What do you get called by friends of your child?

What does your small child's friends call you?

My DD6 always calls her friends parents Mr or Mrs Surname. One of her friends called me by my first name. DD6 thought this was very rude and said so.

I've never instructed her that I can recall to say Mr/Mrs Surname!

What happens in your world?

First name!
I’ve taught lots of them, but it’s still first name out of school.

Her bestie calls me Auntie, some call me by my first name and one calls me “Mrs Sofa” in the style of Perry from Kevin and Perry. Cracks me up every time 😂

(DS name) mum. Even when they know my name it doesn’t occur to them to use it.

The confident ones call me by my first name. The less confident ones don't call me anything, make eye contact or say anything directly to me.

I don’t think any of DS’ friends know my name and surnames seem to be less of a thing these days (or, at least, DS is unaware of any of his friends having surnames). I’m ’DS’ mum’ most of the time.

BearSoFair · Yesterday 21:31

I was always mostly first name but DS2's best friend from primary always called me 'Mrs Surname' (which begins with a B), now they're teens and if I see him out and about I get "Yo, Miss B!" 😂

My teenage daughter’s friends call me Mama first name. That’s also how she refers to her friends Mums. I think it’s really cute!

First name but I was brought up to call friends parent M or Mrs X. But that was way back when (60/70s). Heck my DD calls her professors by their first name!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · Yesterday 21:54

First name.

I prefer it. I want them to feel comfortable around me.

OriginalSkang · Yesterday 21:58

First name. If they said 'Ms Skang' I would find it really weird and formal and would ask them to call me 'Original'

This reminds me of when I used to call my friend's (let's call her Lucy Locket) mother "Mrs Lucy Locket's mum". I now know why she always smiled!

Thats so cute.

First name. I hated calling friends' parents Auntie X as a kid and spent much of my late teens/twenties agonising over how to address (older) adults.

I used to get a lot of that "Sylvia'smum" as one word. it reminded me of how surnames evolved.

Most of them called me Mrs. X (not my surname but the kids' surname) to start with - mostly because they wouldn't have heard my name and then I'd say call me First name.

Gealach · Yesterday 22:31

My first name or X’s Mum. Depending on the age. It would make me feel so old if they were calling me Mrs Surname. It’s not rude nowadays to refer to adults by their first name.
