New thread in case the other fills up while I am busy this weekend.

Did I mention I get married tomorrow? 😁

Rubbish at clicky links but sure someone clever will be along to link the last thread.

This is a support thread for those wanting to reduce the amount you drink. There is no judgement on here. We are all struggling along with our own problems and lives and looking to cut down. You might only want a couple of weekends off. Or reduce the amount of days you drink. Or the amount you drink. Or both.

Whatever your starting point and whatever your goal come and join us for friendly chat and support.

Thanks for the post anglaise - will read over and over today to help with my resolve today going into day 5. A tricky one as friday. I really so badly want to be able to go 10 days - in my head I can control myself if I can manage 10 days now but I know days 5,6 and 7 are sent to test me. Will use all the tools I’ve built today. Sparkling water, evening meal early and filling, pref not spaghetti but something that doesn’t go so well with wine, cooked breakfast maybe, keep busy/out at “that time” 430 -7 is my danger zone - after 7 it’s in the bag! Please everybody - if there are any more tips I’ll use them all! Hella - I think your 1 day behind me - are you going to be AF this weekend at all? I’ve not had an AF weekend for at least 5 years and other than pregnancy I haven’t for about 25 years! I’m focusing on how proud I’ll be on Monday if I can make it. Woosey, you were having a couple with a take away last night - think you fancy a weekend off now? Good luck to all, especially those with real problems, I know I self medicate but if I told you all the problems that I blot out you’d say “get a grip - that’s nothing”.
One thing I have noticed, other than the judgey teens obviously watch my wine consumption lol is that I hate nodding off sober, I’m up tight and feel overwhelmed and worried about our worries but then once I’ve gone off - it’s deep - it’s brilliant but has started making me dread the lights out bit - I’ve learned I don’t want to think... is this normal?

Frouby · 08/06/2018 17:05

Evening all

Day 2 yesterday was a epic fail. Not only did I drink 4 cans of lager AND a can of cider we also had a chinese takeaway which always make me feel vile. Hmph. Woke up numerous times in the night and felt pretty rough all day.

At 4pm (danger oclock on a friday as dh finishes early) I dragged the dog and ds down to the lake. Just got home and going to have a nice long bath. Will hopefully be AF tonight. Up early for a few hours work and want to get to the allotment and ponies.

Looks like the BBQ with the stepford wives is cancelled 😂😂😂. Weather forecast not great. And even if it is on have decided not to drink. They don't deserve drunk, funny me. They can have my resting bitch face and judgemental glares instead. 😎

Frouby - resting bitch face 🤣🤣. Hey I a a fab way to think of it. Don’t drink.... we hey don’t deserve it!! Fab!! Win win!!

woosey35 · 08/06/2018 22:44

OMG just read last message back !! Sounds like I’ve had too much Pinot!!

Anglaise1 · 09/06/2018 06:13

Woosey 😉😂 you are funny, your use of exclamation marks always triples on a wet night 😉
Have a good weekend everyone, no barbecues here but a very muddy (probably) little 24km trail race on Sunday. Wet weekend as usual I am drinking the wine left over from my dad's visit last weekend. It does keep ok with a cork in it, honestly, you don't need to finish the bottle 😉

woosey35 · 09/06/2018 10:34

Anglais - how can you describe a 24km run as ‘little’ Shock Good luck, hope it goes well x

woosey35 · 09/06/2018 10:34

Ps - ‘left over wine from last weekend’ has never happened in my world Confused

Dionysa · 09/06/2018 19:32

Oh, Frouby, you do make me laugh. And I need it!!

Wet here. Too much else going on. Day One seems a long time ago.

Anglaise, you absolutely don't come across as a goody two-shoes. You come across as how I would like to be, if not now then in a couple of years' time once I have got everything else sorted out. Please keep posting! And good luck with your run.

Woosey, I froze half a bottle of wine the other day in an attempt not to drink it. It is still in the freezer, and I am resisting the temptation to microwave it, but only because I am on my second significant G&T.

Actually, I hope you are now on Day Six. I feel about Day One and Day Two as you feel about Days 5, 6 and 7. I hope you have managed to stay on the straight and narrow.

Frouby · 10/06/2018 08:01

I was wet too last night Dion. Was very thirsty after allotment so we had a quick half in the pub. Then a water cut at home so we utilised the contents of the fridge.

Am pleased with last week. Was dry Saturday, Tuesday and friday. Moderated on monday to 2 drinks. Am aiming for dry today and 2 more days this week. And moderation which I didn't achieve yesterday and feel rough this morning. But I had a lovely time being silly with DH. So worth the hangover.

Please can I join in? The one glass a night over winter (except Dece, ber) always creeps up to two or three over summer.

I've discovered alcohol free beer. Bavaria brand is actually nice and Becks Blue is tolerable. Once you get used to the taste it's not that different to an ordinary lager, and has the same hoppy, refreshing taste. Really helps with avoiding the tired, fuzzy, mid-evening slump I get when I drink.

woosey35 · 10/06/2018 12:12

Was home alone last night with dc so moderated to two glasses rather than whole bottle.
Well done frouby, sounds like you’ve been doing great.
Hi to everyone else.

Anglaise1 · 10/06/2018 14:13

Welcome to the thread Mina - it sounds like you don't drink much anyway, do you have any AF days or a glass of wine (or two) every day? I know some people swear by AF drinks and find them a very good substitute. I just prefer fizzy water tea and coffee if I don't drink the real thing.
Woosey yay you see it is possible to leave a bottle unfinished Wink. I hope you slept well as a result! As far as the race is concerned, the last race I did 3 weeks ago was 67km with 2.6km of elevation so today's race was a walk in the park in comparison, despite all the mud! I was really happy with my time and came in 3rd woman overall, not bad for an oldie of 52 Grin

iamyourequal · 10/06/2018 21:25

Hi folks. I’ve enjoyed reading all your catch ups. You all sound such a fun bunch. Well done on your race Anglaise! Unfortunately my first week in the group didn’t go too well. Monday only AF day. I had a really upsetting week at work but I’ve had a nice weekend with the kids and doing a little gardening and feeling a littler calmer to go back in to face work tomorrow. I hope you all have a good week. I’m finishing last of last nights bottle of fizz, so not tempted by it tomorrow!

MinaPaws · 10/06/2018 23:41

hi Anglaise
I drink every day and when socialising I really knock it back. Today was AF and I found myself wanting a wine or a brandy all night long which feels a bit dependent on it. I'd like not to crave wine by 5pm every day. I have a pretty low tolerance, so even two glasses makes me feel tired and woozy and the rest of the night is wiped out.

woosey35 · 11/06/2018 08:55

Who’s up for a 3 night AF run starting today??
I’ve only managed 1 AF in the last 6 weeks probably. (That was last week). I really need to feel more alert and in control.
Starting today!! (As always!! 😂)

Actuallycando5 · 11/06/2018 09:33

Woosey - I defo will try for 3AF in a row. Last week I managed 4 and felt brilliant! Was well on the way for 5 then at the last minute, 5pm on Friday to be precise, I totally caved and have had 3 nights knocking back wine. Am DETERMINED to get 5 this week! My aim for June is to end the month with more dry and than wet and at the moment I’m a day behind so that’s my insentive too!

woosey35 · 11/06/2018 11:01

Wahoo. Two of us in!! Round up round up....any more participants??

Frouby · 11/06/2018 12:12

Me! Possibly. Maybe.

Did 3 dry in total past week and aiming for the same this week. But mondays are usually damp as ds has swimming at 3.30p. And I fecking hate swimming. Especially as I have to get in with him. And he is a little sod.

But I am definetly up for 3 out of 7.

Was damp yesterday. But moderated. 1 x half a lager at allotment pub, 1/3 of a bottle of wine and about 300ml of fruit cider. Drunk in a prosecco glass with lots of ice. And we finished on the plot about 2pm so it could have been a lot worse.

Gin this week rather than wine/lager. At least gin doesn't have as many calories.

Bloody need a gin now after listening to moany mcmoany pants mate for 2 hours this morning. Christ she causes herself problems. Then moans fucking constantly about them. Have stopped offering sensible suggestions to her problems as she doesn't listen anyway. Mainly because doing something about her problems would mean her taking some responsibility.

Housework this afternoon after this coffee and a shower. And I have to shave my bloody legs for bloody swimming. Fml.

Frouby you crack me up and sound like me!! Getting in at swimming lessons would piss me right off but luckily neither of mine having any atm.

I had a wet week in the end but I kinda knew it would be- had some tough decisions to make including turning down a job that just won’t fit in with the kids and bastard ex H reared his head once again, cba to bore you with the details but suffice to say it’s been an acrimonious 3 year divorce, and the shitbag is refusing to pull his finger out or properly move on despite giving up on his marriage and kids yonks ago Angry we’ve had a clean break and thankfully my new partner is great about it but Jesus it’s like dealing with a kid. Wah.

Anyway on the positive side had a good weekend with DP and the kids, a good long walk and then afternoon trip to pub with fab garden for the kids - dangerous... and yes it was ! Few large glasses of vino and a jolly good time had by all.

Had a bottle yesterday, just because. Hope I can get to the point where that doesn’t happen...

Today is a Day 1, I literally just don’t feel like drinking so I’m going with it!

I’ve got a friends bbq after school tomorrow so i know I will have a drink, but there’s no reason why I can’t do a dry Wednesday.
Saturday will be dry as I’m doing the 5k race for life with DD1 Sunday morning - nothing like your amazing runs Anglasise and tbf there’s no way DD will run it all but a good thing to do all the same. A good distraction for me on Father’s Day which I’m not a fan of - pretty much non contact with my own father despite lots of attempts to involve him with DC over the years and as mentioned above father of DC is a knob.

I do have wonderful friends and DP is becoming more involved with DC, nice to see that relationship blossoming and lots to keep positive about.

Life’s stresses will always be there but I dare say they are best tackled without a hangover.

Onwards and upwards folks!

Dionysa · 11/06/2018 13:03

Quickly reading while at work... Last week was a soaking wet fail, all things considered. Can't do 3 days as a friend is coming round tomorrow night and I know she will bring wine. But I think my aim for this week is more dry than wet days, and to try to moderate on the wet ones. The aim, I say. And if I had to go anywhere near a swimming pool, it wouldn't happen.

Anglaise1 · 11/06/2018 13:19

Life’s stresses will always be there but I dare say they are best tackled without a hangover.

I can confirm that they are MUCH easier to tackle without a hangover and/or bad quality sleep.
I'm with you on the 3 or 4 days AF as usual. Keep busy in your trigger period. Run, walk, clean a cupboard, anything but just keep busy.
Good luck with your 5k run on Saturday Hella - it doesn't matter how far you run just doing it is important. Run/walk for your DD would be great, that's how mine started. I did a relay with her last week, it was fantastic for both of us to share an activity like that.
Mina I was like you (although craving a little later in the evening) and thought I had a problem, you will probably find that a few days on the trot of AF will help get you out of the habit. It was what I needed to do, and still do. If I couldn't have managed that I'd have given up completely.

woosey35 · 11/06/2018 17:45

Arghhhhhhh.....looked out my window and can see neighbour sat in garden with a cold bottle of corona!!!!!! Fml

Hellabella80 · 11/06/2018 17:58

woosey if is any consolation I’ve just not combed two kids (mine) in a completely dry house with no way of obtaining booze.
You can do this !! 💪🏼

Hellabella80 · 11/06/2018 17:59

*nit combed

Nobody’s favourite activity.

woosey35 · 11/06/2018 19:49

Hella Bella - you totally win!!!!! Not combing is up there on the crap things to do that need alcohol to make them better!!
