So I finally got TikTok and now I understand: It's so addictive!

Had Facebook and X but never TikTok

It's so good. I never knew how creative people are. I love musicals and someone's just done One Day More singing all the roles.

I am suddenly getting awesome rugby tries and referee mic drops on my feed,
Comedians from around the world
Impressions of people going hiking
Americans complaining about Europe
People reacting to Americans complaining about Europe
Europeans telling me how to behave in Europe
More musicals
And some news as well

I can just see how addictive it is. I've shared some of the musical stuff with my family as they are Les Mis fans. But they haven't got TikTok so I've told them to get it.

If I had been a teenager when this was around, I can totally see how I could be addicted. DS however is not a TikTok user. He's more Instagram so I can't share videos with him

Unless someone knows the best way to share Tiktok videos to Instagram easily

Anyone else recently discovered TikTok?
Any good accounts to follow?

My recommendation is to delete it now.

You'll lose hours of your life doom scrolling. People are creative outside of a screen, too. It's better to share an experience than a tik tok.

Pennyplant19 · 10/10/2026 09:01

Yep, delete now. You’ll end up down rabbit holes for hours….

Clemdfandango · 10/10/2026 09:02

If you long press on the video it gives you the option to download, then you can share it with people who don't have TikTok. I assume that will work with Instagram too.

I love TikTok!

Samewrinklesnewname · 10/10/2026 09:03

This is precisely why I made the conscious decision NOT to use TikTok!😂

Maisymouse2 · 10/10/2026 09:03

Cant stand rhe name..refuse to use it.

Skibididoo · 10/10/2026 09:03

I had to delete it but now that you also get similar videos on Instagram and Facebook I’ve had to take steps to remove access to them. It’s scary how addictive it is.

Bubstar · 10/10/2026 09:08

I watched only a handful videos and never downloaded the app. I don't trust it and no I'm not a crackpot, I work in tech.

You sound like someone who has already been brainwashed OP. Or someone who is being paid to advertise it.
I find your post worrying. But then I despise Tiktok.

luckylavender · 10/10/2026 09:11

I downloaded it for one evening to see what all the fuss was about. Then deleted it. Owned by China. Created to warp your mind.

I never knew how creative could be with Les Miserables.

I also came across rehearsals for Billy Elliot at Sunderland which is one of my favourite shows so I managed to get tickets for it

Solidarity, Solidarity forever....

This is an amazing bit of creative theatre you just can't get to see

Thanks!!

I can now bore my family Whatsapp with videos!

I'm the opposite. I put the app on my phone and got bored quickly. Deleted it after a week.

Why would I click on your link?

I don't think a bit of creative theatre - if that's what it is- makes up for all the negative and destructive influence that Tiktok has on the world.

I really am wondering why you are so intent on promoting Tiktok.

If it really has taken over your life to this extent i think.you should seriously think about getting help.

moonraker0 · 10/10/2026 11:59

Doomscrolling on TikTok is no different than doomscrolling on MN. The general consensus on MN is to sneer at anyone who has TikTok, it’s one of those things that’s frowned upon like fabric softer and toilet brushes.

TickedOffAndALittleFedUp · 10/10/2026 12:08

I find TikTok really tedious and don't get the love for it at all. I much prefer Mumsnet, I love the randomness of things people talk about and all the different opinions and sometimes it's truly amazing for helping someone in need.

Noodge · 10/10/2026 12:12

I like it for gardening tips, recipes and the like.

I ended up in a group of like-minded people and we'd meet up to chat in 'lives' sometimes. That's dwindled now.I think It's like any other app, It's how you use it.

I advertised my small business on there too and had a lot of interest drummed up, so that was nice.

I absolutely agree that if you're not careful you can spend all day on it,and the China connection worries me.

elperil · 10/10/2026 12:22

Is it the same as Instagram? I am on that to follow my history channels and a bit of travel info. That's all, no sharing, nothing else. The name TikTok to me brings to mind a bunch of teens constantly liking and sharing bullshit stuff. But what do I know!

fumingrightnow1 · 10/10/2026 12:26

Yes it can I love tiktok but it can also be really toxic depending on your algorithm. I think for adults its fine but I don't allow any off my children to use it

Echobelly · 10/10/2026 12:30

I quite like tiktok and have found some interesting humour/political/sociological commenters on there but I don't find it that addictive. I can't actually spend that long scrolling because it's a bit too much after 5 or 10 minutes. I only feel like checking it briefly a couple of times a day and some days I don't look at it at all.

BigGra · 10/10/2026 12:32

I cannot abide people sharing TikTok’s on WhatsApp’s groups. I know I’m being weird unreasonable but I find it tediously annoying.

CatamaranViper · 10/10/2026 12:40

I love it!
I get recipes on there, hair tutorials, fashion tips etc. I like watching skits related to my industry too.
However you can end up going down political rabbit holes so gan canny.

How's Mumsnet doing for you? Advanced search is fascinating.

I can see why. I can see how it leads to infinite scrolling.

But someone's just done the confrontation between Valjean and Javert whilst in a car wash and it's hilarious

Laura Ramoso
Marcello Hernandez
Paul longley, he's British

Tiktok is so good but so addictive
