Feel rubbish after flu vaccine

EliJ90 · 07/10/2026 18:52

I’ve been having them for a few years and never even know I’ve had them!?

I had the flu vaccine on Monday afternoon, was nauseous Monday evening, diarrhea and fever yesterday and feel only slightly better today.

The leaflet lists all of these as ‘very common’ side effects but I’ve yet to meet anyone else needing to take time off work due to a vaccine.

anyone else struggling after this years vaccine?

I had mine Saturday morning and had to call in sick Monday. Not sure if connected as I had insomnia and then a sinus headache

mrsnjw · 07/10/2026 18:58

I got a really stiff neck this year.

Sherararara · 07/10/2026 18:59

This is why I never have them.

I had mine on Saturday morning. I’ve been fine, not even a sore arm. OH had his and is also fine, just a sore arm.

Ifeeltheneedtheneedforcoffee · 07/10/2026 19:10

Covid is also circulating with those symptoms so it could be that rather than the vaccine?
At least you are protected against flu

PurpleLovecats · 07/10/2026 19:12

I don’t have them anymore. They always made me feel so rubbish for several days!

MarilynMerlot · 07/10/2026 19:18

I’ve found them a breeze since they started doing the cell based ones tbh. Just a sore arm. There are a bunch of nasty viruses doing the rounds though.

fumingrightnow1 · 07/10/2026 19:23

I've been fine since mine but there is a lot going round currently

Roselilly36 · 07/10/2026 19:28

I spoke to a few people today, feeling really unwell since having flu vaccine.

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · 07/10/2026 19:30

Maybe you were coming down with something anyway?

TigerRag · 07/10/2026 20:00

I think this is why I've spent this evening with the start of a migraine. Had mine yesterday m I don't usually react to them

MadisonAvenue · 07/10/2026 20:33

I had both the flu and Covid jabs on Saturday. The pharmacist said that the flu vaccine seems to be quite brutal this year.

By Saturday evening I had a headache, felt cold, generally achy and tired. Both arms were sore too. Hard to say which I reacted to with having both together, I usually have a reaction like that to the Covid jab though.

Hohofortherobbers · 07/10/2026 20:34

I've felt under the weather since flu vaccine last Friday. Headache, low appetite, threw up the day after. Not sure I'll have it again

SemmaLina · 07/10/2026 20:38

One really bad reaction , aches , sore body , cold symptoms
A few times a sore arm
However , had flu once which knocked me out for 12 weeks
I know which I’d prefer

JacknDiane · 07/10/2026 20:40

I was in 2 minds about getting it this year and this thread is putting me tight off.

Same. I vaccinate generally but for me the low likelihood of me getting a really bad flu isn’t worth purposely feeling rubbish for a few days every year after a vaccine that’s typically only between 30%-60% effective anyway.

MissAmbrosia · 07/10/2026 20:47

I've had them for years with no ill effects (Covid jabs different matter) but had to call in sick after this year's one as I felt awful - in a new job too, so felt terrible about it.

Woollybee9 · 07/10/2026 20:55

My relative had both jabs same day and felt very rough too. Both arms hurt terribly.
It’s put me off.
Better just one jab at a time & take paracetamol straight after a jab?

gamerchick · 07/10/2026 20:59

Just a sore arm for me.

Better than proper flu. If an immune response is making you feel rubbish for a few days. The full blown thing probably will knock you on your arse for a bit.

Pinkbananaa · 07/10/2026 21:07

Vaccines have a small amount dilated flu virus which creates antibotics bodies to enable you to fight agaisnt the actual flu should you get it. Like any vaccine people can have symptoms. Some people show them others dont. Still better to have it. I took my dd to get it she was floored for 3 weeks last year due to the flu. Shes had a headche and a runny nose.

LoserWinner · 07/10/2026 21:21

I had mine last week. Apart from a slightly swollen arm for a few hours, I had no symptoms at all.

Calling · 07/10/2026 21:33

I had my flu vaccination on Friday, drank some Beaujolais on Friday and had a nasty hangover on Saturday and still feel under the weather... I could well have picked up a separate bug - hard to tell.
But the symptoms of flu are far worse, so I know which I prefer!
(The wine reference could be a red herring, I know, but it was not a cheap one.)

ShakyBake · 07/10/2026 21:38

Old neighbour of ours had a yearly one religiously for 15 years and do you know what happened last year? She caught a cold and sneezed so hard she pulled a stomach muscle and was in hospital for 3 days. More trouble then they are worth

Dandelionsandseapinks · 07/10/2026 21:53

I always react, i find it reassuring that my body is responding, ive had the flu once and felt like i was going to die (not to be dramatic) so ill take the week of feeling crap over a month or so

EliJ90 · 07/10/2026 22:09

It seems like many of us are struggling after this years :(
I was expecting a thread full of people who luckily weren’t feeling anything after their vaccine, but this years one seems to be knocking a lot of us!
Speedy recoveries to all!
