Cadbury's milk tray - what happened?

Pemba · Today 16:42

Was given one as a present. A nice thought but ........ Every flavour tastes exactly the same, no fruit flavour in the strawberry etc. Just generic vaguely chocolate-y shapes Filled with the same sweet paste. Well OK the nut ones were slightly crunchy.

It's a travesty of how they used to be - I won't buy them and will try to make sure nobody gives them to me again. Yuck! What a shame they've been ruined.

Remember those little bars of goodness that came out of the toy vending machine..😋😋

Slightly ashamed to admit that most of what we brought back from our Australian holiday was bars of Cadbury chocolate. It was so good! I won't buy it here.

Lindt and Kinder are now our chocolates of choice.

Honestly, it even used to smell lovely!
Anybody in Canada want to send me some??

hobbledyhoy · Today 20:33

Christ have they ruined them as well now?

They should never have been allowed anywhere near Cadbury - it’s treasonous what they’ve done.

SpottyAlpaca · Today 20:34

Milk Tray are what they’ve always been. Cheap, generic chocolates made for the mass market consumer, most of whom buy on price & don’t actually like real chocolate. They like sugar & vegetable fat which melts in the mouth.

Anyone remember the milk tray chocolate bar?

PrettyLittleRose · Today 20:44

@Makemydaypunk I really don't remember that Milk Tray Chocolate bar at all!

I was born early 1970s, were these out before that?

climbintheback · Today 21:09

50s/60s along with Fry’s cream and five boys!

Peonyhill · Today 21:13

All grim now. They taste like sickly sweet melty plastic. Not chocolatey at all. And it leaves a fatty film on the roof of my mouth.

Grim. Just grim 🤢🤮

They were available in the early 70’s I think, I remember my parents buying them!

Ah, a bit before my time then. Smile

Yes it's all for the sake of cheap manufacturing, and the new owners don't care I suppose. A shame Cadbury's allowed themselves to be bought out.

True that American chocolate seems to be rubbish, but at least the new Cadbury's stuff is still a bit nicer than Hersheys, which is the main American chocolate brand I think? A few years ago DD brought back some Hersheys from the USA and we ended up binning them. They have a hint of vomit flavour, disgusting!

Hershey's contains butyric acid to help the choc hold up over long haulage distances. Hence the vomity / dog chocolate taste.

My late Dad used to call this 'the map'. 😂

I’d rather treat myself to a small bar of Tony’s than a whole box of cadburys. Really tasty, fair trade and no palm oil.

Oh right. Do they think it's normal over there then? How can they enjoy it, I wonder?

They closed the Cadburys factory in my home town. That's what.

MilkLady02 · Today 22:02

I’m wary of buying M&S chocolate after receiving some “Swiss” chocolates from there. Couldn’t eat them, they were disgusting. Greasy and tasteless. Full of palm oil.
Celebrations all the way at Christmas now!

wavingfuriously · Today 22:09

It's the price of cocoa, massive price hike since 2020. cheap chocolate 🍫 has basically very low cocoa content

Quality street tubs are awful too. Wrapped in strange paper and they have changed the shape of the beautiful purple one to a boring small round chocolate about half the size. The toffee ones are fine but all the chocolate ones are gross

Nearly50omg · Today 22:13

They sold the company to the Americans and they changed the chocolate to American style chocolate which is vile

Wimaway · Today 22:14

@everyone
Let's get a list going of an alternative nice chocolate gift
M&S Florentines

JustSawJohnny · Today 22:17

Pemba · Today 17:50

I am going to try the M&S stuff people have recommended for Christmas, rather than Roses or Quality Street.

The M&S tins are much bigger too.

More expensive but more chocs than in 2-3 QS tubs AND in a lovely, deep metal tin like the ones years ago.

Had them last year and a definite improvement.

BarbaraUsher · Today 22:17

Cadburys is vile now. It is a British tragedy and I don’t know why it’s not making headline news
