No I would not… the referendum has happened and people need to come to terms with it!
The politicians ignored the results and never put anything in place before the leave date!
But I just don’t believe in another vote just because people don’t like the outcome

Yes. Was the wrong decision to leave and there have been no gains from it.

I don't really understand this logic.

If people don't like the outcome - because the reality of Brexit is not what they thought it was going to be - then there can be no turning back and everyone should just have to live with the consequences of those poor decisions forever?

And future generations should also just have to suck up the fact that they have been shafted by stupidity of those who came before them?

Should we never be allowed another vote on the issue, or is there a specific time period for which you think we should all be made to suffer before we can start to repair the damage?

Needacalminginfluence · 18/10/2026 08:48

We should never have left the EU.
Yes i think we should rejoin but the state of the UK and the rest of the world with the rise of right wing politics, Trump the mad dictator wreaking havoc, the total decline in any standards of morality and decency, and the environmental challenges the world faces make me despair that it, or anything, will make life any better.

MyAgileUser · 18/10/2026 08:50

No. Sadly.
The EU we left is not the EU that is there now. And they have A LOT of problems.

Would have been better to stay in and try and change things from within.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2026 08:54

As a trading bloc and it's original purpose sure. As this paralysed bloated politcal union that is mired in inaction ,bureaueacy and corruption .......no.

Have you seen what's coming out of France and Milan and Brussels ? And Germany ?
Do you see these places going even further left in the near future ?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 18/10/2026 08:55
  • people are calling Macron the mad dictator also.
Pixietop · 18/10/2026 09:01

No.
We would be held to ransom in our desperation to rejoin. I don't believe that there would be any benefit in rejoining from a weaker position, it would cost the country far too much.
The country made it's decision, we need to focus on improving what we've got.
Changing our minds constantly just shows weakness, just look at what the political parties have done to themselves with the constant change of leader.

I'd rather see people demonstrating about the cost of living than over asylum seekers any day.

No

Sirzy · 18/10/2026 09:11

I don’t know. I never wanted us to leave and I still strongly believe that was the wrong choice.

However, I’m not sure rejoining now would work. We would end up with a far worse deal, I think it would make the division in the country even worse than it is now and I’m not sure the benefits would outweigh the problems.

What we need to do is get the right foundations in place for a proper working relationship with the EU as our closest neighbours.

ThatshallotBaby · 18/10/2026 09:12

Yes I would, even now. We were bloody idiots to leave in the first place.

EEexpat · 18/10/2026 09:22

@MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack

the fact that they have been shafted by stupidity of those who came before them?

People are free to choose for themselves how they vote. To my knowledge, there are only two requirements to vote in the UK. Be on the electoral register and turn up.

Maybe you would like to turn the clock back to the time when only privileged males were allowed to vote?

As for a time frame for another vote, how about the same as before, 41 years (1975 to 2016)?

However, to answer the question, my answer is:

NO

Reasons are already listed on this thread and the previous thread.

This.

mysticbob · 18/10/2026 09:34

Yes. We should never have left. The Leave campaign was based on lies about the benefits and none have materialised, which is exactly what those of us who wanted to remain could see would be the case. Life is worse and more expensive and less free than it was. Racists have been given carte blanche. It’s grim.

Sally2791 · 18/10/2026 09:34

Yes.The fact that we don’t like the results of leaving is precisely why we should go back! However I think we should wait until there is a sizeable majority otherwise the discontent will persist

EEexpat · 18/10/2026 09:43

To those who have said yes, there are more questions:

Are the EU obliged to accept an application from the UK?

If they reject the application (which they are entitled to do) what will remain supporters do about it?

If the EU do accept the application, how many years will it take to reach agreement on a deal?

Are the EU obligated to give the same terms as before?

Of course people are free to choose how they vote. I haven't suggested otherwise. Nor have I suggested that anyone should be denied the opportunity to vote. I can only presume that you've attempted to introduce this spurious line of argument in an attempt to misrepresent what I'm saying.

We live in a democracy and people are of course, free to make monumentally stupid choices if they so choose. My question was not whether they should be presented from making bad choices,, but rather whether they and future generations should be forced to live with the consequences of those stupid choices forever, or whether they should be allowed to say that they (or their parents/grandparents etc) got it wrong and they've changed their minds.

If they remain convinced that their original choices were the right ones, then they will be entirely at liberty to make the same choices again.

BelleEpoque27 · 18/10/2026 10:04

Yes, of course we should rejoin. It was stupid to leave in the first place, that has been very clearly demonstrated by the last 10 years, why on earth would we stick with the decision just because it was what people voted for?

The EU have made it clear we'd be welcomed back in, and given everything going on with the US and Russia at the moment, it would seem extremely sensible to ally ourselves with our neighbours.

EEexpat · 18/10/2026 10:07

@Sally2791

However I think we should wait until there is a sizeable majority otherwise the discontent will persist

That would be an argument of it’s own. Who would decide what constitutes a sizeable majority?

If such a majority was not achieved in a vote, would the UK not be in the same position as now with some wanting to vote over and over until they get the result they want?

dontcookwontcook · 18/10/2026 10:10

I assume if we vote to reapply (regardless of the terms because some pro-eu people would accept anything) we’ll not be allowed another referendum ever again?

vote out and multiple referendums
vote in and that’s your lot guys!
