Interesting in a Lucien Freud sort of way, but sorry not fab in an attractive way.

All that size zero palavar is unhealthy, but so is that.

BennyAndSwoon · 17/02/2009 14:09

It made me think of Rubens.

I agree that she is probably not any healthier than size 0, but to have any alternative is at least a little refreshing.

Shame that it is a gimmick and that we can't have a more healthy body image as a norm.

the nipplesssness is weird

Tortington · 17/02/2009 14:13

its really horrible, not aesthetically pleasing at all

mehgalegs · 17/02/2009 14:20

We had a model a similar size to her when I did life drawing years ago. She was my favourite, I loved drawing her curves.

I rather like that pic.

TsarChasm · 17/02/2009 14:29

I agree about the drawing Mehgalegs. I used to do life drawing too. Much easier and more satifying to draw fatter rather than thin people.

awful tattoos...bleurgh.

I just can't see why people think she looks nice; she is grossly overweight and wears far too much make up. What's to like?

AnyFucker · 17/02/2009 14:48

kerrymumbles, in a word...no

ProfessorCalculus · 17/02/2009 14:49

I'm sorry but those rolls of fat are not nice to look at.

Frasersmum123 · 17/02/2009 14:51

I dont like her make-up.

elsiepiddock · 17/02/2009 14:51

I agree.

Big fat naked woman = not nice to look at.

sassy · 17/02/2009 14:52

Actually I think this is grotty.

Sleazy and unattractive.

But then I think the same about lots of the (massively more common) underweight cover pis that are around, e.g. those "iconic" pics of a young Kate Moss looking like an 11yo boy in the Obsession ads. And don't gt me started on the current men's mag covers - underweight 18yo with vastly inflated fake boobs and lips.

FFS. Why have we lost sight of normal, healthy beauty in women?

AnyFucker · 17/02/2009 14:52

but not just the aesthetics of it, prof.....

they are unhealthy, they are nothing to celebrate and certainly not to aspire to

sassy · 17/02/2009 14:52

Ooh that was quite ranty!

AnyFucker · 17/02/2009 14:53

but true sassy, very true

Sidge · 17/02/2009 14:57

Both extremes are unhealthy.

I think the picture of Beth Ditto is quite unpleasant actually, probably because to me it feels like the magazine is going for the "hey look at our mag, we're really edgy and controversial putting the fat bird on the cover".

IMO it's just as distasteful as having a front cover with this picture on

sassy · 17/02/2009 15:01

Jeez, sidge! That is scarrry.

ProfessorCalculus · 17/02/2009 15:01

Wow, that's a scary pic sidge. She's little more than skin and bone.

AnyFucker · 17/02/2009 15:01

omg !!

pass the hobnobs...

brimfull · 17/02/2009 15:04

we should be looking at average weight woman on front covers

georgimama · 17/02/2009 15:08

I have often pondered this and find it strange - why do fat people look less fat, and more attractive, with their clothes off? She certainly does, even allowing for the airbrushing (which is skin tone only).

MrsMattie · 17/02/2009 15:12

I like Beth Ditto's attitude and vibe. She seems like a cool chick.

I don't think the picture is particularly inspiring, but it's certainly less disturbing to me than the majority of horrifically underweight teens I have forced in my face on billboards and magazine covers on an almost daily basis.
