So I finally got TikTok and now I understand: It's so addictive!

Had Facebook and X but never TikTok

It's so good. I never knew how creative people are. I love musicals and someone's just done One Day More singing all the roles.

I am suddenly getting awesome rugby tries and referee mic drops on my feed,
Comedians from around the world
Impressions of people going hiking
Americans complaining about Europe
People reacting to Americans complaining about Europe
Europeans telling me how to behave in Europe
More musicals
And some news as well

I can just see how addictive it is. I've shared some of the musical stuff with my family as they are Les Mis fans. But they haven't got TikTok so I've told them to get it.

If I had been a teenager when this was around, I can totally see how I could be addicted. DS however is not a TikTok user. He's more Instagram so I can't share videos with him

Unless someone knows the best way to share Tiktok videos to Instagram easily

Anyone else recently discovered TikTok?
Any good accounts to follow?

Try reading a book instead

I cannot abide people sharing TikTok’s on WhatsApp’s groups. I know I’m being weird unreasonable but I find it tediously annoying.

Edited

Just the small family one...

No complaints yet, And I haven't complained about my Dad's holiday photos yet

My niece is a hugely successful influencer thanks to TikTok. The only reason I go on there is to see her content (very sporadic, makes her over £200k a year).

But I don’t share the love of the platform. There are so many absolute morons on there. I follow no-one, so my FYP is pretty random. But I despair at what I am shown. Barely a double figured IQ between them. My kids, early 20s, absolutely refuse to even look at TikTok.

RaraRachael · 10/10/2026 17:05

Most of the things people spend hours watching on Tik Tok just seem so pointless to me. I'd rather go for a walk or read a book.

Each to their own.

Even my 'always outside and a total technophobe' dh is addicted to TT.

I do agree with others to be careful, I have adhd and it ticks all the boxes for me because most clips are moments long so I never get bored but I can end up scrolling and scrolling like a robot for hours. I watch anything from 80's music collections, nostalgic stuff from my childhood years, funny cat and dog clips, tasty recipes and things making me laugh till I cry but there are very sad clips and accounts too and sometimes I end up bawling my eyes out.

All in all I do love it though and find it a fun and informative place, you just have to be careful what you like on there as you don't want to set your algorithm to miserable or disturbing stuff.

You can actually do both you know, I can manage it as well as having a live, managing my household, exercising and caring for an elderly parent.

For some of us Tik Tok can be something fun and enjoyable.

Sunbringer · 10/10/2026 19:54

Yes, after a year I deleted it again. I was wasting so much of my life on it and my attention span was getting noticeably worse, I’d get bored within minutes of doing anything else. Much better again now without it.

Sunbringer · 10/10/2026 19:56

Although I’m not sure why you’re impressed by ‘impressions of people going hiking’ or ‘referee mic drops’. What dross.

The issue with it being informative is most of the information isn’t fact checked or peer reviewed in any way. It’s a misinformation vortex.

Doomscrolling on TikTok is no different than doomscrolling on MN. The general consensus on MN is to sneer at anyone who has TikTok, it’s one of those things that’s frowned upon like fabric softer and toilet brushes.

And the multiple 'Sorry it's a Daily Fail link' when Mumsnet is absolutely the core readership of the DM 😂

I’m watching gardening tips and checking out hotels before I book them. I don’t need this information fact checked or peer reviewed.

Ragdollowner · 10/10/2026 20:52

I love TT for the funny animal reels and rescue stories. My FYP is full of dog and horse rescue stories, don’t have either! I do agree that it can be a time waster though!

I love hiking and walking.

But I just can't get enough of Les Mis.

Who knew seeing someone do an impression of the last verse of One Day More in the car could be so addictive?

Me too. I had it for five minutes. D D likes it and DH uses it for cooking and DIY but he had to put a limit on

But yes, it is an easy option for fake news. I follow a wide variety of people on there and you can easily see how they can be manipulated

I am being radicalised into a hatred of Americans visiting Europe for the first time and complaining there's no Air Con

Good for you. Children are watching videos of people telling them nutrition and diet information that is completely inaccurate and dangerous.

Are you drunk?

GingerBeverage · 10/10/2026 21:28

This reminds me of the Always Sunny episode where they describe crack as ‘moreish’.

Doesn't float my boat. I prefer a full cast. The guy has a nice voice though.

Minasama · 10/10/2026 21:38

That’s funny because I find my feed is full of utter tripe.

TheBluebird · 10/10/2026 21:41

Sharing tiktok videos should be a crime .

Meandthegherkin · 10/10/2026 21:51

I deleted it, it just seemed liked a more rambling version of Instagram

Empress13 · 11/10/2026 00:29

Are you 14 OP?

Fairygoblin · 11/10/2026 01:00

It’s fascinating! All sorts of things are thrown at me, Irish dancing, guinea pigs, Les Mis, comedy acts, goat/sheep farms, kpop, satire/parody. Instagram is so boring in comparison. And I dip in and out of TikTok and know when to stop scrolling
