I love having them off really but it’s no good for my diet or being AF as I’m just in holiday mode eating chocolate and drinking wine. It’s my birthday this weekend too so my finger is firmly pressed on the fuck it button whilst I’m justifying it all and promising myself a strict diet, exercise, AF nights, magic herbs etc after Easter.

Flossie44 · 15/04/2019 18:22

Leaving - ‘the stink eye’ sounds like what my dd1 has thrown at me all day today!! She currently hates me..apparently I’m not sympathetic enough to her needs. I look at her wrong, speak to her wrong blah blah!! Life seems sooooo miserable when you’re 13yrs of age!! Today she’s brought the whole atmosphere down in our house. My other dd has told her to change her face 😂

Flossie44 · 15/04/2019 18:25

Can shop - my dd2 asks me what are dogs are saying too!! Wtf!!!!!
She once asked ds how many kids were in his college. He replied ‘2000’. She replied ‘including you?’ 🤪
I feel totally head fucked by the end of the day!!

Frouby · 15/04/2019 18:42

leaving it is definetly an anti lami technique, especially this time of year. We have spring grass combined with frost which pushes the sugar levels through the roof.

I have been very lucky with him, and (touch wood) never had lami. He's 12 this time and owned him since him being 4, and yars owner bred him so know he's never had it.

But I do winter him hard. No rugs (hence the yeti look) and no hard feed, just hay (not hayledge). I actually like him to look poor this time of year but he looks a bit well, hence the muzzle.

Canshopwillshop · 15/04/2019 19:01

😅 Flossie! Kids are weirdos! Love your DD telling her sister to change her face 😂

My DD has been lovely since getting back from skiiing yesterday. Think she missed us a bit.

NC4Now · 15/04/2019 19:03

DS1 used to ask maths questions because he was rubbish at it. Never when I was calmly paying him attention though. Usually when I was trying to turn right through two lanes of traffic in rush hour.
DS2 just witters endlessly about gaming, then I feel bad for not paying attention.

NC4Now · 15/04/2019 19:04

Ahh that’s nice Canshop.
I’ve just got DS1 home at the moment. DS2 wanted to stay a bit longer with his dad. It’s quite chilled in my house too.

flossie change her face Grin spot on that girl.

longestlurkerever · 15/04/2019 23:44

Evening all. Aw re pony pics! My kids have been pony riding today too. Told dd2 if she wanted to ride she had to pretend to be 4. She agreed. Then the moment she gets on it was "I am 3". Really? Aren't you v4. "no, I am 3 I will be 4 in June. When I am 4 I will go to my sister's school". Me, having filled in a false dob on form, petrified I am going to get struck off the solicitors' roll but we survived. Is lovely round here actually. We climbed a peak of peak District fame and had takeaway and plenty of wine with dcousin. Leaving dd1 at dsis's on way home for DM to look after along with DN. Am hoping this is an ok combination as dd1 loves toddler DN and there isn't the same rivalry as with DD,2 but will see.

Dion, hope your date was fab. Empathy hugs for all dealing with Easyer holiday squabbles. We are on the home straight now. Tomorrow I find out whether I filled in the form properly for dd2"s school place. Is mad where we live but in theory we get sibling priority so FX!

leavingAqaba · 16/04/2019 06:45

FX longest for the school form. I love the pony ridding/age story, so typical of kids.

Frouby · 16/04/2019 08:05

Hppe you get the school longest. Kids will get you shot, bless them. They are morally furious is you ask them to bend something, but if they think a lie will benefit them, they will look, all innocent and sweet as they lie out of their arses 😂😂.

Busy again today. Got electrician coming between 8 and 12, then dd at orthodontist this afternoon. Hoping it's the final appointment, it's in the nearest city to us but still about 12 miles away and in the centre so getting there and parking is a pita.

Going to do housework while I am stuck in, and also have some business admin to do later as well. Though I might do that tomorrow, just want 1 day without dragging laptops out. Sigh.

Next big housework job is mine and dhs bedroom. We will have our annual scrap about how many pairs of work socks he needs (not 112) and the fact that he ain't getting into size 36 inch jeans every again unless he stops drinking (he won't) and he definitely doesn't need 96 tshirts, 57 of which don't fit and won't ever fit (see jeans).

Then we have the shed at home to tackle. Fml. It's even worse.

Anglaise1 · 16/04/2019 12:08

Dion how was your evening with DP?
Frouby hope the orthodontist visit is OK. Mine is 30 miles away and with both DC needing braces I have spent a lot of time and money there. Braces are quite a racket in France, if you want to be rich, be an orthodontist. All kids have straight teeth.
Longest I hope your DD2 gets her school place.
2nd week of school holidays here. I'm up to my neck in accounts for 2018 because I never do them at the end of each month DS is at children's holiday club DD is with boyfriend, my father is coming out on Wednesday, I have gite changeovers and in general a really busy week and then getting married on Saturday which I don't really have time for. At least the weather forecast looks good but we haven't bought a ring yet. We are extremely disorganised but we need to do it quickly because of the house purchase.
Not AF this week, but hopefully moderate as a lack of sleep and the fuzzy feeling won't help get things done.

Flossie44 · 16/04/2019 15:53

Wow anglais!! This Saturday!!!!! Can’t wait for the photos. So excited for you both. X

Dionysa · 16/04/2019 20:17

Frouby, I hope the orthodontist went ok. I had also wondered about laminitis (my parents have several ponies, and it has been a Thing). It's good for my DD, though, as she loves them, and they get her off her phone. My DM picks up poo by hand and sticks it in a poo trough. DD still enjoys being on poo duty when she goes to stay with them.

Anglaise, Longest and Canshop, thank you for thinking of me. We had a good and very much not AF evening. However, DP upset me today so I have (sorry) bought gin. I'm being a bit experimental. It was a very small bottle, honestly. He introduced me to a friend as "a friend of mine". I wanted to say, but didn't: "I am not a fucking 'friend of yours'. I am your girlfriend. I give you regular blow jobs and iron your shirts and generally make your life nicer by loving you to bits and tolerating your shitty behaviour. Since when did a casual friend do any of the above?"

As I say, though, I didn't say this. I seethed silently and bought said bottle of gin.

Anglaise (again), I'm so excited about your wedding, though. I'm so glad it has worked out and that your DP has realised that you are so special. I can't believe it's the second wedding on this thread!

Leaving, the sodding endless holidays are an independent school thing. The more you pay, the less time they spend there. And, of course, their holidays sodding well have to be different. So I end up with about 2 weeks a year when both DC are actually at school. FML a gazillion times over. I'm adopting the 'stink eye' expression, as this sums DD up perfectly.

Longest, good luck with the school application. Schools are so stressful. I PMSL at the riding story, though. They get better at lying about their ages, honestly. DS is still buying child tickets for trains, despite being well over the age limit. DD, for her part, is trying to claim she is 16 (which she is decidedly not) so she can have her hair balayaged on a Groupon voucher. I am ashamed to say I agreed to lie for her, as she is so tall and old-looking that we will probably get away with it. She is still regretting the episode where she fell asleep with bleach and foil on her head in Year 7. 'Patchy' is a polite way to express the result. 😂

Frouby · 16/04/2019 20:59

Laminitus is a cunt. It's truely awful. Had my old girl put to sleep because of reoccurring bouts of it caused by cushings, which is another cunt. My yard owner is a bit lax about it, hence the tied on gimp mask with strict instructions that if he gets it off, he stays in ( which means more work and cost for her) so she's pretty hot onit at the minute.

Orthodontist was ok. 45 minutes to drive and park up, 3 minutes for an examination, she grinds her teeth slightly so has to go back in 4 month. Fuck sake.

Got day wrong for electrician, it's tomorrow ffs. So spent all morning waiting in for fuck all. Least house is tidy though.

And I have to work for an hour tomorrow morning. Sod law he will turn up while I am doing £3 spins on a casino and he will think I am so bored, desperate housewife with a gambling problem. 😜😜😜
