Cadbury's milk tray - what happened?

Pemba · Today 16:42

Was given one as a present. A nice thought but ........ Every flavour tastes exactly the same, no fruit flavour in the strawberry etc. Just generic vaguely chocolate-y shapes Filled with the same sweet paste. Well OK the nut ones were slightly crunchy.

It's a travesty of how they used to be - I won't buy them and will try to make sure nobody gives them to me again. Yuck! What a shame they've been ruined.

They’re absolutely ganky now. Most big brand chocolate is now, sadly… I’d love to taste original Roses again. They were delicious!

SerendipityCat · Today 17:38

It’s just Cadbury’s, I’m afraid, and the ongoing enshittification of their entire product range. Oh, for the days before Mondelez International and palm oil fucked it all up…
I’m a convert to Aldi’s Moser Roth bars these days. It actually tastes like chocolate, which makes a pleasant change.

GameOfJones · Today 17:38

It is the same with Quality Street. I bought a big tin a few years ago for Christmas and they were honestly disgusting. Tasteless, waxy rubbish. It's such a shame as they used to be one of the treats we always looked forward to at Christmas.

I agree a lot of M&S chocolate is better and for bars of chocolate I really rate Hu which are at least made with proper ingredients.

I may be wrong, but I suspect the reason that Cadbury's chocolate has gone down the pan is because because the company is now owned by an American firm. And in my opinion, American chocolate is crap.

Yes it's all for the sake of cheap manufacturing, and the new owners don't care I suppose. A shame Cadbury's allowed themselves to be bought out.

True that American chocolate seems to be rubbish, but at least the new Cadbury's stuff is still a bit nicer than Hersheys, which is the main American chocolate brand I think? A few years ago DD brought back some Hersheys from the USA and we ended up binning them. They have a hint of vomit flavour, disgusting!

I am going to try the M&S stuff people have recommended for Christmas, rather than Roses or Quality Street.

I’ve stopped buying all Cadbury’s products. They’ve been awful since Kraft/Mondolez got their grubby hands on it.

Palm oil. Completely changed the taste.

Yep, I was just coming on to say this.

Milk Tray (and Black Magic) etc, have been very poor for years. They used to be a 'nice' box of chocolates but now the standard has dropped massively, possibly because we now have access to a range of more high end alternatives and also because they will have been kept down to a price point, necessitating a reduction in quality. Ie, if they cost £5 5, 10, 15 etc years ago, that was a lot of money, so equivalent to what good boxes of chocolates cost now - say £20/30 or more.

But they only cost a few quid, so are shit, but sadly not everyone realises that. All you can do is accept them for what they are or send them to the next raffle/tombola etc unopened.

Black Magic have been effing awful for years now.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · Today 18:21

Chocolate is crap now. I love a wispa gold but the chocolate tastes of nothing. Galaxy caramel is quite nice and generic supermarket dark chocolate

Sign this Change.org everyone! In Australia they get Palm Oil Free Cadburys.
Time to protest and make them give it to us as well.

Oh yes Dairy Milk are minging aren't they?! 😖

See also Dairy Box.

Also Quality Street. DH and I had a pack last week that someone gave us for Christmas and we didn't eat them as we had so much chocolate. They were dated 31 October so we decided to eat them. Well we ate about a third of them, and binned the rest. They were pretty basic. 😐

Also a tin of Roses we had for Christmas last year were a bit 'meh.' Even Thorntons don't taste right now. We just buy bars of Dairy Milk now. Boxes/tins of chocolates are shite. Well, except Celebrations. They're the best IMO.

Most chocolate is inedible nowerdays, including the M&S big mix which I bought last year after seeing the recommendation on here - It’s just sweet grainy paste wrapped in shit fake chocolate.

I bought a box of black magic as I remember not seeing them often growing up 70s kid.

Could almost feel the granular sugar in some of them.
Tastes of the past are best left there..in the past.

HappyViewer · Today 19:17

The hazelnut one is still nice.

BambinaCucina · Today 19:18

Mondelez happened.

schnubbins · Today 19:26

One word.....Mondelez .
American company that has ruined Cadburys ,Milka, Toblerone ,Maribou and a host of other well known products and used cheap poisonous ingredients to maximise profit for their shareholders ,
You couldn't credit that any company could take traditional and so loved products known for generations and turn them into complete shite .The mind boggles.

The Brazilian darkness was delicious, it used to be such a treat at Christmas opening a really deep tin (not a little plastic tub) of Quality Street or Roses, the chocolates were like a tin of jewels and seemed to last forever, now they are all the same shape wrapped in dull generic plastic wrappers, they look, feel and taste cheap and nasty.

M&S Big Mix are far superior to Cadbury's Roses or Quality Street. The variety is far better as well.

I’ve bought the Aldi version, I hope it’s as nice!!! Or almost 😂

Foodylicious · Today 19:45

I agree, they are just overly sweet, not that chocolatey, and a bit chalky too. All very samey.

Gingerteabaghag · Today 19:47

I bought my ds a big box of dairy milk for his birthday last week, oh my word how thoroughly disgusting they are. They all taste like over sweet candle wax, absolutely vile and I love chocolate but won’t be buying Cadbury’s anymore.

Hotafternoon · Today 19:50

All the boxes of chocolates are bloody horrible now, Cadbury chocolate is abysmal.

The chocolate is like cocoa flavoured shiny candle wax.😡

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · Today 19:52

Cadburys chocolate in general is SO disappointing now. Barely tastes like chocolate at all!

TootUnCarMoon · Today 20:07

Quality Street and Roses make my teeth hurt they’re so sugary.
Someone recently gave me Thorntons, they didn’t taste of anything. Such a shame as when I was young, Thorntons were the ultimate fancy chocolates.
