Would you vote to re-join the EU in another referendum?

Simple question. If there is another referendum to re-join the EU, will you be voting to re-join?

This isn't to have a go at anyone who supported Brexit, or who supported Remain, it's just a quick straw poll. Thank you. Smile

If anyone is wondering, (or cares!) I think I will vote to re-join. (I won't say at this point what I voted for last time...)

They wouldn't have us...

We fail the fiscal deficit rule... as do a number of members, but new entrants have to pass.
27 countries would have to vote to accept us... there would be a lot of concessions to bring that about that result.

The economic damage is done, companies won't revisit their re-organisations and investment decisions... it would take many decades to return to where we once were before the referendum.

Dandeloosha · 01/10/2026 21:05

God yes. In a heartbeat.

It was a paltry marginal majority. Wouldn’t pass a union ballot.

It was lunacy to honour it. Not least because the referendum was advisory and non-binding.

What..so we wouldnt leave despite Leave winning under the terms set by the politicians? Thats for the birds. Dont trust the politicians to do what's right, thats the lesson we should all be taking. The same crap will happen again.

God this is horrific. The same circular meaningless arguments coming out again and being rehashed. The thought of this is sickening. Divisive with people taking sides and hating family members because they ticked the other box. That's it then. As soon as he announces another referendum we can forget anything else being achieved in this country for years.

Frictionless trade is a good thing

HRTQueen · 01/10/2026 21:08

I voted yes but I do have concerns the isn’t what it was ten years ago there are significant changes

given that the most powerful country has moved to the far right and the second most powerful country is likely to follow this will impact how the EU operates Germany will not be upholding the EU financially has it has done to now so more will be expected from other countries

I still feel we are better in the EU and never ever should have had a referendum and would rather we build closer ties and have a referendum at a later date rather than sooner

Livingoverseas123 · 01/10/2026 21:15

No ody sensible can answer this question because nobody knows what terms would be offered.

dontcookwontcook · 01/10/2026 21:32

I find it so weird how some people are obsessed with being in the EU.

why would I say yes to how I’d vote if I don’t know what I’m voting for?

also why can’t we expect our politicians to actually implement laws and policies to benefit out country without having to saddle up and implement policies from the EU? complete lack of imagination and confidence in our own country.

dontcookwontcook · 01/10/2026 21:34

Also if we voted to rejoin
do we get another referendum in 10 years or is that it forever?

multiple referendums when we quit but only one forever if we vote in

says everything doesn’t it?

DeafLeppard · 01/10/2026 21:38

I also think it’s interesting that Iceland voted not to pursue membership very recently…

It is clear you are one of many people who do not understand what an advisory, non-binding referendum is (and should be).

I think the whole country knows all the arguments for and against Brexit and the subsequent arguments in Parliament about upholding the results of the referendum. Unfortunately.

Yes to rejoin - if only for safety in numbers with regards to combined defence protection

Theres no EU army though. Are you thinking of NATO which we are still a member of?

This thread is wild in terms of showing up massive lack of understandings about various things. Absolutely wild.

It should give massive cause for concern tbh.

Brexit was a success for Putin and his puppets. It was a multi-billion £ failure for the UK and the EU.😕

I'd rejoin in a heartbeat. Not least of all to give all young WC British people the same FOM as my kids have.

Democracy is honouring the result of the largest vote we ever had not having another go a few years later. We weren't told the result will be what it is but we can have another vote later and see if weve changed our mind and go back in again. We didnt have a trial separation.

Edited

Th vote has been honoured.

Democracy is being allowed to vote again when the evidence become clear. People are allowed to change their minds.

Clearly you don’t like that people are allowed to change their minds.

Bit vague. Unhelpful.

perhaps your superior knowledge should make more effort to show itself??

Rejoining the common market is economics.

Rejoining the EU wholesale is politics.

What do those who want to rejoin think it would add over rejoining the single market? With the latter you get all the trade benefits and freedom of movement.

Some do want all the unification of legal system, military etc that full membership entails. I don’t get the impression this part is overwhelmingly desired though.

We would get a vote rather then just be bound by other countries' decisions.

We are already part of the ECHR and the EU does not have a unified military etc.

Oh come on! With that attitude we'll never become a dictatorship!

The idea that I have not made effort is laughable. I have posted extensively about the issues on MN over the past couple of weeks whilst no one in the media has paid events the attention they merit.

It isn't my job. A simple search of what I've been saying on one of the emergency stockpiling threads would enlighten you.

I don't owe you the labour of spoon feeding. Get off your arse and find it yourself. I'm already posting what you are demanding.

I am deeply frustrated at the ostriches sticking heads in sand. We have major problems coming.

It depends on the terms and conditions that the EU were offering us.

What makes you all so sure EU would even want you back? Leave when it suits you and join again when it suits you. On your terms and conditions, not so sure.. 🙂

@SoBoredOfSelfDoubtHowToGetOut I think you are talking to the wrong person if you suggest that @RedToothBrush is vague and unhelpful in any way. Laughable really.

TBF Macron and the Spanish Prime Minister have both been very positive.

But ultimately that's just two leaders both of whom are in somewhat trouble ATM and could do with another left leaning government in the EU.
