Not dry january. But less booze in general. Anyone else?

I am posting this thread because I really want to reduce the amount of alcohol I drink.

I was going to do dry January but think that is too much for me. And when I do drink again I will revert back to bad habits.

On a normal week I would have 1 or 2 g and ts mon to thurs. Bottle of wine on a friday. Then either a couple of beers or a couple of g and ts on a Saturday night. Nothing on sunday.

Over Christmas (which started for us mid December as we had a holiday) I have drank every day. Never been drunk drunk but 4 or 5 drinks every day.

I feel fat, bloated and lethargic. I want to cut my drinking down to a couple of nights a week. Friday and Saturday. Or thursday and friday. DP also drinks most days (more than me too) and we both need to address our relationship with alcohol.

I didn't drink last night and won't tonight either. And I feel 100% better already. We get married in May and I want to lose weight and improve my health.

Does anyone else want to join this thread for support? I know there is the dry January thread but I will be drinking (probably) 2 days a week so dont want to post on there and knock any penguins off the ice.

Currently drinking ginger ale with loads of ice and contemplating a shower and a cupp of tea later with the last of the Christmas cake (diet starts tomorrow) 😁

Wow everyone is still rocking this AF malarkey!! Well done all!!!!
I’m on a camp bed next to dd in hosp so absolutely no chance here of being anything other than AF!!

aprilivy · 17/05/2018 05:49

Oh, Woosey. What a trial. I think you're holding up admirably. Hospitals would probably make a killing if they had a bar on campus Smile
Anglaise, I guess there is hope for me yet. My ankles are treating me ok, but my new job involves standing on tile floors. It's not really that many hours a week so I should be able to manage a light jog around the neighborhood.
Athena, I'm so glad you've found someone you actually want to snuggle with, even though I know you've been going through some troubles with him. Can't live with 'em. Can't live without 'em, as it were. (or, can't live with em, can't shoot em, as is sometimes said Hmm)
Frouby, I've had luck with getting tickets dismissed if you're willing to go to court to argue your piece. Of course, that's over here and there is always the risk that they say no and you're stuck with court fees, but you have a very plausible case, I'd say. I'd also say don't worry too much about it til after your big day. Enjoy and savor that!

I've had mixed success. I joined in yesterday's big day of sobriety. I wasn't even feeling that bad from the night before, I just didn't really want it. Today I knew I'd have some as I was joining dh at his chess club (me and the other chess widow enjoy ourselves,) but I had a glass after my errands were done and another while I was brewing some beer (as you must.) By the time I got to the club I didn't even want much more, but after I'd had a couple I did indeed. So much for the off switch.
Now I've had a conversation with dh about staying up a bit late and am enjoying a glass of wine while pouring out to you folks. I don't feel too bad as it was mostly planned and I'll be fine tomorrow, but I wish I could take better advantage of those times when I can leave it as easy as take it. My early bloaty feeling should help with that, but now I feel fit as a fiddle and could go all night! Sigh.

Morning all

Had a few drinks last night. About 4 bottles of Budweiser which I am ok with. Though did have a broken nights sleep mainly due to salty gammon steak for tea.

Not drinking tonight. Want a good kip tonight and friday. Will only have 1 or possibly 2 g and ts on friday. Enough to relax with but not enough to do any damage.

Bloody ds is feeling poorly tho. Arrrggghhhh. He is a bit hot, says his legs and his head hurts. Fml. Given him calpol and hoping if he has a day off nursery he is ok for tomorrow and more importantly saturday.

Have flowers to sort today and my final dress fitting so he will have to come to those with me.

And have added calpol and ibuprofen to the List Of Things We Must Pack. Sigh.

Fortunately he is pretty tough and usually back to normal after 24 hours. We can always take it in turns to sit with him in one of our rooms on Saturday if he is properly poorly.

He is demanding jammy dodgers and his tablet now so can't be too bad.

Have just noticed this thread is almost full! How did that happen?

Will start a new one later today. Anyone any ideas for a title?

April, it's that defective off switch again... Confused

Frouby!!!!! I can't believe the wedding is so close now. How is your DS?? I am keeping everything crossed for you.

Will not be AF tonight, as going out with DP (who has been quite horrid today). But it's planned, so that's better than the old having-a-drink-just-because-it's-6-PM thing. Busy work day, so that has kept me occupied.

Woosey, how is your DD?

As for the new thread... I can't believe we've got to 1,000 posts. Frouby, you have to do the honours on the new one as this is your thread. No ideas for a title, but I liked your original one. I'm so glad you started it.

Arrgghhh.

Got a poorly DS. Burny hot, threw up last night, very off it. Could his timing be any better?

Hoping for a miracle recovery today. Or I can see tomorrow being spent taking it in turns to sit with him in our room.

Fml.

Woosey how is your dd? Are you home yet?

Got loads to do today. Including washing loads of my bedding. Sigh.

I keep repeating 'don't get stressed, don't get stressed, don't reach for gin, don't get stressed'.

Luckily I have a big family, all got dcs, so if DS is really poorly we can take it in turns to sit with him if necessary in our room or in the room I have booked for my mam and the dcs. Calpol seems to be doing it's magic and have ibuprofen too.

Get married at 1.30pm. Need to time a calpol dose for about 12 to get is down the aisle!

Fml. Could his timing be any better?

Oh frouby, that’s rubbish timing!!!! Let’s hope it’s a 24hr thing and he will be raring to go again tomorrow!! Will keep everything crossed for you.
Hope you have a magnificent day. Hold on to every second..it goes wayyyyyy too quick!!

Dd got home last night from hosp. I walked in and straight to the fridge.....

AthenaAshton · 18/05/2018 15:03

Oh, Frouby. You couldn't make it up. I have every single thing crossed for you now. Children just have the very best timing, don't they. Have been thinking about you all morning, and have just got back from work and switched the laptop on to find out how you are! Love the new thread title - will look it up.

Woosey, very glad your DD is back now. I'd have been in the fridge, too.

Wet last night as I went out with DP. However, relatively restrained, as I had just over half a bottle and didn't wake up with Beer Fear. Also had a glass at lunchtime, which is a particular challenge, as I then want to carry on. Going to have a very strong coffee now and then do some digging in the hope of warding off the urge to continue...
