So I finally got TikTok and now I understand: It's so addictive!

Had Facebook and X but never TikTok

It's so good. I never knew how creative people are. I love musicals and someone's just done One Day More singing all the roles.

I am suddenly getting awesome rugby tries and referee mic drops on my feed,
Comedians from around the world
Impressions of people going hiking
Americans complaining about Europe
People reacting to Americans complaining about Europe
Europeans telling me how to behave in Europe
More musicals
And some news as well

I can just see how addictive it is. I've shared some of the musical stuff with my family as they are Les Mis fans. But they haven't got TikTok so I've told them to get it.

If I had been a teenager when this was around, I can totally see how I could be addicted. DS however is not a TikTok user. He's more Instagram so I can't share videos with him

Unless someone knows the best way to share Tiktok videos to Instagram easily

Anyone else recently discovered TikTok?
Any good accounts to follow?

To share a TikTok with someone who doesn’t have it - you can click on the video and download it. Some users don’t allow their videos to be downloaded.

I deleted TT I had it a few months, bcz it was boring. <shrug>
I didn't doomscroll, I did like parkour feats for a little while & silly humour, but not the music or most the hyper flashes of it and really not much worth seeing.

I disagree, I have health issues and I only follow NHS doctors or certified health professionals on SM. In fact if it wasn't for Tik Tok I wouldn't have stumbled across the two fantastic doctors who have helped me treat my chronic health issues which no NHS doctor has had any success with.

There are some wonderful people on that platform but like anything you have to do your research.

It shouldn't be dismissed because of a few accounts spreading misinformation, the whole internet is full of quacks etc, we just have to be careful and mindful, it's the world we live in so education is key. Tik tok and similar are not going anywhere so we have to learn how to use these platforms correctly like anything in life.

You’re vastly overestimating how many people are willing to only follow verified sources and actually check what they are watching. Propaganda and radicalisation occurs on such platforms and that’s without the Russian bots sowing divide and hatred between groups including men and women.

See British people tend to recognise sarcasm and British humour in a reply.
Americans don't really, although some do.

I was looking forward to you raising concerns about following the Far Right

And play into your bored hands...?🙄

Right. Sure.

Well my mother is 93 and lives alone, gets out for coffee and lunch etc. To be fair, she doesn't do holidays anymore.

Soooo many holes in the OPs posts.

😂😂😂 calm down Miss Marple, OP has said she likes TikTok there’s no need to launch an investigation.

I was really really hoping she'd bite

That said, I do follow Far Right people on Social media as well as many other people with a range of opinions I agree and disagree with.

It's useful and interesting to see what people are being exposed to and the thought processes and reasons for justifying their beliefs

Ignoring them or censoring them won't make them go away.

And people are absolutely right. Social media can easily radicalise people. It's so easy to be manipulated, to stay in an echo chamber, to believe fake videos and to get angrier and angrier. I have no doubt there are people on MN who have been radicalised by social media as they stick in their echo chambers and just see a particular view. I bet they've seen fake videos or images and have believed they are true because it confirms their beliefs.

On the other hand, if it hadn't been for TikTok, I wouldn't have come across this amazing Les Miserables Flash Mob in Adelaide Market which led me down a rabbit hole on YouTube of some amazing Flash mobs

I love TT for the funny animal reels and rescue stories. My FYP is full of dog and horse rescue stories, don’t have either! I do agree that it can be a time waster though!

Please be aware that the majority of animal rescue stories and many "cute" animal reels are staged and involve horrendous cruelty.
By engaging with these you are funding animal abuse.
Google it, there's plenty of information available.

Many things are obviously staged

Angry neighbour at door
Airline passengers getting annoyed on a plane
Bad parking

Some of the acting is good. Some is atrocious

But staged animal rescues sounds awful
