So I finally got TikTok and now I understand: It's so addictive!

Had Facebook and X but never TikTok

It's so good. I never knew how creative people are. I love musicals and someone's just done One Day More singing all the roles.

I am suddenly getting awesome rugby tries and referee mic drops on my feed,
Comedians from around the world
Impressions of people going hiking
Americans complaining about Europe
People reacting to Americans complaining about Europe
Europeans telling me how to behave in Europe
More musicals
And some news as well

I can just see how addictive it is. I've shared some of the musical stuff with my family as they are Les Mis fans. But they haven't got TikTok so I've told them to get it.

If I had been a teenager when this was around, I can totally see how I could be addicted. DS however is not a TikTok user. He's more Instagram so I can't share videos with him

Unless someone knows the best way to share Tiktok videos to Instagram easily

Anyone else recently discovered TikTok?
Any good accounts to follow?

Doomscrolling on TikTok is no different than doomscrolling on MN. The general consensus on MN is to sneer at anyone who has TikTok, it’s one of those things that’s frowned upon like fabric softer and toilet brushes.

And Americans.

I however am quite the MN pariah as I happen to be fond of both TikTok and Americans. 😂

Give it a few months and hopefully you’ll grow out of it

How old are you? You sound like when my elderly mother finally discovered Facebook 😂

I don't think this is as positive as you send to think it is though and aside from the addiction issues platform smile tiktok also make it very very easy to spread false information and propaganda. Very very easy to get sucked into an information bubble where you only get fed certain information that fits a specific narrative.

PumpkinSpicedFattie · 11/10/2026 05:01

As someone who started a TikTok account last year and is now making a full time income from TikTok I love reading this!!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/10/2026 08:05

I hope the next generation see all this as completely cringeworthy and reject it outright. Could happen as each new generation see the ones before as slightly sad 🤞

The issue with it being informative is most of the information isn’t fact checked or peer reviewed in any way. It’s a misinformation vortex.

I disagree, I have health issues and I only follow NHS doctors or certified health professionals on SM. In fact if it wasn't for Tik Tok I wouldn't have stumbled across the two fantastic doctors who have helped me treat my chronic health issues which no NHS doctor has had any success with.

There are some wonderful people on that platform but like anything you have to do your research.

It shouldn't be dismissed because of a few accounts spreading misinformation, the whole internet is full of quacks etc, we just have to be careful and mindful, it's the world we live in so education is key. Tik tok and similar are not going anywhere so we have to learn how to use these platforms correctly like anything in life.

Are you 14 OP?

Don't all 14 yr olds love Les Mis, Rugby tries, Comedy from around the world and impressions?

I'm 70. I follow what you might call right wing people. The main stream media just aren't telling us the truth. I can't believe what's happening out there with illegal immigrants and I trust TikTok to tell me the truth that the MSM are ignoring.

Thank God for citizen journalists

It's not the scrolling that bothers me it's the sharing of " hilarious" videos.
DH (76) spends a bit of time on there watching nerdy science and maths stuff. Fine I have no problem with that. It's the urge to share / show me or our DC that winds me up.

I'd be like that too if any family member was into Tik Tok but thankfully nobody is.

I just think the 'funny videos" etc are so pointless. I've seen clips of people supposedly dancing - just why? I've got enough in my life without wasting time on this stuff.

waits for the tedious "I bet you're fun at parties" comments

It really knows me. Just opened it and it went straight to the actors from Les Mis doing the iconic strut in one day more

I like the Car Wash guy. Sings classic musical songs in the car wash whilst he's listening to the radio
4.1 million views of the Phantom of the Opera
My family can relate

"Singers" going viral when a lot of them can't even sing very well.
A friend showed me a girl singing on Tik Tok who she declared was pitch perfect. She was bloody awful and couldn't sing in tune if she tried.

cost my DD gcse grades due to hours wasted

Okidoke. So you're 70 but you mentioned your Dad's holiday photos in the family WhatsApp..........?🤔

susiedaisy1912 · 11/10/2026 17:22

I had to delete it in the end as I was scrolling for hours every day. I’m 56 years old and never thought I’d get addicted to it.

LilyBunch25 · 11/10/2026 17:22

Soooo many holes in the OPs posts.

I love it too. Such fun. My DH and I swap a lot of tiktoks and have a good laugh. I also work full time, sea swim, go to the gym three times a week, see friends, watch TV and read.

Jedi.

See British people tend to recognise sarcasm and British humour in a reply.
Americans don't really, although some do.

I was looking forward to you raising concerns about following the Far Right
